How we increase SPECIAL in New Vegas

Spoiler
Just outside the Crimson Caravan camp, you can find the New Vegas Medical Clinic, which is run by Doctor Usanagi. She has some high-tech equipment there, and so she's able to upgrade your stats with implants (which are a bit more plausible than the Fallout 3 bobbleheads). There's an implant for each of the main statistics, even for Luck (called Probability Calculator). Of course, the implants aren't cheap. Other implants include sub-dermal armor and one that makes your health regenerate.

I like this much better than the bobblehead bonus. It's more akin to the way you increase SPECIAL in Fallout 1.

If it's only available once per stat like the bit in the San Francisco BoS Bunker in Fallout 2 then I wouldn't mind it, if it's gettable multiple times per stat I think that would be a bit overpowered, although the Resistance/Armouring ones did have a couple of levels in Fallout 2.

I doubt you can increase it multiple times. More than one implant of each wouldn't make a ton of sense.

Interesting...Though I'm disappointed the treasure hunt aspect of finding those stat increases has been replaced with a key NPC, I do like their logic and implementation.

Although if they do it the same way as it was done in Fallout 2, you will first need to find something specific to each stat so you would be able to increase it.

Sounds swell. I do hope the "not cheap" is exactly that and not a buzzword trying to justify a seemingly large value that in reality turns out as not so big of a deal afterall, though knowing Ausir wrote that makes me more confident.

Another interesting part of the review was that armors don't have both DR and DT but only one or the other.

Yeah. 50 or 100K should do nicely.

I like this. Though, I hope it's a reward for doing something or you have to pay a very large some of money, and you can only use it once.

And everything else mentioned by Ausir is good, too. It seems that the game world seems a lot more fleshed out with factions and characters than FO3 did.

According to that, you can probably do it once per stat, replacing the function of the Bobbleheads from FO3.

You will still be able to treasure hunt, there are those snow globes we can find (which won't give us permanent stat/skill increases this time around)

Stamps!
And they should be really really small stamps so that they are extremely easy to miss when scavenging around. :D

By the next game they're gonna be "The Master's Of The Universe, Khans".

Oh and I love the idea.
Have nothing against raising SPECIAL as long as it doesn't come cheap.
And not 50K expensive but 20K or even 15K would be enough and it would still be hella expensive.

If money is half as easy to come buy in F:NV as it is in F3 then it'll be good if they price is in the medium 10K's

Sporks

I just hope the implant procedures actually take a reasonable amount of time to complete.

Dont like it. Sounds like a multiple time thing.

Bobbleheads in Fallout 3 was a multiple time thing. You find them all and you've upped every stat with 1 and every skill with 10. Also, it didn't cost you a nickle when you found them. Sure you have to find them first, but not hard when you have the wiki by your side.
In FNV we will probably pay 10,000-20,000 caps for one implant that will raise a stat with 1. Doesn't that seem a little more balanced? And most likely you can't get it twice.

There's a limited number of upgrades you can do. I don't know if you can get the same upgrade more than once, but you will have to pick and choose what you want.

Cybernetic implants would work fine. It would be nice if Intense Training came back too though. If they only gave it 5 levels, then it wouldn't be nearly as complained about. I'm glad no one's arguing about "god builds" anymore.

Actually its a one time thing for each stat. You did not understand what I meant.

What I mean is that it sounds like a "upgrade each stat multiple times" type deal.

Intense Training needs to be cut. If the Gifted trait is in the game then Intense training is redundant. That's 14 more points with Gifted + implants.

I think not. I think it's just one implant per stat.
