How did you resolve this question for yourself?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:25 pm

This has been bothering me for quite some time.
I personally believe in personal development for the sake of progress of humanity as a whole(I think you could call me a Utilitarianist). Technological and scientific progress seems like the best(and logical) way to go.
It just makes sense to me; If it's not me who's going to enjoy the things humanity will create in the future, it will be my children(I'll probably have kids), and I want the best for them(and that thought makes me feel good).

I hope the poll options are ok for you folks

Oh and if you've figured it all out, don't be shy, share it with other people in your post. Lol.

In my opinion there is no inherent meaning to life or the universe, rather life has the meaning we put in to it.

My religion. That's all I'll say; I don't want to get into a discussion about it.

There is no objective meaning to life. We can add our own subjective reasons for getting up in the morning and for allowing the progression of our own individual lives, but there is no reason for anything or anyone, as a whole, to exist.

Exactly my thoughts. In grand scheme of things i am utterly meaningless, but i am, and i am going to make the most of while i do.

Option 6 is for me. Life has no meaning, but it doesn't mean life is worthless or that we shouldn't make the best of it.

But of course, this doesn't mean that making the best of it is an objective or a means of making your life have a meaning. It's just to satisfy ourselves as human beings and is a part of our natural behavior to strive for happiness, success, and reproduction.

I can't possibly answer the question because the answer is too complicated to describe.

I guess I sorta turn the question around, sorta kinda? Life has no meaning, but I have reasons for living. The moment I was born, I had no reasons for existing to myself. Only other people wanted me to exist. Now that I'm older, I realize I enjoy existing. Not just to be alive, but because of what I do, see, learn, feel etc. etc.

My reason for life is simply because I want to exist.

Even if life has no meaning, we can give it meaning. There's your answer.

I kind of live in the moment so I don't really think about it anymore, nor do I care. Mostly I wonder what death and the afterlife is like, probably a little bit too much since I've found myself hoping I find out sooner rather than later... :/

EDIT: By the way, I'm fine with it being 42.

By meaning I'm reffering to purpose. What is the purpose of life? What are you supposed to accomplish in your life? How should you live it and why?
