Hypocritical Stormcloaks...

Post » Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:55 am

Anyone else notice this?

I mean...they hate the empire, but they worship an Imperial Emperor; they hate any species not Nord, but they're quick to grab any that seem to be better at fighting than them; they love Ulfric because he "stands up for true Nords," but Ulfric is trying to get rid of the Empire - which has been prevalent in Skyrim for longer than any of them have been alive (so one would think, true Nords would be loyal to the Empire - as Hadvir's father says at the beginning of the game when asked about the Empire - "Nords are no fairweather friends").

Oh here we go as a imperial supporter I can understand the stormcloaks goals and why they fight I simply don't trust the man behind the cause.

Just because you have been under the thumb of a conqueror for more than one generation, does not mean you have come to accept the situation.

I've noticed. They are every bit as full of it as the Empire. That's kinda a strength of both sides though to me there is no clear right and clear wrong.

But, yes, they definitely are.

True nords would be true to the Septim empire. The empire today is falling apart. Skyrim is better of separating itself before the empire drags them down.

ulfric hates what the empire has become. not what it was. hates the empire because the emperor surrendered and agreed to banish talos worship instead of faced his death.

Yup I say the flame war is going to break out on the second page. I personally think this is not the right time for skyrim to be independent after we kick the domnion ass? I say go for it.

I'm more irritated by Dunmers in Windhelm. They whine how they live in a slum... I bet they would enslave Nords if they had to migrate to Morrowind. Argonians, Khajit, remember:)?

True, the Empire in Skyrim reminds me of the Austria-Hungarian empire right before World War I. A sort of forced together group of people of different cultures who don't really care for each other but are still together by will of the central ruling power.

Tiber Septim was a Nord (so the prevailing theory goes) and the empire turned its back on him. As Galmar says when you point out that Skyrim has always been in the empire, "not this empire." The Septim line died out with Martin's sacrifice and the Medes came to power just like Ulfric does- by saying "I'm in charge now" and putting up the muscle to prove it. Only now, they aren't able to hold it all together.

Also, the Stormcloaks don't "hate any species which is not a Nord." Some are racist, but most just want Nords to rule Skyrim.

But yet if they do breakaway from the Empire. What's stoping the Thalmor, or anybody else from taking over Skyrim? If anything they are better off by staying with the Empire. The Civil War made them even weaker if the Thalmor, or someone else tries too.

Fair enough, but that's why I brought up Hadvir's father - like he says, "I may not like what the Empire are doing now, but true Nords are no fairweather friends." Or something to that effect. They may not like what they're doing NOW, but a true Nord would still support them in the hope of change back to what it used to be, in the future.

ulfric hates what the empire has become. not what it was. hates the empire because the emperor surrendered and agreed to banish talos worship instead of faced his death.

Fair point - the surrender is a big deal to them, I'll admit. But what about all the race (or species, whatever) issues?

Yeah at least the emperor faces his death like a boss than run like a little girl like what ulfric done after he kills the high king if he was a true nord he would of stood there firm after he killed the high king. The emperor is more of a nord than ulfric.(before anyone says anything I know the emperor is not a nord)

true, but i believe this was ulfrics reasoning behind starting the war, that the empire had become weak under a (who he considered to be weak) emperor, due to how mede handled the thalmor marching up to the imperial city and making the white-gold concordant. i dont have the actual quotes right now, not near my xbox.

This is true.

The Emperor accepts his death with dignity and honor. He knows things are screwed up and need to be cleansed. He knows him being assassinated is destiny.

I don't see why this is particularly admirable. If he wanted to die, he could have just fallen on his sword and saved everyone a lot of trouble.
