Level Caps and Endings, Oh My

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:34 pm

Masochist allows the player only ONE Save slot -- and that one only available after selecting "Save and exit game."

Well, no one would be able to play the game since we know how buggy it would be.

1. Fix the stability and bugs. Nothing else should happen until they lock down this issue. I get some freezes and I even had one "crash-to-xmb" last night.
2. Make perks acquired every level in all modes but "hardcoe"
3. Make skill point acquisition equal to FO3 (yes this makes "god" characters...that is the point.) in all modes but hardcoe.
4. Return Chinese Stealth Armor to its former (FO3) uberness...yes I know it is a veritable instant win item but that, again, is the point. Again in all modes but hardcoe.
5. Give Karma some noticeable effect. I have yet to see any effect of karma at all. If it is going to stay in the game the use it...otherwise remove it. That would be ok as well.
6. Add a DLC that allows play after the main quest is complete. Who doesn't want this?
7. Patch FO3 GOTY. 'Cause it needs one final hug before bed. Oh and maybe think about more DLC for it as well....just sayin.
8. Oooops...there is one other thing that I would change. The perk Grim Reaper's Sprint. I would have it return half of your total natural AP (before clothing mods or anything else) instead of only 20 AP. Depending on your build this could be a lot or very little.

1. Everyone agrees on this one.
2.eh could go either way on this.
3.same as 2

4. I thought of a different path for the chinese stealth armor. In fallout NV you could add a armor mod to upgrade this armor or any leather armor to use the stealth boy as a stealth field. it would use the stealth boy or any overcharged energy weapon ammo as ammo.

Unfortunately this mod has a side effect if the stealth field is used to much. All special's are effected by use of stealth suit to a max of -5, but no lower then 1. basically it would have the similar effect on your character as it did to the nightkin's and others, it would be like any other addiction, but since this is vegas things can get rather expensive. The farther addicted you are the more it cost to remove effect.
the part below is a joke, well unless you like it.
Continued use can give you a perk called uncontrollable stealth field. Basically it could cause your arm to disappear or even your legs or whole body could be stealthed and then unstealthed at a bad time,

5 I have to agree on that one. I was evil after siding with powder gangers in good spring and nobody else even cared.

6. it would be nice to be able to continue after the main quest is over, but not really a show stopper.

7 meh
8 meh

Now one of mine.

A new recipe Deathclaw repellent. Side effects are as follows. Your enemies won't see you coming, but they will smell you from a mile away depending on wind direction. actually everyone will smell you coming. Just imagine the comments the NPC will make. You can also become addicted to this repellent aswell.

You need 5 deathclaw glands, 5 water, 1 nuka cola quartz

It's not actually a repellent, it does cause all death claw to ignore you for a time. Kinda like a stealth boy time limit. based on science skill. So the higher the science skill the longer it last.

Why are there caps? Here:

1. No god character: IF there was not a cap, then you would become a god and be able to One hit kill everything.

2. Balance

3. SO that the devs dont have to make bullet sponge enemies.

*sigh*

1. If you max out any combat skill you're already a God. So many people overlook this siomple point amidst all the sturm und drang.

2. See #1

3. Fair point.

Though I don't actually object to level caps, per se, I am somewhat disconcerted by how quickly I hit the limit. In my current (second) run-through, I concentrated on thoroughly exploring every side quest I encountered before advancing the main plot line ("Ring-A-Ding!"). Before I even set foot on the Strip itself, I was already 30th level. Additionally, my Skill scores -- excluding Unarmed, Melee Weapons, and Sneak -- all exceeded 80 points. With the availability of magazines, that meant that pretty much ANY time I needed a 100, I got it. That strikes me as being as close to being "godlike" as a person could want.

As others have indicated, slow down the character development such that whatever the limit may be, the player CAN'T reach it before the end of the main plot line is reached. I also like the idea of slowing Skill development. Example: Skill +1 costs 1 Skill Point; Skill +2 costs 3 Skill Points. Skill +3 costs 6 Skill Points. Skill +4 costs 10 Skill Points. Or something along those lines.

I prefer to max out early. I'm not into taking the whole game to FINALLY get the character build I want only to have the game end. Leveling early is fine with me as long as it isn't like FO3 where you have almost everything maxed out (along with "Invincible VATS").

Good. I would still like to hear your reasons and suggestions to the better.

I didn't pop into this thread, declaring I knew best. I wrote a solution as a start point for expanding on the discussion. What did your post do again?

Best suggestions I've seen. Include more perks and leveling for the FO3 set but leave hardcoe Mode untouched for those that don't want to play Smallville: Post Apocolyptic. :D

Everyone wins.

Not everyone wants to play a game for the challenge of it. Only drooling competition junkies would want to eliminate everyone elses fun to promote their own.

Oh really? You act as if the "competition junkies" capped the game at 30 and instituted perks every other level. Call me crazy but I believe that is the way the game was released.

When I want to be a god and just have some mindless fun, I play Fable 3. I don't insist that an exsisting game should be nerfed to my liking and then accuse those who like the game THE WAY IT WAS RELEASED of being the selfish "gaming dictators".

Thank you I think so as well. No one is hurt. Everyone gets what they want. I could do without the smarm though.

No I dont "blame" the COD/HALO crowd for the release but I do take great offense at them for bashing on the fun of those of us who do want to play in the silly, over-powered, ways that we enjoy. As I have said in every post...no one is forcing the "HARDER HARDER HARDER" crowd to play our way...but they sure support the idea of forcing us to play theirs don't they. In one post I and several other said the reason we want to have things like in FO3 was because we have fun doing it and we can choose not to at any time. The general response was a competitive gamers version of "If everyone jumped off a bridge...would you?" As if calling us "carebears" and other such derogatory remarks will suddenly make us as a group go..."You are right! I should go out and get a copy of COD and a paintball gun!" Oh yeah, and the level cap isn't really an issue for me. Just the lack of some of the great silly, and yes over-powered, items and ideas that were a part of the previous game. I love the Fallout universe and storylines but in all honesty the first 2 were almost unplayable so I don't ride Obsidian nuts. There is a reason we don't have "Nintendo Hard" games anymore. I had enough of that crap as a kid in the 80s.
