Yeah I think it's stupid too. If you are using gloves or a metal fist than you are "Unarmed"

Well, I think the reasoning behind it is that one requires the user to still punch while the other doesn't. Meaning that one multiplies the power of a punch while the other doesn't.

I don't use melee weapons unless I'm out of ammo but I'm fine with some of the melee weapons already in there, especially the throwing spear.Would be even better if they added tomahawks.

The name is a little misleading, yes, but they should still be two different skills. How many boxers would succeed at fencing? I figure the unarmed weapons just augment your fists while the melee weapons are separate entities, if that makes any sense at all. Oh, and it looks like the Shishkebab is coming back :celebration:

Wait can we actually throw the spear outside of vats or is it just going to be like jabbing someone with it?

I'm pretty sure the throwing spears are just that, thrown spears, whether it is inside of VATS or without it.

my biggest disappointment in oblivion was the subtraction of throwing weapons. So, it is nice to see some in FO:NV I just hope they diversify the list a bit, they all seem like "bashing" weapons to me right now.

Throwing Spear?

That's it, I'm definitely siding with Caeser's Legion. I'll side with NCR too but if it's about killing some Legion, they can sod off. :nono:

Throwing spears are looking to be amazing. They'll probably be more useful for my second playthrough melee character, but I think I'll still use them a bit at the beginning of my first playthrough with my for the most part Energy Weapons character. There's a lot more variety with the weapons which is nice. Shishkebab might be in which is enough reason already to create a melee character. All of the more "alternative" play styles are really becoming viable this time around. You have to give Bethesda credit for providing a good base for Obsidion to work off of and greatly improve on.

I'm a guns guy. But, that said.. Add in some great melee stealth attacks, and Im in. I normally can't stand melee, but the throwing spears look really fun. Gonna get creative with those. I'll use them for stealth until a silenced gun is available, and probably still use em. Will be a good reason to have a few points in melee weapons.

Oh god, a throwing spear? I can already see the epicness in VAT's. The spear will go right through the head, and pierce the body to a rock/wall, leaving the body dangling there.

Reading this kinda leaves me with questions... I was reading that we are now able to customize weapons. Does this apply to Melee also? Can we say Drive a few nails at the end of a Baseball bat, or wrap that in barbwire? If we find a led pipe can we add more than one by screwing them together? any more ideas? ;)

I prefer my stealth/sniper characters..but will try other types too.
I like the look of melee, especially the throwing spear, would suit a stealth/sniper character for close quarters :)
Also with the introduction of throwing,it would be good if we could throw other objects....like rocks, ash trays etc....some for a distraction others for DMG, but in all it would add more funny moments too :)
Just my view :)

I'm not sure, it would be difficult to implement for a few but I could see it happening with your baseball bat and pipe examples.

A nine-iron might not be as practical as a Chinese officer's sword, but a Chinese officer's sword won't let me wander the desert like a homicidal version of Chi Chi Rodriguez.

Maybe it needs a minimum distance between you and your enemy before you throw it, but within that distance you use it as a melee weapon?

If they do that it could be cool if it ends up like you have 5 Spears and when you equip one it asks melee or throwing same with hotkeying.

If there's a melee weapon I really want to be in the game, it's going to be the Turbo Super Sledge or something similar that goes boom when you hit someone.

A wider range or thrown melee weapons. It seems that Throwing Spears are an entry level non-explosive thrown weapon, I'm hoping there are also mid and high level thrown melee weapons. Perhaps a progression from knives to spears to hand axes?
