Animals have human(oid) intelligence.

Mammoths can move fast.

Butterflies were once plentiful.

Eat everything you pick.

Dress for cold weather.

Think outside dialogue options.
Don't always fast travel.
Sometimes alternatives aren't spoken.

I played oblivion almost to death (my own) with many hundreds of hours invested. I just got Skyrim yesterday for XMAS and I'm so excited. I get to play it tonight....

A challenge for you, some sage advise in 4 words please!?

I hope you go it for the 360 and not ps3.

As you already know from Oblivion don't think and don't ask just play. You find, see and do everything your looking for sooner or later. Call your friends and family, tell them you'll be back sometime next year. Exploring is great although going into caves and dungeons without a quest may result in broken quests. Don't plan on decorating your house, it's way too hard. Make sure you find the right lady or man to marry. Don't break into the building where you first steal frost(horse), broken quest for thieves guild. Takr how many times you have ever saved in Oblivion and triple that amount while playing Skyrim. Always ask about rumors at the inn's. Take time to listen to everything and everyone. If your a hoarder like me find the steed stone. Enchanting can be awesome if not abused. Side quests are more interesting than main. If your playing on a ps3 like me I feel for ya. If a man asks you to play a drinking game do so, it's a very fun quest.

Finally get something to hold up your jaw when looking at the sky. This game has the best skies I have ever seen. The Sky in Skyrim lives up to the name.

Find Cicero...poor poor Cicero...;!..

Ignore character-inappropriate quests.

(By which I mean, don't go to the magic school or join the thieves guild just because the game tells you to. Do it because your character wants to, and don't do it if it's not his kind of thing.)

Have fun ^-^. Though stay away from mages. Their gameplay is horrible...
Also, save veeeerrrryyyy often. You never know when a horrible glitch or monster will strike.
Also try to stay focused on yuor skills, don't choose 100 to focus on.

You're a giants baseball (especially lower level)
Mamoths arent good pets
Dont buy a dog (I got one and put an arrow in its head 5 mins later cause it wouldent shut up)
Thalmor Agents attack everything (any time I talked to one I managed to piss him/her off)
Imperial Leagions are pricks (I kill them on site now)
pickpocketing is ver useful

the list goes on
