How would you survive a Zombie apocalypse?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:48 am

I'd just go chill in one of the smaller towns in East or West Texas. Or go north to places like Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, ect ect. Plenty of people armed and ready to kick butt...but lets go more in-depth.

1. Those states have small populations (except Texas, but here it's centered on urban areas), so the chances of getting a big ol' horde o' zombies would be pretty small. I'll leave those to you insane, coastal people and Europeans.

2. Spread of an infection of the coasts would be insanley fast, but in the central states, it would be much slower. And I'm talking SLOW. More than enough time to prepare yourself and others to ride the disaster out. While you city-folk (and Europeans) are dying in droves, and rationing every bit of supplies you have, me and my "red neck" buddies will be having BBQ and taking potshots at the occasional zombie that passes by.

3. Small towns are great. They are usually out of the way, and don't get much traffic. Because of this, infected aren't likely to find their way to the town. Also, a lot of people know each other, and trust each other, so the whole town will be able to contribute to the defense. Have regular patrols, and make sure the childen are always watched by armed advlts.

4. Defense would be relatively simple. Have a town meeting to work out a plan, and get everyone armed as soon as you can. Luckily, small town folk have a plethora of rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Heck, in Texas, I've seen people with ROOMS of guns, and plenty of ammo. Awesome.

5. Stay away from coasts and urban areas. Mucho dangerous; likely crawling with zombies, infected, and idiots.

6. Be ruthless, but merciful. If a woman's daughter is infected, don't kill her. Instead, put her into isolation. When she dies, then reanimates, cap her. Then have a legitimate funeral.

7. Make your dwelling your own mini-fortress. Just because the town is out of the way, and everyone is aware of what's going on, committed to a defense, and armed, doesn't rule out the chance of a zombie horde attacking. If the defense is compromised, and people start dying left-and-right, stay calm. Move to a secure location (likely your own dwelling) and wait until things die (no pun intended) down. Hopefully you'll have a mode of transportation available. Search for survivors if you can, then get the hell outta there in search of another safe place.

Although parts of the American Mid-West may be "slow" to get to, if it takes 12 hours for a person to turn when infected, then the virus could spread in most regions. You also have to take into account that the virus would spread even faster because many people wont even believe an outbreak is unfolding until it is coming through their window.

Go out into the ocean an anchor down and come back once every Sunday to see if you guys have arrived.

Got a cut off date in case we join the ranks of the undead or get killed for supplies?

Then we're meeting up with the Brits and heading for the Caribbean. It's going to take a while to get to Hawaii, since the Panama Canol will probably be out of order, forcing us to sail around Cape Horn.

It will take me 2-4 hours to get to Portsmoth if video games have successfully taught me how to drive that is. I should be able to get to The Trafford centre on foot and the internet and power should stay working for a couple of months after civilization is destroyed so we can keep in contact on BGSF. Then TeeHee can tell me she's coming to pick me and anyone else up and can send a small boat down the canols to Salford quays where me and my fellow survivors will be waiting for pick up.

Considering how zombies have fully entered into our culture, and how even normal people have plans against zombies, I somehow doubt that nowdays people would be taken utterly by surprise by a zombie outbreak.

I will give you that the incubation period for the virus is a possible hazard. It also depends on WHERE the intitial outbreak is, first response by authorities, and how durable these zombies are. For all we know, massive trauma could effectively re-kill them. Still, though, just like humans trauma to the brain is the best bet, but if you have the chance to test it, see what happens when you just unload onto their torso.

Necrosis sets in pretty quick: if zombies are able to go long period of time, then the heart must still be pumping blood. Damage the heart enough to stop that pumping, and you get rotting zombies that can't do anything pretty quickly.

The problem is though, is that most people, when they hear the first report of an outbreak on the radio, will mostly pass it off as a hoax. This will go on until some credible reports turn up, and then at that point it will probably be too late. And if the virus manages to go nation wide without a proper government response, than it could overrun major cities and possibly some small towns. If you have read World War Z, it will probably go down like that.

How are we going to stop ourselves from killing each other once aboard? Chances are most of everyone we've ever cared about will be dead, including ourselves if we're unlucky, and tensions will be high.

Hmm, I don't know if the trains, plans, or automobiles will be able to get me out of seattle. I might have to hop in with my friend's dad's boat. Who, by the way, is planning on using said boat in case of a zombie attack and has his own arsenal.

Anyway look to the west, for the peregrine sail.

By that time someone will have raided beth for TES V. And we will also be playing poker with ammunition. And board games. +1 Risk.

But no monopoly. That game can start a massacre.

I propose we form a council, and make sure we're able to save at least one psychologist.

I'm sorry, but World War Z is the biggest bunch of hooey I have ever read. Even taking into account that it is about zombies. Apparently the dopes of World War Z (in universe) had never seen a zombie flick, and know little to nothing about them. While we in the real world have massive discussions (like this) about zombies. But the prevailing idea is "damage the brain". A worthy tactic, cause something can't even function without its brain. However, unless the virus is preserving the walking corpse, zombies wouldn't be much to worry about have a few weeks, unless the heart is still pumping blood. And if that's the case, trauma to the muscles or heart could end zombies pretty quickly. Explosions would work great, technology that destroy organs, ect ect.

To reiterate, unless the virus/plague/whatever is actually doing something weird to the corpse, then for all intents and purposes, we would simply be fighting dumb cannibals.

PS: Remember, embalming is done for a reason. The human body rots pretty quickly if blood and such isn't going through it.

Why, the mods will keep order of course. We need to go via Spain to pick up Rohugh by the way.

But a cruise ship is stocked with tons of food. Besides, once we're out of range of the mainland, we're going to search the boat for any possible infections...

Container Ships have literal tons of food in tight, air-conditioned, you know... containers. And you never know when you're on a container ship just what you're gonna find. An illegal shipment of weapons? A box full of childrens' chemistry kits? 100,000 pormo magazines? The possibilities are endless!

Yeah, a doctor would be good. We also need scav teams in case we're at sea longer than expected, and the best shots should be organized into a security/police force. There shall be no anarchy on the high seas, hopefully.

I'm a good shot too.

Damn, looks like I'll be busy if zombies ever try and eat BGSF brains.

I'd prefer to cook bacon and scream at people over shooting, though.
