How Often Are You Overencumbered: Do You Loot Everything?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:47 am

I only ever loot something that could fit into my pocket. Gold, jewelry, gems, potions, etc. Magical items as well, mostly for disenchanting. I carry a bow, and two melee weapons for backup.

Makes it more fun for me, I suppose.

I only take best equipment, and generally rush through caves very fast, every now and then if I have the weight available, I'll pick up high value items, but generally, I have me, my companion, and I'm just worried about killing everything in the cave and getting to the word wall/finishing quest/etc,

I am overencumbered in every cave i go into... I TAKE EVERYTHING AND I SPEND MY SEPTIMS LIKE CRAZY

And i hate how there is no "ease burden" "lighten load" spells:( (oblivion reference:P)

Sometimes i see im carrying 1,200 weight in ONE CAVE (THIS IS AFTER LYDIA IS PACK MULED UP)

Luckily there is whirlwind sprint... that helps me... and im a perked up archer... so i cheat a little... and notch my bow and i can walk a bit faster while i wait for that shout to recharge:P

Does anyone have this problem:P

Also when i go into caves im a bit of a scaredy cat:P... a cave thing takes me at least 1 hour to do:P coz i go really slow and check my corners D: and save like 50 saves in one cave D:
Just to let you know if you activate the steed stone it lets you carry like 120 more weight and also the armor you wear doesn't count towards your weight as long as you wear it then it's 0 :D hope that helps youtube the steed stone if you want location

I just take items that I can use or have a decent weight-to-value ratio.
I only loot things that has a value of 1:10, or for every one weight point, it has a value of ten.
My golden rule is a weight to value ratio of 1:5 up to level 5, then 1:Level from there. Sometimes I still get greedy, but that is life.

At first when I'm poor and have no house, or many spells I grab mostly everything. Since I try to get one of each book they add a lot of weight at first. A bit of a cheat is when you are encoumbered kill an animal like a mudcrab, wolf or skeever. Put all your junk in it's corspe. resurrect it then fast travel home. It will come with you then immediately end up as an ash pile but all your stuff will still be in it.

After years of experiencing this in RPGs, I've become extremely aware of that number at all times...So, I usually only get overburdened when buying crafting materials.

I usually only loot gold, enchanted wares and gems. As a result, I don't often run into encumbrance problems.

Never over-encumbered. Mainly because I RP Skyrim and my char is only equipped with a small pouch on his armour! Hence I only loot gold, gems, scrolls, potions and other trinkets. I don't smith or enchant and I only take clothing if I can use it, and then I swap 1-for-1 for what I had on. As it was in the days of AD&D, I need to find or buy my shiny things! This actually adds to the fun. As a result, opening chests is a cause for excitement in my game! If I was to carry a full 300 limit, I'd need a small cart to move it all.....and the game didn't provide one, so I travel light!

I follow the minimum value rule. At the beginning of the game I pick up stuff that's worth over 100 septims. As the game progresses I increase the threshold value to 200, 300 and so on.

EDIT: I have become encumbered a couple of times. But I always keep a strength potion with me to deal with those emergencies.

I have a UI mod that allows me to sort by various things, including value per weight. So, I only take stuff over a certain V/W ratio- 10 at the start, and it goes up as I progress in the game (I'm wealthier, so it's less worth it to carry stuff with lower V/W).

On my level 65, I often don't loot bodies at all, and skip some chests (but always pick locked ones to raise pick lock skill). When I do loot, it's only light stuff like gems and scrolls (and of course always pick up gold and lockpicks) or really valuable stuff, like ebony- and not even all of it. I did a run through a ruin a couple of days ago where every other draugr was a deathlord with an ebony weapon. If I'd taken all of them, it would have taken 6 or 7 trips to do it without becoming overencumbered. Besides, that character already has over 100k gold, and it would take days to sell all of them.

well i reduced my carryweight to a more realistic value 100

so i can only carry the clothes i wear the weapons i use and a few other things

i find it much better

unless your trying to become a millionaire in the game u dont need to loot everything to become rich

and my followers can always carry some stuff for me :)

I'm also a kleptomaniac in Skyrim. I pick up anything with a price/weight ratio of 10/1. However, thanks to the follower carry bug, I get Lydia to pick up anything I can't carry.

Selling all the things I pick up is also a pain... until I got the investment perk in speech. Now I'm the riverwood trader's best customer.

My gold is at 250000 and counting... wonder if I'll ever get to a million...

I've narrowed it down to taking very select things that will be only be worth a signficant amount more after I enchant them. For instance, I always take all boots over almost all armor. The sneak enchantment for even the cheapest boot almost always will be worth more than its accompanying armor once its enchanted. And the carry weight between boots and armor is drastic.

I take all daggers, preferring them over armor most of the time due to weight and ease of enchantment. It only takes a petty sould gem to be able to get 200+ coin for even an iron dagger with a soul trap or fear enchantment. On one quest to kill the Stormcloaks at a ruin, I picked up 25 steel daggers. I made around 5,000 septims on that. If I'd have taken their armor, I would have had to have used common soul gems, carried 3+ the amount of weight, and gotten less money for the trouble---plus multiple trips back and forth.

I don't take steel or iron anymore. It has to be orcish or better.

Early in the game you have to take just about anything you can carry. But at level 10 and up, take select things and enchant them; leave the rest behind.

Once I'm Thane of every city I'll stop picking up stuff completely. The only reason I do it is to buy houses.

I leave my horse parked outside the dungeon, and drive back to town afterwards. The horse can still fast-travel when you are overencumbered so its handy.

Forward power attacks let you move quickly while burdened inside the dungeon.

i must loot all valuables. i must become encumbered.
park horse outside and stash in a chest near entrance while dungeon hopping.

unless, i'm strictly rping then i have realistic weight totals and character specific loot. but, it's very hard to leave loot.

I used to get over encumbered easily until a few days ago, even with pack mule Lydia following me everywhere. Then I learned the trick to bypass her weight limit. What you do is drop the loot on the ground. Ask her to do something, and then tell her to take the loot off the ground. She will ignore her weight limit, and pick it up. Bonus is I never have to hear her whine "I am sworn to carry your burdens". Now I will never be over encumbered again. I plan to keep trading loot until the merchant has a single digit number of septim left, and then visit the next shop. I will be the richest man in Skyrim soon with houses in every hold filled to the brim with loot I haven't sold yet. :celebrate:

With my light armor thief I usually start at about 70 and try not to exceed 100. I have TG armor, sword, bow, dagger, some extra clothes, and about 10 potions. Over the course of the adventure I will pick up alchemical ingredients, gems and jewelry. I am usually OK with picking up one more weapon - but only 1.

I never pick up armor and carry it around. The only armor that I have actually taken was a quest reward. I will only pick up weapons that I want to use and try to avoid having more than two weapons at a time.

I was encumbered with about 20 worth of $@!%& quest items that I couldn't drop. Use SkyEdit to make most of that weightless so now Iam down to only about 10 that I can't drop.
