How do you make your game more challenging ?

That was brilliant ! i might steal that "rule" for myself if you dont mind

Please do

I swiped the no outfit change during combat rule from another player on the forums because I thought it was genius, I love seeing all the different frameworks people create for themselves in these games and incorporating ones I like into my own game.

There are loads of common ones too, it might be worth making an extensive list at some point, when you see a good one you never thought of it's quite cool, it's certainly a fresh angle for a wiki entry or something.

I decided to make a batman character, ebony armor, only unarmed attacks, max out speech, smithing, enchanting and alchemy but not use any of them except improved unarmed attacks but with weak level enchanting, that way I get the levels from the crafting but not the advantages they give

Umm sir, would you explain to me how is that a batman character?

As a player, I shouldn't have to do odd or strange things to make the game more difficult.

Yeah, I did go into alch/blacksm/enchant but why should that be reason for imbalance? Shouldn't the game have been play tested so this couldn't have been so OP? It's not like I cheated somehow, I just played the game and leveled this stuff legitimately.

This sort of comment makes me want to bang my head on the desk!

Look at it from the other side. If they made the game so you could only get through a dungeon if you'd gone through the crafting exploits, would people still be playing the game?

Let me put it this way: The only players who need to work to make the game more of a challenge, are those who've worked to make it less of a challenge.

Okay well not quite but ebony armor looks the closest to batman and batman punches people a lot, the other things are just to boost level so that you get things like bandit highwayman instead of regular bandits then go out doing combat, I know it's not perfect but a character who only uses fists is the closest you can get in skyrim

Well in my original playthrough I only put one single perk into the one handed tree, despite constantly using one handed swords, I also only used a Dwarven sword, made fights last a bit longer. I don't like dying at all however so I made sure to boost my armor and health as much as I can to the point of near invincibility, as well as carrying a couple of ultimate healing potions just to be extra safe.

Now however I know that one handed increases based on the damage you actually do, and that killing enemies in one blow will gain you the same amount of experience as killing them in 20, so I'll put more points into one handed.

maybe the nightingale armor is a better fit. I suppose batman would suplex a lot of people :)

Yeah the hardest difficulty should have penalties with things like smithing and alchemy and such, never use it myself but feel sorry for people who enjoy a challenge when gaming.

Actually ya, that armor would suit him better since he's also sneaky, though he'd probably bring down the thieves guild I'm guessing, I hate how there's barely any chances in the game to go against factions or daedra. I don't care if you're an all powerful daedra!!! You devour the souls of friggen dragons, but when a daedra prince comes around your character turns into the okay guy meme. I get they should be tough but you could have like artifacts that could destroy them at least temporarly and hide it deep in a dungeon guarded by crazy monsters and still make it that the said artifact wouldn't overpower the fight.

Very true. I've gotten addicted to the challenge of master difficulty, but I'm also addicted to the feeling of overcoming that challenge and becoming formidable again after that rough patch of weakness from levels 10-20. I don't find I need or want to handicap myself in any other way. My current sneaky character is about level 35 and can still be one-shotted pretty easily, so the game world still feels perilous enough. But if I can sneak up behind something, it's basically dead. And I like that--I worked for it.

For me, the smartest thing one can do to avoid the challenge disappearing altogether and keep the game fresh is not to try to do all the content with the same character. Most of my characters have done all the things I want them to do by the time they reach levels 35-40. The only downside is that I'm not seeing some of the high-level gear and bosses (Ancient dragons and higher), so I may push my current character higher than that.

Would playing a character who wears mainly just clothing count as challenging? I didn't find Gutslit's early gear(a black robe, gloves, a hood, and some long fine boots) to be that hard to do. It was a bit tough, but it wasn't too bad. He only had any armor on at all out of need, and made sure it covered his whole body. He wears his Thieve's Guild armor now because the hood hides his face better. I'm at level 46 on him.

I suspect it would, and I've been toying with this idea for my sneak--just having her walk around in a dress, with a bow and a couple of daggers. But I wasn't going to try that until I got close to the soft level cap. For now, I'm happy to have her running around in her current mix of Nightingale and Shrouded light armor.

Gutslit was using a bow only until he got with the wrong crowd again. Ah, I love using his past to move him somewhere in the future. He wasn't enjoying the Companions, and his date with Aela wasn't the hunt he was excepting. He decided to join the Thieve's guild after while. Now he's much happier. Well, Gutslit's happiness is more or less either killed a Thalmor or stole something...
