How do you feel about the melee list so far?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:52 am

Here is what the wikia has so far on melee

Melee

* 9-Iron
* Baseball bat
* Broad machete
* Cleaver
* Concrete club
* Machete
* Nail board
* Razor
* Scrap sword
* Sledgehammer
* Super sledge
* Throwing spear

Now this is of course from the wikia, so it may not be accurate or complete. But my thought so far is that this slate of weapons seems very "novelty" in comparison to the melee choices in FO3. What I mean is, the items are certainly a bit more realistic in that they are items that you may find laying about, but they also don't seem worthwhile as much as a nice sharp sword.

Even though it's unarmed, I pick the bladed gauntlet. It's technically "melee."

I'm delighted about so many personal ways to murder people.

Well the scrap sword is huge from the looks of it.. like a claymore, so I think it is a tad better than a Chinese officer's sword :whistling:.

Doesn't it seem like it would be better to combine Melee and Unarmed skills together kind of like what they did with Big Guns and Small Guns skills?

It makes sense to me but I wanted to see your thoughts on the matter. (Also I'm digging the list of weapons so far can't wait to steal a Nightkin's Scrap Sword) :tops:

I am excited for the throwing spear. Wish they had an axe in this game though.

Indeed. I'm pretty excited that they've worked ranged attacks into the melee system. Throwing spears will do nicely for low level stealth characters, not skilled enough for a close range critical.

He has the scrap sword listed. Bladed gauntlet, boxing gloves, and power fists are under "Unarmed". I know it's stupid.

We need chainsaws and lawn chairs.

What's the difference? Are there bonuses for both if you do a sneak attack? Why two separate skills?

Nope. Note how the Bladed Gauntlet isn't there either. This is a melee weapon list. Boxing gloves fall in the Unarmed category. It all looks pretty good so far. The list is already pretty big and there's bound to be twice as many as we've seen so far. I'm definitely going to have fun creating a melee character after I finish the game as my Energy Weapons + some Guns character. I think the Shishkebab might be coming back because I'm pretty sure I saw it in some video. That would be an excellent melee weapon to bring back.

I'd like to see proper shanking material. Some melee weapon that gives a specific advantage to stealthy players.

Yeah I think it's stupid too. If you are using gloves or a metal fist than you are "Unarmed"

I also think I saw the shish, only it was in a screenshot from one of the previews. Personally, I hated the Shish, it was just too stupid. Shame, really, because whenever I made a melee character I had to make them underpowered to be able to play without feeling like a dunce.
