Lacking 1st person view while riding a horse, not very good!

Agreed, so very much. This is one of my major issues with the game (for werewolves too, and probably vampire lords if the pattern continues).

Adding my name to this also. It is even more important with the addition of mounted combat. I play without cross hairs so archery on a horse in 3rd person is gonna be a nightmare. Beth always used to give us options, but not anymore. In bloodmoon there was the ability to use first person as a werewolf. In Skyrim it's 3rd only and yes it is the same thing with horses and most probably the new vampire lord which is slightly offputting. I really don't want to feel like a camera floating behind my character all the time.

Edit:OP perhaps add a poll?

I would at least prefer an optional toggle over a forced change. 1st person view would be perfect for horseback because I hate fighting in 3rd person in general. Maybe the 1.6 update will include an option for 1st person.

I doubt it. Bethesda seem to pick and choose what new things players want. They listen on some topics, but on others don't.

First person view kill cams.

3rd person kill cams for melee and now archery have ruined the game for me.

@ChapTES

that's a good idea, a poll could be useful for that.

I personally think there won't be 1st person horse rinding. Ever. In my opinion, Bethesda's design decission is toward 3rd person view as seen during such animations as horse riding/alchemy table/kill cams etc. You can dream about 1st person mounted combat, but dream only.

EDIT: Which does not count SKSE and mods in general.

Don't you kinda need 3rd person to see what you're slashing at on a horse?

I'd like this as well as fp werewolves, too. Annnnnd it looks like it'll be the same deal with Vamp Lords.

Yeah they should have first person. I saw a crossbow in the trailer and he Had it in his hands while on horseback. I will hate it if they do cheap moves such as when your on the horse your third person, When you want to shoot the bow it switches to first person. Hope it doesnt have to turn to that. -_-

I want first person also. 3rd person crossbow on horse is dumb.

Considering that Beth implemented first person horse riding in Oblivion that was superior to all dedicated horse riding games I've seen, I am surprised that it wasn't retained for Skyrim. I know some young girls (apologies for the stereotype young girls :P) who played Oblivion just to ride around on the horses.

I can live without it, but it would be nice for sure. The one thing I hated about it in Oblivion is the stupid horse neck/head bobbing up and down. It got kind of old looking at it so I ended up riding my horse in 3rd person only mode... LOL! If they could manage to make it visually interesting, I'd like it.

Hmm... well, did you play RDR? I was worried that riding a horse in that game would stink (especially given the clunky controls you usually have to deal with in GTA games), but that was probably one of the best horseback gaming experiences I've every had... and that was 3rd person.

I don't just want first-person, I need it.

I remember getting a certain horse for the DB quest reward. I heroically mounted it and rode into the horizon…only to turn off the Xbox two minutes later because the riding had given me a headache that took a few hours of laying down to go away. I did not have that problem with fp in Oblivion.

While we're at it, let's add FP for werewolves, too!

Yep, I don't want to be in 3rd person view ever.

I would rather have Bethesda look to Mount and Blade in terms of horse related things.. Calvary battles in that never get old...

This is exactly how I feel as well.
I will occasionally go into 3rd to check out a new suit of armor but that's it. Mounted combat got me riding horses again but as the novelty wears off, I have found myself fast traveling more and more.

For me, proper riding simulation requires first person. The reason I've never played RDR is only because it's third person perspective. If it was first person perspective I'd probably absolutely love playing RDR.
Have you ever done much horse riding in RL? Oblivion got the feel of the controls pretty damn perfect in my opinion. It feels just like riding where you turn your head to look independently to turning your horse with the reins. If they had added more gaits it would have been great.

As much as I'd love to, no, I haven't done very much horseback riding. I wasn't thinking realism though. I was thinking gaming practicality. In RDR controlling weapons, shooting, etc. while riding in 3rd person just felt so natural.

I concur.... I want to shoot/slash in first-person as I gallop along, not this crappy third-person garbage. If there's no first-person, I doubt I'll start using horses now any more than I ever have. They're superior mountain climbers, and that's about all mounts really have going for them.

I can see it now. You're riding along when you notice a big Elk run off to the side. You ready your bow from horse back and take aim...just as your horse halts to a dead stop as it slams into a tree and breaks it's neck, because you were unable to see where you were heading while aiming your bow.
Not to mention you'd ride down on an opponent with your weapon ready, then they'd suddenly side step and you have no idea how far to turn your horse to bring it back in line with your opponent. Then, while your turning in circles trying to relocate your opponent, he's lightning both you and your horse up like a bonfire with fireballs. Nothing quite like the smell of seared/scorched/cooked horseflesh in the morning.
