How has Skyrim improved your life?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:19 am

Welcome to the internet I guess. A tip or two if I may? People stop reading about right where I cut it unless you are writing something extremely captivating. And don't apologise so much for having an opinion. You're entitled to one. And don't ever take anything you read on the internet serious. People will say anything when nobody knows or cares who they are. In this case most people who has no problems and like Skyrim are busy playing it. The ones with broken games and broken hearts are the ones you'll find here most days. They know that it's useless to complain but it makes them feel better to know they're not alone in their misery. Let them be.

And Contact was one of my favourite movies too but I'm old enough for it to be so. You're not. Get out more.

Cheers man, yeah, probably taking things too serious.
Anyways, getting out for a darn good ride I reckon.
And thanks for the tip about the boring bit - much appreciated!

Games don't improve life, they take it away...time spent in a game world is time wasted in the real world. I play at the end of the night to forget about the troubles of the day and the hardships tomorrow brings...if your young and single you will regret wasting life in a game when your older as you keep yourself distracted from the real "main quest " of life

Some of you are taking this WAY too seriously. Next time I'll remember the winking smiley.

I should start another thread, "How has Skyrim ruined your life?" What's funny is that the same people who are giving us "advice" on keeping a sense of perspective towards a video game would post nearly the same things in that thread.

You know, the OP was trying to be positive, guys. What it comes down to, for a lot of people who *do* say the game has improved their life, is that they see video games as an art medium, not a hobby or tiime killer. Incidentally, if you think video games are a waste (like model rockets or amateur racing or anything that doesn't involve curing a major disease) ...go get a different hobby. Then get on a forum about that hobby, and listen to pretentious snobs complain about how something you enjoy is "a waste of time," and they have a *real* life (whatever that means). It's frustrating, is it not?

I think the question essentially boils down to this: Are video games an art medium, and if so do they improve your quality of life? Does art improve your quality of life?

My answer to those questions is yes. Games are a form of art. Yes, art improves my life. Yes, a game I particularly enjoy enhances my life, just like a thought-provoking photograph or a beautiful painting. If your answers differ, more power to you. Just don't pee on the boots of everyone you disagree with.

Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time." - Bertrand Russell

I'm not sure that Skyrim has improved my life other than making me appreciate nice scenery, but that's more due to graphics in games being realized better in general.

It certainly has! Looking at the male characters physique in Skyrim made me slightly jealous and gave me an exercise motivation boost, now I can bench press 302 lbs 8 reps 4 stints and biceps curl 77lbs dumbbells 8 reps 4 stints; my neck is pretty much gone too.
Thats significantly more than I used to do pre-Sykrim. Playing excellent computer games can improve your health and destroy your exercise plateaus!

People move out of my way when I yell 'Fus-Ro-Dah!'
Although, they may be doing that because they think I'm insane. All well, they move and thats what matters.

For me my life is often stressful and for the longest Id been searching for the perfect chill game (all I usually buy were fps and GOW3 type games). I tried plenty such as FLOW, rockband, and puzzle games but Id get bored which doesn help me chill. Then I got skyrim and now if i get stressed and cant leave my house I go adventuring, find and read the lore books I collect(great stories such as the "cannibal woodelves"), or practice alchemy. So I can honestly say Skyrim has improved my health (stress isnt healthy).
