How Often Are You Overencumbered: Do You Loot Everything?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:12 am

I only loot things that has a value of 1:10, or for every one weight point, it has a value of ten.

Example:
Iron dagger: 2 weight, 10 gold. I leave it.
Fur Bracers: 1 weight 10 gold. I take it and sell it later.

I'm a bit of a packrat. While I don't necesarily take everything that isn't nailed down, I do take most things. So I get over-encumbered a lot. When I do, I either drop something to get myself moving, or I walk back to my horse and ride to civilization to unload it all.

I used to pick up items that are worth 50 gold per 1 weight, then it became 100 g/w, then 500, then 1000, now it's just gems and potions.

I Load it all on Lydia, but only weapons and I have decided to keep all exotic swords and axes for my home not for sale.

I limit what I pick now and have imposed a rule that I never leave one of the major cities carrying more than what I consider essential (which varies between 115 and 130). Whatever I can't sell I give away or dump.

No. I travel light, take what I need: dog meat, horse meat, salt pile, ebony dagger, sleeping tree sap, and something dark to blend into the shadows.

In late game, the only things I loot are gems, jewlery, scrolls, and gold. Because they weigh almost nothing and I can contiue to adventure without worrying about making stops.

Genreally speaking 1-2 dungeons and me and the companion are at the limit. however now since all my characters have atleast 10K gold I'm limited myself to just gold, arrows, and w/v ratio's of atleast 10-20.

I really don't loot much. Money is too easy to come by for me to feel the need to take every last dagger and helmet I see. I think I've only been over-encumbered twice since I started playing.

Up until about lvl 25 I picked up every thing that had any value, and then would drop stuff as I came across more valuable stuff. Now that I'm lvl 36 with armor and weapons that i'm sure will take me very far in the game, and ~30k I am starting to take only the stuff that I can't or don't feel like making. Now that currency has little to no value I'm able to quest and dungeon plunder for hours on end with out hitting a town. Besides when your able to carry 400lbs worth of crap you'll find yourself un able to get rid of it because you've wiped out a towns money supply. Personally I'm not spending more time making money than adventuring, I've got a RL job for that.

whenever i get encumbered i get rid off all the items with a low value that are high in weight. eg i use the 1 weight to 10 value ratio this makes me able to carry more of my junk i that to sell with better profits.

Early game I took most of it for the cash, later on just the best stuff and to be fair, if you have a load of stuff you have to travel all over to sell it all which gets tiresome so I don't bother.

I can always craft potions worth over 1000 gold if I needed cash but with over 100k I can't see that being an issue.

Ive got to the point where I mainly just loot gold, and enchanted stuff, gems.. Dragon scales and bones ofc. although atm I have enough of even those.
The Dragon bones will do it every time.
I have a few chests of the stuff in different houses. Im looking forward to CK so I can sort my junk out into different chests in my house.
I think Im sitting around 200k gold anyways, so its no longer abiout the loot for me.

Always! And my house containers are overflowing with not only loot, but also all manner of junk. When I play Elder Scrolls I turn into a hoarder. If it isn't nailed down I have to pick it up. My fiance is always asking me, "Are you stealing things again?" Because I do just as much looting in peoples' houses as I do in dungeons. Most of this stuff ends up in my house, only a small portion of it gets sold or sees any use. So why do I do it? Fun? I enjoy having so much stuff, more than anyone, I won't ever need anything... Well, except time... I waste a lot of time hauling all that stuff. Soon the Creation Kit will be out. I anticipate someone making a Bag of Holding mod, or if not I'll figure out the scripting to do it myself.

BTW, I don't think its cheating. Not for me. It won't earn me anymore extra cash than I already do. I'll just get more play time  , rather than tedius loot hauling time. :yuck:

Never I got tired of having to go back and forth between places and to sell so I set my carryweight to 50000. Shortly after, I realized I never needed to pick up anything however since I had more gold than I could or needed to spend and my crafted loot was better than anything I would ever find.

Early in the game, I pic up everything that isn't nailed down, so I get overencombered and have to sort through it all. Now after I get my first house, usually breezehome, I get a little bit more picky and I run "home" more often. Books, ingredients, dragon bones/scales are never tos'd, but I have dropped a higher value item just to keep a book, because I didn't have it.

I tend to sell by weight first, that way when the vendor runs outa money, I'm not leaveing with as much weight. I have bowls full of gem's in my Markarth House, they glisten soooo pretty in the candle light...

The follower dialogue is great when you ask them to carry stuff.

My Favorite is Marcurio. "I'm an apprentive Wizard, not a pack mule,... Oh, never mind....."

only problem whe nyou put crap in a box and tell them to pick it up (outside the UI companions have unlimited carrying capacity) is that everythgin they pick up that way is now marked stolen.

Of course, the worst situation is losing a Follower whom you cannot find -- along with all the goods that he or she was carrying.

One thing that I found helpful: there are potions you can take to temporarily increase your strength,
and during that brief time (say, 30 seconds or so) you can fast travel to a town where you have a home --to unload your overload. I often use the potion that allows me to carry 50 extra points worth of baggage.

I pick up mainly weapons since I find I get more money out of them after being enchanted. But to answer your question: I am always over encumbered it seems like. :)

I am a packrat and collect just about everything there is to collect. However, that is unique items, not clutter or Ancient Swords.

In the early part of the game, if it is not nailed down or owned, I take it and sell it. As time goes on and money is not an issue, I loot less and less. Now, I don't even look in most chests in most dungeons unless I think there is a unique item in there.

I only loot stuff of value...but I still become overencumbered 80% of the time (as I tend to hoard many of the books I've collected in my inventory)...
