Just out of interest - as I am relatively new to Steam, how do I actually GET the patch?
I have the beta because I specifically asked for it - but does it download the actual automatically?

Automatically, yes. Either when you start Steam or the game, I can't remember.

Only for PC, or for the consoles too? That would be the fastest ever :P

It will be dowloaded automatically if you're idle in Steam for a certain time or if you try to launch the game while beeing connected to the internet.
As a long time Steam customer I can tell you, it's impossible to not get any updates on Steam, beliebe me. :D

Only for PC. They're submitting the patch to consoles this week.

Ah I see.
The reason I ask is that I play my game off an SSD, but it's junctioned to the install in my Steam directory, so I have to copy updates over manually...

I'm just hoping they fixed http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1358884-1524-makes-the-creation-kit-unusable/

Also, I'd still like to know if there's a way we can toggle grass shadows off. I really don't want them.

Steam shut down my game, then steam crashed, then I had to verify cache. Hardly the most user friendly way of updating your game lol

Sorry another stupid question, because I am a Steam new player: How do you know when it has finished downloading? Does it say anywhere?

If it's downloading in idle mode (i.e. you didn't launch the game), it will display something like "1 item complete" on the bottom. Easiest way to find out is to launch the game, if it's not dowloading anything, it's finished.

(bangs head on desk) Steam does have some benefits to it and I'm not exactly a hater, but I seriously dislike how difficult it is to avoid an automatic update. I didn't realize a new patch was even near ready til I tried to play the game and SKSE exploded.

It's a DRM method for singleplayer games basically, but for multiplayer games it's really useful. And I can buy games 20% cheaper than in stores in my country even without any special sales. :D
If you're using SKSE, just launch Steam in offline mode everytime, there's a reason why this was implemented after all.

Is there any way to avoid the automatic update?

Now it's stopping me from playing the game for 15 minutes or more... :-(

Just a note to tell you of my experience. Yesterday, I turned Steam downloads off and also selected Play Offline. Today, I have not launched Steam or the game yet and came to this forum. Whilst reading this thread, I received a popup message that said "Steam has finished downloading" or something to that effect.

Now, I have also turned off Steam as a startup device in msconfig. I don't know how in the world this download could have happened!!! I see in the steam directory two .blob files with todays date... one is clientregistry.blog and the other is appupdatestats.blob

Urgh! How frustrating! Any ideas why this happened with all the options turned off?

Are you sure you were in Offline Mode? Steam prompts you with the possibility to go online if you start it from offline mode but with an internet connection present.

That's why one needs to backup the exe after every update. ;)

Somewhere, someone will have uploaded the 1.4.27-exe, get it and play the game like nothing happened.

I just came across this:

That's all. The new killmoves are very nice.

I'm sure I did not get prompted to go online. I'm also sure that once I start Steam today, that my settings will say that I'm playing Online, but I did not make that selection.
