Little rant about courier's invincibility

Games gotta be easier than flipping an omelette.

flipping an omelette is very hard. I have tried (and not just ones), but I failed (and not just ones).

Honestly, if this game were 100% real, I'm very certian that you'd be one of those people complaining that it's 'too hard'

It's an easy game. Come play some Stalker. No problem with player invincibility at all. ;)

Where you will spend the next couple of weeks.

I would probably spend it on the ground, outlining a perimeter around my body with my decapitated foot, yeah the shot was some kind of limb remover, with my hand that is starting to sear due to the desert heat. Before the end of it all, I'll probably licking my sweat under my armpits for fluids.

Ah the joy of over-exaggerated reality... Wait, so what was this thread about again?

Use hardcoe mode, games is more of a challenege when you can't just have stimpaks instant heal you with a hot-key. Food and drink don't heal you. Crippled limbs can't be healed with stimpaks.

Also go into the Quarry and see how easy it is. And as others have said Lone Wanderer was worce. Hell the Vault Dweller can takeout entire towns at a high level and best weapons and armour. Part of an RPG is not to just run and gun everything.

Tell me one video game that doesn't have this problem? Thats what video games are, a chance to kill a zillion enemies.

CoD series SP - I've killed hundred of enemies.

Dead Space - I killed hundreds of Xenomoprhs.

Metro 2033 - I've killed dozens of mutant monsters.

Diablo 2 - I've killed thousands of demons from the depths of hell.

Would any one play a video game where you kill 3-4 people over the course of a 40 hour playthrough? Come on dude. IT IS A VIDEO GAME

Yes they do, best way to heal is Sunset Sarsaparilla. It makes you thirsty, but there's so much water everywhere you have to wonder why Mojave hasn't turned into swamp. Crippling too is trivial with the abundance of weightless Hydra everywhere. Super Stimpack healing is also nearly instant, and i've yet to find myself in situation where i have to heal myself during battle.

I call it softcoe mode, because there's nothing "hard" about it.

Don't forget about Fixer! Pop one and /wait for 2hr to allow the annoying effects to wear off.

For hardcoe mode, I really wish they would have made purified water a lot more rare to give me more reason to craft it from dirty water.

It is'nt supposed to make it hard. (Imo, They should have made "hardcoe" and "Realism" where realism makes forced travel, No FT, Less inventory space, limits weapon to four things, limits ammo to under 100, and makes it so YOU and the ENEMY die in fewer than three hits.)

It's supposed to be 'Challenging' which it really does'nt do, I just use it because it seems more realistic.

Realism probably wouldn't be fun?

At least it would require a vastly different game.
Take one shot and very likely you are down, if you are lucky you can take a couple more, but god forbid if there isn't an ambulance rushing to you to get you to the closest hospital ASAP.
Where you will spend the next couple of weeks.

I can see it now...

Tobias Funke - Level 12
Deceased
Cause of Death: Deep lacerations on torso caused by maniac with a machete.

Ashley Black - Level 10
Deceased
Cause of Death: Vaporized by Fiend's Laser RCW.

Dr. Doolittle - Level 3
Deceased
Cause of Death: Died from infection after being bitten by a coyote.

Leslie Tiller - Level 2

Cause of Death: Tripped and fell on her own shears.

Very true Styles.
FO1 I took out everyone with leather armour and a red ryder bb gun, and anyone who says that game is easy is flaming, you just need the proper build.
Just like in NV if you make the right build which is very easy to do then you don't stand a chance of dying.
That does not mean the game needs changing for everyone, you as a player should either try one of the many different way of playing, playing another game, or buying a pc and modding it.

Take FO2 if you don't max out on equipment every area and stats in more a power play style the games a nightmare to play casually imo.

As for NV the fort I find easy yes, but try it when vilified and not killing caesar for a roleplay purpose in side the tent.
Try slow semi automatics vs cazadors, try as posted taking on NCR bases after the main quest kicks off, try using nothing but explosives.
In fact try playing it in any other way than shoot with best gun, repeat, and you'll see the difference.

I'm going to agree with the OP here. I see what they mean mostly with the first line, it's just funny how you can indeed shoot a whole town dead then move onto the next. Or, as Astor says, something like "A woman single handedly takes out an entire legion camp?"
This is unrealistic as even on very hard/hardcoe it can still be too easy for a single person to go annihilate the supposed threat to the entire NCR. I've thought a couple of times, it's just funny how I can personally go to the Fort, work all the way up to Caesar then personally shove my boot up his ass.
OP then kinda just loses me. It's a video game, after all. I wouldn't like a video game in which I was restricted to the physical capabilities of a human, in which if I die it's GAME OVER. The realism ends for me when you first talk to Doc Mitchell and he just kinda erandomly shakes his hand as he's talking to you and hos mouth doesn't quite match up to what he's saying. I'm just sad that this little thing has led the person to stop playing New Vegas. It's too great to worry about the fact that the Courier is also too great!

*Edit* I have no problem with my PC being awesome. I don't want to get flamed if this post is misconstrued as a complaint. I love the game and generally have no problem with this. I can just see where the OP is coming from.

