Are you sure your putting in the CD key and not the PoP code? Might be a dumb question but you never know... Sorry if it's no help.

I work 12 hours every day except for right now ON MY VACATION TIME, mining coal risking my life. There are no 0's or O's in the key.

I'm sorry, good sir, but did you just say "mining coal?"

Just read a bit about people losing their Skyrim games on Steam after online websites had sold that CD key(there's sites that will sell you the key only online so you can torrent the software or borrow discs or something else to install.. kinda common ><) after jacking it from boxed copies.

Wonder if that was it? Throwing ideas out mostly ><

I swear I checked every single letter. Steam says the codes should be like 'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx' or they might look like 'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx xx' but mine is 'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx'

I would type my key on here to prove how it looks nothing like Steam's format, but that's against the rules.

This doesnt help you at all, but a small correction
----------------------------------------
Keys look like the following:
xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
or
xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
or
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xx
--------------------------------------------

your "'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx'"' key is the right format.

Well I'm just saying what I see and the only two formats it gave were the ones I stated it gave, not the one inside the box.

Yeah, Nemi is awesome.

Anyways, I've never had any trouble with Key-Codes. I didn't need mine to activate the game on Steam either, just put it into the disk tray, ran it, installed it and activated it. No serial needed.

Ignore the format.

Type the key and;

Do it without spaces at all (eg 12345678)
Type it with - instead of a space (eg 1234-5678)
Type it with a space and a dash then a space again (eg 1234 - 4567)

Each time making sure its in capitals if typed in caps or in lower case if typed in lower case on the box.

That doesn't happen, I put it in, then it comes up with a setup that has 4 options:
Install
Technical Support
www.elderscrolls.com
Exit

After I install:
Validate Your Game Copy

Yes

Can you take a screen of the box telling you to type in your code? I'm pretty sure there is some option to redeem your copy digitally.

IIRC there are TWO types of keys. There is a retail key which you install via the game and a steam key which steam gives you for digital versions though you dont normally need to type it (its auto-inserted). I know this because my Dawn of War 2 games has two different keys, one for the retail disc and one steam assigned after install.

I wonder if the op is putting in a retail key in the steam digital key window.

But the thing is I can't even install it first, it says "Give me the key or your game isn't real"

Skyrim is on sale on Steam for 29.99, I never had issues getting the digital copy. I've never had issues with physical CDs though, just bring the game and receipt back.

I've never heard of anything like that. Maybe the problem is on Steam's end and hopefully resolved in a few hours? Weird...
