What actually happens if you try to hit someone with a spear while on the ground?

I have got three questions:

1) can you do a backhand slash (to the left of your horse)? Somehow I have got the feeling that wolves always attack from the left... maybe because I dismount that way?
2) Do spears train a skill? I so what skill? 1handed is logical, because 1handed is the only weapon style allowed at the moment (not to mention im 1handed ) but it would give 2handed guys an oppertunity to try this mod too.
3) Where is this going to be released? I recommend the Skyrimnexus because you can automatically see new files (if any pics are uploaded)

My warrior guy I created for this mod is almost ready for this mod! He has a horse and skill enough at least XD.

1. Yes you can, of course... I haven't tried to fight a wolf thou, but wolves are short, you might having trouble hitting them. Using long spears work thou (tested on a chicken :P)

2. Spears DO train skill, 2-handed skill (for now), I haven't had time to look into how to make separate/new skill yet

3. It will be available on Nexus, ofcourse. I'm kinda hesitant to upload this onto steam workshop due to certain .... commotion.
I just found some nasty bug that, if you got knocked out of the horse with weap drawn, or the horse got killed while you are holding weap, you won't be able to do normal attack. That bug was fixed as of last night, but I have to postpone to beta until tomorrow. So the public release will just around the corner ;)

4. If you were to attack with spear whilst not mounted, you will just swing it like 2-handed weapons. I tried not to interfere too much with other unnecessary stuff, so this mod might compatible with most mod out there

Dude just saw this today... had to create an account just to follow it. This feature was an absolute necessity for the game and I am really glad you thought of it and even better went through all this time and effort to realize it. Hope I can be able to try it out soon. Please please pleas post a release date

Thank you, check back next week, the public beta will be available ;)

when you get bows working maybe a good idea would be to circle the enemy with the horse while you are still looking at them and fireing? or maybe if bows are to strong on horse maybe you could put crossbows into the game as the ranged weapon on horse back requireing you to be closer to the enemy and slower reload that should balance it :D and maybe make it easyer to fire?

Don't know if you saw it already or not, but bethesda is making their own version of mounted combat in an official update.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it'l be missing a lot of the features you intended to bring.

I hope you continue your work! Hopefully Bethesda will make things easier for you, once this patch is completely released.

To be honest, feel a little bit of both. :(

This should have come sooner, so I won't have to spent so much time digging bits and bits from behavior files, figuring how to make new animation & add them to the game ...

The good thing is thou, they have added awesome feature like mounted archery, which I'm having a big headache on. More importantly, good foundation to mod/improve on.
Now just need to get pass the bad feeling :P

I say you take that spear and make them weapons before Bethesda does.

I gathered that melee and ranged weapons are usable... in what manner? 1H? 2H? Magic? Archery? Shouts?

Obviously spears/lances aren't part of it... Can you go baddie bowling with your horse? Can you make your horse pitch in and attack too? If not, then you could still find a way to put those in.

Ah, the latest skyrim 1.6 patch is incorporating this feature; will have to see how it turns up.

You have my sympathies. All that work, problem solving, only for Bethesda to say: "Oh btw, we are releasing Mounted Combat LOLOL!"

I am sure this mod will build on and make Bethesda's vanilla horse combat even better !
rongphale: you have learned so much on the way , you will easily crank this baby to 11!

Don't get discouraged, all this knowledge you gathered to make things work will still be useful to design an Improved Horse Combat mod, since I'm sure Bethesda is not taking this ahead and turning it into something like a main feature. There is lots to improve upon, from horse collision to detailed animations, mounted NPCs, spear fighting, etc. It may actually give you more tools to get over some of the previous limitations.

Bethesda trolled you! lol But nvm, you still done a great job by yourself, even thought you worked alone and for free, unlike their devs. You've gained lots of experience and leveled up your skills if nothing else. :D

Yeah Bethesda pulling the rug from under your feet. However, I get the feeling that vanilla mounted combat will not be ideal (havent tried it, but I already heard something about auto targeting and no 1st person view for mounted archery?). So I think your mod will still be needed to make it something special and hopefully this will make the job a bit easier for you

lol omg as soon as i read that they added mounted combat I instantly thought of how pissed you must be.

But hay in the long run you have gained lots of experience and can now use those skill in other areas of modding. Also you could look into their animations for their mounted combat and add in spears, lances and halberds!

Well you could improve upon it, like adding magical combat, harvest flora while mounted, activate doors while mounted, make jousting poles, and make NPCs have mounted combat. Imagine a gang of badass orcs thugs mounted on horses chasing you down like a dog in the tundra when you are low level :)

Don't be discouraged my friend. Look at it this way, they have created a foundation for you, now all you need to do is make it better.

If you can make it first person... you have all my support! :3

The forced third person perspective on horses is so annoying, I refuse to use them. Even if mounted combat is included. My character is a mean shot with the bow and even if mounted enemies are added to the game in a DLC they will be no match. But if mounted first-person combat is ever possible... that would be awesome!

This!

From what i have read the default aiming with bows is off (not sure if the bow ini tweak fixes this), you can only swing low so fighting a mounted npc currently would mean you would be attacking their horse instead of them, add in magic (i think the master level spells that require you to stay stationary should be left out though), and add in guards mounted patrolling , add in the occasional mounted bandits, also make the horse be able to attack too! it seems they do nothing as far as combat goes. There is still much you could do to add to this feature. They have given you a base to start with, now make into something that every pc owner will have in their load order!