Alright, I'll continue with more reasons as to why your OP is BS. Reputation keeps track of how much of a psycho killer you are. When you go to wipe out the legion, did they not know what you were capable of after you become Vilified (which only takes killing a few legionaries to get to. I've done it.) Can you take down the entire Fort without having to reload? (the fact that you say that the ONLY time you reload is when a bug occurs is straight up BS.) I want to see you walk into Caesar's tent being Vilified and see how long you last against numerous Ballistic fists to the face? I would also like to see how well you would be able to take down an assassin team at a low level when the assassin team has a static level far beyond the low-levels.

Hahaha. I remember the first time i encountered a bunch of legion assassins, on my first ever play-through. Suffice to say, In every other play-through since, I don't piss the legion off until i have a hunting rifle and a meat shield.

I remember I got attacked by a (lone) assassin in front of the Saloon at Goodsprings before I got to vegas, And he bursted me with a 10MM pistol over and over until I used turbo and killed him. (I think it was turbo anyways..)

Food does heal in hardcoe otherwise whats the point in getting any survival skill as just having better food does not do squat in itself eating 2 of the mutitudes of crap food is the same food content as most cooked foods but thier regen is lower leaving the healing aspect as the ONLY reason to get survival for better healing foods of which stacking these healing effects turns you into a regening god of death with nearly zero ability to get killed unless you purposely gimp your char or are playing like a moron trying to inject difficulty where none exists.

Personally I am over ChoreCore as its just a boring set of chores to do every X amount of time gets old real fast -> I have modded my Stims to be Regens no matter what and I have a module running that caps the amount of ALL consumables that can be taken to 3 within 2 minutes of the last taken consumable so the game actually has some level of difficulty and gives survival a purpose getting to be able to stack regens of higher quality.

I will also add that my module includes ALL consumables not just food but chems and waters as well so it makes you chose to either stack regens or to heal limbs or pop a turbo or ap regen/buff.

I did the exact same mod for FO3 as well but it centered more around the stims vs the effects of other chems.

OP is on drugs?

NV is a masterpiece and it's all thanks to years of progress. Years of gamers playing and voicing their opinions on game difficulty and gameplay, and developers listening. Things have gotten a lot better over the years. What would you rather have, a game you can't play (because it's beyond your limited human capabilities) or a game that is just easy enough that you can feel good, succeed and indulge in a fantasy? That's what modern day VG's are about - playing a fantasy, whatever that may be for you.

Want to die over, and over, and over again? Want to never succeed? You're not alone! Buy a Nintendo Entertainment System and go ebayin' today!:

Then whats the reason ? because every other free food does exactly the same thing lowers an imaginary av and starts a timer to when you need to do this again -> Boring.

This is quite possibly the most idiotic response to shooting down you fanboyism I have read to date that like saying I want this game to make me turn it off for 6 hours every time I sleep because its more realistic to not be able to do anything while sleeping and the instant sleeping ingame is not enough of a time penality its obscenely stupid to even try to draw a real life comparisons to this games ChoreCore and real life as one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Its brings nothing useful to the game other then do this every x in-game hours and repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat.

The ONLY useful part if ChoreCore is adding weight to ammo and thats it, and given that your companions can carry a metric ton of items even that is a waste of time to care about as it relate to making the game a bit more interesting overall.

That was a joke you silly duck, Also the reason?

You get to make awesome looking decoration items for houses!
The ONLY useul part of hardcoe according to you is your opinion, And companions can carry as much as someone with 6 STR, And they can actually die.

Instead of being bashed upside the head by a bullet, They get shot by the gun held by the bullet.

At best the Courier is able to take out entire cities alone. It breaks the immersion pretty badly. For example I get sent to deal with the King and Pacer by ncr. Ofcourse he tries to tell me that if I do some little work for him, he will cease the violence against ncr. Excuse me? I've taken out dozens of deathclaws, killed everyone in BoS bunker and legion camps (Nelson, Cottonwood). Who is this puny man to tell me what to do? If he doesn't do as I say, I'll just shoot him, it doesn't matter that I'm surrounded by his men, I'll kill them too. If there's gonna be more violence against ncr, I'll find the ones responsible and shoot them aswell. I'll kill the whole freeside if necessary. It seems that the npcs don't quite realize who they are talking to or how deep danger they are when dealing with the Courier.

This eventually led me to stop playing. The courier isn't some very capable agent who everyone wants at their side, but a similar force as ncr or the legion, just ten times more stronger.

At least half the games I've ever played involve playing as a character that is Death incarnate if he/she chooses to be. No offense, but how is this new?

I would like to play with realistic damage.. meaning headshots are always instakill, for both the player and NPCs.

That said, the damage in NV is WAAAY more realistic than it was in Fallout 3. In that game, once you get to around level 20 or so, there are some enemies that take close to 100 rounds from an assault rifle to kill. Now that's just silly.

When was Fallout about realistic combat? I don't mind realistic characters but realistic combat seems a bit much for a RPG.
