Joshua Graham (Burned Man) Speculation

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2011 11:12 pm

I have to say thumbs up to Obsidian, I'm not often this excited about a character we know so little about. This goes for both Ulysses and Graham. They really know how to build up an ingame myth. Hope they don't ruin it when we finally meet them.

I think he'll be a bit like Veronica. He'll have symphaty for Legion but will question their beliefs and actions from time to time. Maybe a bit more aggresively.

Oh and if they bring him in straight from Van Buren, we'll see him covered in bandages. Gonna be an interesting guy to have along.

I believe that Graham was rescued by Boomers whom either took him to Followers or possibly Nelliis. Modern medical care is the only Graham could have
possibily survived. What if Riley's Rangers had a branch in New Vegas and picked. Graham. up.?

HEre's a thought: NCR forces rescued and operated on Graham. Graham was given a choice: help the NCR or else be shot.

Actually some people have survived incredibly high falls. A woman named http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulovi%C4%87 survived a 33,000 foot fall (of course it was partly being still in the plane that saved her life, but still).

There's also been people who have attempted suicide in my home town, San Francisco, on the Golden Gate Bridge. The Golden Gate's 220 feet above the water, and about 20 people have survived the fall (albeit with a lot of injury). Depending on what part of the canyon he fell from, his physical structure, etc. could save him. He'd be in a lot of pain and have a lot of broken bones, but it doesn't mean he'd be dead.

But this is also a fictional universe. They can say he survived it "just 'cause".

I wonder if those slaves saw Graham or a burned man they identified with Graham?

I also wonder if an obviously resourceful man like Graham may have substituted a faithful follower for himself and escaped.

Or, what if Graham is alive and well, with Caesar's full knowledge, on a secret mission? Caesar's goal of instituting fear of failure in his army would be fulfilled and his old friend (?) would still be able to function behind the scenes. Maybe those slaves saw the 'burned man' because he was sneaking near the camp to make a report?

The Rangers were a group of five, (or was it four?) in 2277, and you're telling me that in 4 years they could have gathered a bunch of new members and traveled across most of the country? And these aren't even people as well equipped as the Brotherhood who did the same. Would just be unlikely and unnecessary.

I think keeping with the "this guy is a tough bastard" thing would be sufficient for an explanation of his survival. That's pretty much what it was supposed to be like in Van Buren.

The legion can go to bed, 6 feet under. If graham is still loyal to the legion in anyway and i get the option to kill him... well its bye bye to the burned man :)
Im independent in the game. I do not wish to support any faction in the game. Mostly because i do not like what they stand for. Si if graham can convince me that hes not a [censored] i will spare him :)

I think Graham will look like a mummy rapped in bandages fromhead to toe, with a very raspy voice due to being burnt like a ghoul,
I hope we get him as a permenant companiona and let him kill Ceasar :)

Graham will be sick if they do a future DLC on him. Heck why not go to the Grand Canyon. It's a good distance away but you could set it up as a great treasure lies at the bottom but you also know that Ceasar also threw the Burned man into the grand canyon. Hopefully they have someone unique doing the voice for the Burned man.

I wonder what his opinion of the NCR will be...

I am using a Ranger character so I don't want him to attack me on site :/

So, everyone believes Graham's fate is as described in the game? I still wonder if there's some subterfuge involved.

Well he was going to show up all horribly burned in Van Buren, so I doubt it.

And It'd be pretty lame if he wasn't burned, and just looks like a normal guy.

I'm thinking he will be an average build, but have very advanced weapon training... as for faction not sure because why in his right mind would he go with Caesar now. However he should have a "points" like Boone and Raul so he can possibly unlock his old burnt and beat to sh*t Legate armor or you can make him give it up and he wears some variation of his bandages, which we all know he will be covered in.

They could also make him not a companion all together and instead in New Canaan you could ether aid his own faction or go against it.

Better be like he was suppose to be: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Joshua_Graham

Although I doubt he'll look like a mummy i cant see how it wouldnt be possible, espescially if you compare it to the other weird [censored] we've seen in the vanilla game let alone a DLC based around a man whos practically immortal, but in true fallout style i think the devs will just make him look like a ghoul and call it a day lol.

I wish they stuck to Van Burren.

Burning Man is just covered in pitch, lit on fire and thrown into the Grand Canyon.
But the Hanged Man is hanged, lit on fire with pitch, and then thrown into the Grand Canyon! -Or was found in the grand canyon(not sure)

Better be a pissed off dude thats looks like a mummy.(you know with the burnt skin and bandages.)

Also hope to hear about Hecate and her dogs.(That would be nice)

I thought that The Prisoner was going to find Josh in a town hanged from a lightpost which earned him the nickname of "Hanged Man".

I haven't read it in awhile, so your probably right. All I remember was something about Fort Abandon.

I just like the sound of saying Hanged Man. Better name IMO.

Me too, but... Maybe... It's just the slaves calling him Burned Man?
What if we do find him hanging from a lamp post in the DLC?
That would mean he is de facto Hanged Man. :D

[edit]

What I meant is, he is probably not called Hanged Man because he hasn't been hanged yet.

I like the way you think. :D

Or maybe they change it up a bit by saying the tribals who found him try to hang him and you have a chance to cut him down or something.

Maybe when Graham got thrown of the cliff he landed on a cliff edge and gut nursed backed to life by savage/tribal people living in the Grand Canyon. Graham with his superior knowledge (compared with tribals) could start a new legion or squad?

Maybe he will start to work for Mr. House against both factions. Becasue I'm pretty sure he would never work for the legion again or the NCR.

The Burned/Hanged Man better incorporate most of his identity in Van Buren, and should never be in a situation where he is subservient(for lack of a better word) to someone else, e.g. working for another faction, working as a member of a faction, working according to someone else's interests etc. He should be the guy taking charge, as one of, if not the most cruel opportunistic bastard. The only reason he should aid you in any way, is because you're of use to him, and he can use you to achieve his goals.
