How has Skyrim improved your life?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:37 am

For those wanting more positive topics....

Playing Skyrim has had several positive effects on my life. First of all, I no longer go to a certain type of website that was leaving me feeling frustrated and unhappy. I refer, of course, to political blogs. Now I'm too busy playing Skyrim and looking for cool Skyrim stuff online.

Another improvement is that it has gotten me involved in an online community again after about 5 years of nearly complete withdrawal from online life. I didn't even post on those stupid blogs. I was starting to feel a bit isolated. I just wish y'all would slow down a bit. I can barely keep up with this forum!

Finally, it makes me happy that I have lived long enough (I started with Pong) to play a game like this. I didn't know it was going to be the game I'd been waiting for. I didn't even know I was waiting for it.

How has Skyrim improved your life?

Well, whenever I get upset now, rather than bluntly cursing someone down and bolstering myself for there rebuttle and/or retaliation, I just yell dragon shouts and say mean things in dragon language. Big nerd, perhaps, personal victory, ofcourse.

Also, it's inspired me to draw once more on a more down to earth scale.

Skyrim really changed my RL life. It gave me such great appreriation for the knees that I have. I often think to myself when I see people in wheelchair if they were ever gotten an arrow to the knee, which explains why they're depending on a wheelchair to get around.

I hope to hell or to god that I never get an arrow to the knee. Otherwise I would have to apply for guard duty.

Who wants to help me to invest in a special made knee protection gear to help prevent from getting an arrow to the knee? I just need some investors to help invest in the incoming product.

I got involved in this community. Witch for the most part is a good thing. I got hundreds of hours of entertainment. My wife enjoys the game, and we talk about it often, witch is nice.

Only real side effect is me staying up super late. I'v had to open my Parlor late a few times because I can't apply tattoo's while I'm drowsy... Worth it though.

Skyrim has impoverished me. One moment, I'm rich and powerful. A demigod who has become both the new Sheogorath and Duke of rebuilt Kvatch. Then I go to bed one evening in my gigantic magical fortress of Frostcrag (reborn) Spire and wake up in a wagon poor, powerless and on my way to be executed in the far north! When I find out who's behind this, someone is going to pay!

Forsworn armor has improved my six-life... heheharghhh... :hubbahubba:

Besides that... Hmm - I guess I have saved some money from just staying home and play.

It has improved my life in that every time my brother calls me a name, I say that played out "but then I took an arrow in the knee" joke that ticks him off.

This.

It's a game people. If any game effects your real life, go join some video game anonymous group. I mean this as advice only. I am deeply concerned for others who think video games can do such things on their own.

Well, sometimes a game can be used to explain factual concepts. Take "The Gungan Frontier" for instance. It teaches ecology.

I joined a (fairly) nice new forum, and I started writing stories again for the first time in years. I also got my girlfriend into TES, finally. Yes, dear. I always win.

Edit'd for dyslexia.

That might be a little harsh, but kinda understand what you're saying. It is a game. I mean if you walk around 24/7 as the Dragonborn in real life and start picking flowers from peoples properties on the way to work, you may have slight issues. I don't think any game has really change my life, but they've had an impact. Which I guess is saying the same thing. And saying that...

My favourite games in the past have been SimCity 2000 and Age of Mythology. Those games taught me more about economics in a far more exciting way than what school ever did. Sim City 2000 was great because of the depth of it (I thought it was deep back then, even now it's pretty cool). I learnt about taxes, difference between light and heavy industry (knew it before then, but the game makes it pretty obvious) and a heap of other things.

Age of Mythology taught me about... mythology. And how to multitask a little bit better. Instead of just controlling one character, I had to manage a whole bunch of units and anolyze which units had strength's/weaknesses and how to fight other units. And also to build a sustaining economy considering income/expenditure (more or less the same as SimCity). Mythology is a pretty big one because how the game presented mythology was interesting. I learnt about characters I'd later see in movies and actually know what they were about. I'd also read up on the characters from history.

Getting to the point of the thread...

Skyrim - hasn't really changed my life heaps or improved it massively, what it has done though is create a black hole for time (as for most people that play the game!). I'm on my third play through (first was main quest complete, second was the same, but as quick as I could do it, which wasn't that quick) and I'm only about 13 hours in (on this play through). Not playing as much as I used to a couple weeks ago!

How it's improved my life is actually a pretty odd one, bit similiar to another post above about. I was getting into writing about a year ago, and the game has helped me get back into it. The story lines in the game aren't that interesting in some regards (and not great either), but it's still helped. The graphics have also impressed me with playing around with painting (digital) again.

Just saw this.
I'm guessing different people write in different ways, but establishing a world is pretty handy. Has to be a coherent story. I'm coming up with ideas daily, some are good, some are bad, some ideas cause other ideas to be affected and then it ends up like a ripple. Not to derail the thread, but go for it (novel writing)! I'm a software developer by trade, but writing is so much more creative.

Anyways, just thought I'd post that, sorry for taking the thread in another direction!

Skyrim gave me various DLC ideas for Skyrim such as Cyclops creatures and various other legendary mythological creatures to be featured in the game!
