Im actually torn on characters right now, and if anyone had any feedback, I wouldn't mind it right now.
My original character was a Breton named Thadious, loosely based on a character of my own fiction. Would be considered "lawful good" (although I did make some morally wrong choices like killing the priest of boethia to obtain the Mace of Molag Bal).
The basic archetype was a Shadow Knight (heavy armor warrior skilled in Necromancy) with a more specific roleplay being that he could manipulate souls to his will, reanimating dead bodies to serve him, harvest the souls of his victims and use them to imbue his gear with magical properties and essentially make him stronger. Even though he was skilled in dark powers, he aimed to use them for good, and control his powers and not become corrupted by them. (his polar opposite is Khulain, my character I used in Oblivion, who became corrupted by his powers and his only desire was ultimate power).
Specific skills for Thadious were One Handed (blade and dual wield focus), Heavy Armor, Conjuration (Necromancy focus), Enchanting, Alteration, Restoration, Smithing, as well as some Speech (persuasion focus).
Unfortunately I lost this character - level 38, 95 hours, had completed the main quest, College of Winterhold, and nearing the end of the Civil War (Imperial Legion).
So I've had to start over. I wanted to recreate the character, because I really enjoyed the experience. In my attempts, I've discovered that I really like Illusion, particularly Frenzy spells, and have incorporated them into the playstyle. This includes a lot of sneaking around to make sure I am undetected, and my enemies target each other after Frenzy and not me. I then send in companions, raised servants, and myself, equipped in heavy armor and further protected with Shield spells, to clean up the mess.
Problem is, sneaking around and mental domination isn't part of who this character is - at least the fictional character I have based him off of.
It is a part of another character of my own fiction, however, a character who I originally intended to play in Skyrim. A "correction" of my Morrowind character, if you will.
A Wood Elf, with very similar skills as Thadious (a heavy armored Necromancer) also skilled in mental domination (originally I wanted Command spells, with a focus on creatures for a Druid style roleplay, but that didn't work out). Sneaking around would be in character, as he is an assassin of sorts (although with Heavy Armor I won't be doing much traditional assassinating, as I won't be perking my character to that style of play).
So, the new skillset would be largely the same, but different enough for me to warrant being a different build and character. Heavy focus in One Handed, Conjuration (Necromancy), Illusion, and Enchanting, with support from Alteration, Restoration, Heavy Armor, and Smithing. (That is a lot of skills, but I have my 50 level plan all worked out).
Sounds great, right? Problem is, I simply put like Bretons better than Wood Elves. I simply put like the Thadious character more than the Marr'Taan character (the name of my Wood Elf character). And the build is just out of character enough for Thadious that it doesn't feel right playing him.
So that's my conundrum. Its the build that I want to play, but I dont feel right playing it either way, because it doesn't fit the Breton, but I like the Breton better than the Wood Elf. So im not exactly sure what I wanna do.
