Mr. House and the Big Empty

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 3:29 am

The Big Empty is said to be a hub of scientific progress. Now I just today realized something Elijah says at the end of Dead Money.

Near the end of Dead Money, Elijah states he has been to the Big Empty. There, he found hologram technology among other scientific marvels. He also explicitly states there were Securitrons there. We have never in a Fallout game seen Securitrons that were not direct property of Mr. House. I don't think he even created them for commercial reasons. There are no billboards and poster advertisemants for them, and they are never under ownership of civilians or groups like the BoS or the Enclave. Protectrons, Mr Handies/Gutsies, Robobrains and even Sentry Bots are under ownership of several people. Securitrons are not, ever. There's a possibility Mr. House created the Securitrons for himself only. If so, there being Securitrons at the Big Empty means House had/has a stake in it. And if that's the case, he may even have created the entire facility.

Also, remember the big picture of Mr. House in the House Resort at Camp Golf? He is shown standing before (presumably) a giant robot. Only his feet/legs are shown, and they are about the same size of Liberty Prime's. Not to mention Mr. House's company RobCo Industries built Liberty Prime in a joint venture with General Atomics International. He could've used similar technology building the robot partly shown on the Camp Golf picture. If House had a major stake in the Big Empty facility, we can't rule out the possibility of this robot being present there.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I'm curious about the full extent of Mr. House's empire, and I'm even more excited about the Big Empty if Mr. House is one of the technological minds behind it.

I don't think that he mentioned Securitrons at all.

Besides the BoS weren't around before the war and the Enclave was the most powerful organisation in America; if something was going on at the Big Empty then they would find out, hell they had some of the finest - and amoral - scientific minds on thier side so they would probably have been doing the research.

Yes that's what I thought the first time I completed Dead Money. I ended my second DM playthrough today, and he talked about it during the conversation inside the Sierra Madre's Vault. He doesn't go into detail, he briefly mentions it. The devs put it in on purpose nonetheless.

Also: I'm not sure the BoS and the Enclave would have been able to get inside the facility. Elijah mentioned it's extremely dangerous and he almost didn't make it out alive. We only know about Elijah, Christine and presumably Ulysses gaining access to the Big Empty, and they're all pretty tough survivalists. I'm not sure the Brotherhood or the Enclave would risk losing a lot of men getting into a facility with unknown content.

Can you get the quote mentioning securitrons? I played through it recently exhausting all dialouge in the Vault and I can't remember him mentioning them.

Still wondering if the Big Empty is going to be the Big MT Facility, or Tibbet's Prison.

I remember him mentioning the Securitrons too. Never really thought about it though, good point though.. Ooh, imagine being able to bring a nice big giant robot with you when you go and crush the legion on the dam... Damn! lol

I wrote it out for you!

*Drum roll*

Elijah - You. You're in the vault... finally. After all this time. The Sierra Madre... mine. Don't move, don't go into the vault. And don't touch anything else... there may be more traps down there... another security system.

Courier - You've got a lot to answer for.

Elijah - Do I? For what? Your greed? Curiosity? You came here on your own, no one held a gun to your head. I've seen your Pip-Boy archives, your map markers and notes, you picked up the Sierra Madre's signal just as I did. You couldn't resist. So if you feel I have a lot to answer for... no, the blame isn't on my shoulders. Might as well have put the collar on yourself.

Courier - Before this goes any farther, I had questions.

Elijah - Curious? You must be. We have time, now that you've done your work. And our interactions have been too one-sided, even for my tastes.

Courier - Where did you get the collars?

Elijah - The collars. They're Pre-War tech, I suspect this great land had... compliance issues before the war. It's one of a series on models. The one on your neck? Special, easier to make adjustments. Unreliable in other ways, notably radio interference.

Courier - If they're Pre-War tech, where did you get them?

Elijah - A place far from here, called the Big Empty. Almost didn't make it out. Were two others there... a woman. And a man, a courier. The woman was familiar... the other... I don't know what happened to him.

Courier - I've never heard of the place you're talking about.

Elijah - Big Empty's a treasure box, a scientific graveyard of Old World misery. Like the Sierra Madre... there's treasures there, sleeping. Some, awake. The Holorifle, the Saturnite alloy... the hologram technology, hibernation chambers, Securitrons, the collars... Even the suits attached to those things stalking the Villa... that's only the surface of what's there. Right now, the Sierra Madre is what I want.

I'm also curious about the hibernation chambers actually. Can't wait for this DLC.

Does sound like an awesome DLC. I wonder what the suits are about. The ones the things in Dead Money wear.

As for theTopic. I am going with Mr.House's crazy brother.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, the big empty seems (to me) to be likely to be Mr House's research and development lab. He obviously didn't create all of his 'toys' in the basemant of the Lucky 38 lol.
Could also be where he 'kept' his brother I guess? Oh I HOPE he has that big robot you see him stood infront of at Camp Golf there too.. Maybe guarding his mental brother? *Drools*

Ahh, thanks for the quote man. Very interesting. I'm sort of hoping that it'll be a prison. Hibernation chambers for the worst scum to be condemned sounds, sort of plausible. Securitrons would be perfect for a prison, and the holograms could work for anything really. But the Hazmat suits, that's where it wouldn't make sense. Can't imagine why they'd need them in a jail. Well, whatever the place is, I can't wait to see it.

Why would he guard his brother? Anthony, his older half brother, robbed Robert of his inheritance, and said Robert was 'some johnny come lately with a fancy college degree'. So Robert Passive agressively wiped out HH Tools in the stock market, likely purchasing it and wiping Anthony out as owner of the family empire. I doubt Robert would want to spit into Anthonys direction, let alone put him in a place like The Big Empty.

I have absolutely no idea tbh. People have been talking about the 'other house' being there and as the securitrons point to house (The hibernation chambers may or not because 'House' is in a life support unit, not a hibernation chamber) I was simply trying to link the two things together?

Like the old saying goes, "Blood is thicker than water." Or pehaps he just wanted to rub his brothers nose in it? Who knows..

Well, we have to wonder where Anthony went, because the HH Tool Factory building is booby trapped, none of the traps are set off, yet Anthony is nowhere to be found. Either this is a Dev oversight, or something more inticate is in store.

Anywho, don't trust in euphanisms. Because I could give a damn about my family IRL.

I hope having the Platinum Chip in your inventory will lead to some interesting discoveries for whichever DLC the Big Empty ends up in.

Yeah, at first I figured he had killed himself after reading the terminals. there are no skeletons in there though, or at least none that I can recall. Certainly not in his office anyway. HH tools did make the securitrons though, you can see this on closer inspection of them. 'Not at home' always calls them 'his' securitrons.. Maybe he wasn't the original designer or Anthony has some kind of programmers back door into HH products? Who knows..

Guys, House's brother died before the war I think, the terminals could be wrong though because if I remember right the dates jump everywhere.

I would have figured a RobCo factory was where he built and developed his stuff, or maybe one of the companies he bought out; the guy was working with the Enclave so anything is possible.

Apparently, and this is only speculation, Anthony House is running the Big empty. Maybe he stole some of Roberts creations, I dunno.
