How Often Are You Overencumbered: Do You Loot Everything?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:28 pm

I am overencumbered in every cave i go into... I TAKE EVERYTHING AND I SPEND MY SEPTIMS LIKE CRAZY

And i hate how there is no "ease burden" "lighten load" spells:( (oblivion reference:P)

Sometimes i see im carrying 1,200 weight in ONE CAVE (THIS IS AFTER LYDIA IS PACK MULED UP):P

Luckily there is whirlwind sprint... that helps me... and im a perked up archer... so i cheat a little... and notch my bow and i can walk a bit faster while i wait for that shout to recharge:P

Does anyone have this problem:P

Also when i go into caves im a bit of a scaredy cat:P... a cave thing takes me at least 1 hour to do:P coz i go really slow and check my corners D: and save like 50 saves in one cave D:

I only loot the things of value, enchanted items and what-not. The rest I just leave around, don't care not worth my time and effort, and it doesn't make you enough money.

As for the saving, I press the save button like twice every minute no matter where I am. It's a habbit I got in Morrowind and it stuck

I loot it all and stash it in selected containers at two or three points through a dungeon. I just make a few trips to get it all. That is early game. When I get Dead Thrall spell, I am never OEd again.

I used to take everything that wasn't nailed down in MW and oblivion. This time round I wanted to give myself a bit more immersion instead of running around with 10 weapons and enough armour to fit a small army.

It's almost always dragon bones/scales that does it to me... that or metal from the dwelmer ruins.

I am always having to prioritise and drop things. Not fast travelling, I dread meeting a dragon after a good haul, as I know I will drop things I have agonised over to carry the scales. Doesn't help that for some reason I will always drop ebony swords to carry 25 weight, 25 value Dwemer metal, just because.

I don't like leaving stuff behind... also its funny when i throw out excess items i aways make a huge pile of weapons on the floor... one time i was in a cave... and i threw out like 50 items at once... and it spread so far it fell into the water

I KNOW THAT METAL THAT IS THE HEAVIEST

I tend to loot only useful stuff, or magical items with high value, so besides the early levels (when you don't have an house to store stuff) I'm mostly not overcumbered

Nearly never. On my current character I've dropped stuff only 2 times. Both in dungeons where I became greedy and picked up every single fur armor I saw, hehe.

I just take items that I can use or have a decent weight-to-value ratio. If an item overencumbers me, I look for other things I'm carrying that are of lesser value and drop them to make room. Even doing that I still end up with more crap stashed away in my homes than I'll ever be able to use.

And yeah, I save a lot too. It's a good habit to get into with Bethesda games, given their propensity for crashes and glitches, though Skyrim (for me anyway) has far and away been the most stable Beth game I've played.

Why not fast travel? ive got the hang of it... its best to not drop anything whilst in a cave... and keep moving forward coz in Skyrim they give you a shortcut to the start which is a great new feature in caves, also if you have ur achery up and the bow notched you can move a bit quicker... that plus whirlwind helps alot, back when i was a low level, whilst overencumbered at the end of a cave and having to head back with the short cut i would bide my time by leveling up my illusion and alteration, best ones to use were detect life, and muffle

If you can fast travel whilst on a horse... it save huge amount of time and you get super rich and level up speech too

THATS JUST ME I LOOT EVERYTHING AND HAVE MOUNTAINS OF SWORDS AND STUFF XD

I'm rarely overencumbered and I'm also really picky with what I loot. I've found most weapons are useless to carry around for enchant/sell purposes compared to making my own and leveling 2 crafts for the price of one. I tend to look all urns, check all bowls and floors for tasty surprises and I pickpocket/loot/take all gold, enchanted armor or weapons, staves and gems and potions. I also take mages robes because at a weight of one, they're really economical.

The only character that floated dangerously near being unable to run all the time was a heavy armor specialist who used 2h weapons. I got him the Steed stone and life was really pretty. A little harder to level warrior skills and still not as bad as seeing his armor and personal armory kill the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of his carry weight before he even picked up a few potions on his way out of town.

I'm getting better at it but I'm finding that it's my potions that are adding unnecessary weight to my inventory. I need to sell more of them instead of hanging on to them. Two potions now equal one pound and that adds up fast. :tes:

I really don't see the purpose of looting everything, at least it doesn't benefit my playing style. I am a level 58 Redgard with alteration, enchanting, smithing, heavy armor, archery, one/two handed weapons at 100 skill. I have almost 100,000 gold and rarely pick up anything besides soul gems, precious stones and gold.

For me it's all about the exploring. Quests and loot take second place. My opinion is the best thing about Skyrim the game is Skyrim the province, and I don't want to miss anything> I have the HUD opacity way down, to minimise the effect of POIs, so a discovery feels like a real discovery, and I have made those just off some paths I have travelled many times.

Things I loot:
- all ingredients
- all magical items, including spell books
- all jewelry/soul gems
- all potions
- dragon bones/scales

Combined with putting points in Stamina and Extra Pockets I am never overencumbered and I still have more money than I know what to do with.

Things I loot: Well just about everything that can be sold for a Septim
So I'm frequently in danger of being overencumbered
I'll dump stuff off and go back for it usually. 1 fort was a real pain. Cleared it of bandits, much more stuff than I could carry so I left a load. Went back the next day and the Legion had moved in

I don't pick up really that much at all but I'll end up fighting 2-3 dragons and that will send me over the limit, my current character doesn't even smith so I may forgo picking any more bones up.

My latest character is a thief who doesn't trust "fences" (in the past she has been burnt by trying to sell stolen stuff to people who report her to the authorities). So she will only loot things she will personally use; she never takes items just to sell them. If she finds a weapon/gear upgrade, she dumps the old gear right there. That basically eliminates encumberance as an issue. She'll take gold, and buy stuff with it, but she'll never sell anything.

It's a fun way to play. At first it's tough to leave so many valueables around, but it's increably freeing to limit yourself (as much as that sounds as a contridiction).

I loot almost everything in dungeons that's worth looting, i.e., weapons, armor, jewelry, scrolls, etc., at the start of a game. Once I have a few thousand gold, I start scaling back.

My rule is once my character has 50,000 gold, I only pickup gold and jewelry (enchant the jewelry and sell it). Maybe a weapon or armor but only if I can disenchant it.

At 100,000 normally I stop looting. Unless there's a high-level item with an enchant that one of my characters can use, like 30% damage increase for archery.

My fourth character just got to level 35, and I stopped at 50,000 gold. It's just not worth spending all that time selling stuff since money is so easy to come by.

If I can't eat it or make something from it, it has to have a value of 1 per 20 or higher for me to take it. (1 weight worth atleast 20g). As it is I clear out all the merchant gold when I hit town.

I looked in my smithing junk cupboard, I have 129 dragon bones and 67 dragon scales, and that is after a couple of suits of improved armor. But I don't think I will ever leave any dragon bones behind...
