A Huge Turn-Off For Even Buying.

Post » Sun Jul 15, 2012 5:32 am

I bought Skyrim for xbox now I have a decent computer, bought it and just 10 minutes ago tried putting the [censored] key into Steam to activate it "INVALID CD KEY, YOU MAD BRO!?". [censored] YEAH I'M MAD.

EDIT: Not normally like this, but when it's on the weekend (WHY NO SUPPORT ON THE WEEKENDS WE ALL HAVE TO WORK ON THE WEEKENDS TOO, YOU KNOW) really gets me pissed. 4-6 days via email for Steam support, [censored] that.

Take it back to the store and tell them you want your money back or a product key code that hasn't already been stolen and used. Make sure that copy is sealed first.

Oh and I've also read that some disks were shipped w/o a keycode on the case.

From what I read he bought the DISK. You need a key code to activate the DISK. He has every right to be pissed.

I just took it back, got another and still the wrong key-code. Now I'm calm because I know it's obviously my fault this is happening, I just don't know how. I'm un-installing Steam and re-installing right now to see if that works. Sorry for the caps and censor rage everyone.

Did NOT work. This is really pissing me off. Screw trying to buy the next game from Bethesda!

Wait so TWO separate copies of Skyrim have the "wrong" keys? Nope, I think you're right something on your end is causing the problem. Obvious question, is the code Caps-Sensitive? Are you mistaking 0's for o's? Give us an update if you get it to work :)

It's certainly irritating, but I guess the only solution is to wait until Monday and get in touch with Steam's support for help.

Very good points. The odds of buying two copies with screwed up codes are very slim.

I swear I checked every single letter. Steam says the codes should be like 'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx' or they might look like 'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx xx' but mine is 'xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx'

I would type my key on here to prove how it looks nothing like Steam's format, but that's against the rules.

You could've bought it and started the DL before bed, and it would've been ready when you got up, but that is beside the point.

Unfortunately I have no advice for you, because I've never bought a steam game at the store and tried to plug in a serial key. :(

This is strange, I also bought the retail version of Skyrim but mine doesn't require a CD key, it doesn't even have one let alone require one
When install, by default it install through steam, have you tried maybe installing through the actual disk itself? Might not make a difference but worth a try. Follow this guide http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1258133-installing-from-disc-instead-of-steam/

As soon as I press 'SETUP.EXE' it goes straight to installing Steam, then after that it requires me to automatically put a key in. I do that, and it says 'Invalid CD-Key'.

Amazing how General Discussion is so more helpful than the actual support section. Wow. Sorry if I'm being an [censored], but all I want is to play, not be given an invalid cd-key thing on Steam.

I didn't have a good computer at the time. Now I do, 6 months later. In the meantime I had an xbox 360, played it on that to level 52. I even got the Dawnguard DLC and beat it the same day I got it as a Vampire Lord.

First of all the chances of getting two sepearate sealed copies of the game with mis-printed cd-keys are so slim its astronomical. Second support staff work 12 hour shifts five days a week. They deserve a break from all the teen tards and anus hats that phone them demanding job loses due to the users Id10T errors. Expectiing them to work, during the summer weekend when people are on holiday is foolhardy.

Now as for the key;

Type in all capitals
Either leave spaces or insert - as required
Type it exactly as you see it. O and 0 are easily confused by many

I work 12 hours every day except for right now ON MY VACATION TIME, mining coal risking my life. There are no 0's or O's in the key.

I have. And I only had issues with actually installing STEAM, the game itself installed just fine.

Though if he bought it at Gamestop, those lil are known to just take serials for personal use and stick the things back in the shelves.

Looks like it's going to take longer to get a new copy. Would have waited those 6 hours.
