I did the >2 gig memory address tweak and raised the ugrid value from 5 to 9 in the ini file. Nice difference in visuals but my FPS tanked. Went from I think in the high 70's in the first shot to around 40~ish in the next. After the 2 comparison pics are a few misc shots taken with the tweaked ini.

That draw distance! :3 Why oh why is this not on ultra settings?! Ultra is supposed to be ULTRA!

If you go to his site, he just updated with all the details of how he gets those shots. You need to make a lot of changes for Skyrim to look like the promo material.
No. You don't.

eheh, guys, you might not have heard of this, but there's a graphical option called ultra, and did you know you can also change the resolution? :)

I'm running on ultra and the screenshots posted in the first post look exactly like my game.

Pics are just ultra settings with higher resolution and more distance LOD...Pretty to the eye, but hardly mindblowing. If you can keep that lvl of detail while fighting upclose then maybe you'd have a point.

People just need to accept that skyrim is not big on eye candy but art direction.

This the one that baffles me...that there is no default setting that enables the draw distance like this. Heck if it's a performance issue, make a new setting for Super Duper Ultra or something. The game looks 10x better when you load more uGrids and when you make trees/grass draw distance greater. Those are two of the biggest tweaks you can do to make Skyrim better looking.

Now if the shadow engine didn't svck so bad....

I was very unhappy with the shadows until I bumped the iBlurDeferredShadowMask to 8. Now I think the shadows are awesome.

you can get this game looking better than in those pics, but it doesnt show in screenshots, its really annoying me actually.

http://www.shacknews.com/file/29507/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-fxaa-post-process-injector-12
and set it to use anti aliasing, bloom and pre sharpening. that will sharpen up the textures to look a generation newer than what we had. it will also improve the entire image quality to look more natural.

go do it, seriously, youll be so impressed. the game really looks beautiful now, and im a tough critic.

Mine is at 8 too, though I am not quite sure what it does. Overall I can ignore shadows..but I wish the game had actually real time, pretty shadows, without having to mess with 100 settings to try to get the right balance.

Also, FYI, to someone who posted about shots not showing FXAA Injector settings: You have to use FRAPS or similar outside program to capture the effects. Steam won't capture them.

No you don't. You change a couple of settings in the ini that most people have already done. I just got done reading his "Madness in the Method" post and there are like 5 settings that effect the game that he uses.

The secret to making Skyrim look like those screenshots is that there is no secret. It's all a bunch of time delay, right place, right time, free camera tricks that make for good screenshots, but it's nothing special about his ini or tweaks. In fact he could tweak the game even more and make it look that much better.

The person who runs that site is obviously very talented, and his screenshots prove it, but like I said on page one...this is how the game looks.

Dammit! I discovered my Skyrim had been only using one of my pair of GTX 480s. I had excellent pictures on one GPU, but only around 50fps. So I updated to the latest nVidia beta driver (285.79) having the Skyrim profile. Ever since, I've been having problems.

Mid-distance to far-distance is badly blurred and in some cells I have this disturbing intermittent banding and audio static/buzzes. FPS was much better though.

I've stopped playing Skyrim until I figure out a fix. I may try one GPU again to see if that is the problem. I avoid beta drivers as a rule and it looks like this one stinks.
