Looting/Inventory System; also, loot stashes

Yeah, except instead of only being able to place one marker, be able to place as many as desired, along with a list of what is in each stash.

Why can't you just pick it up, take it home, and put it in your locker?

I like the idea, but I doubt that you would get the option to list all of your items. Just write them down. Or better yet remember where you put things.

Too much weight?

And might not realize/decide you want it until later.

the only non-vital loot worth picking up was cigarettes and booze and those didn't weigh much. How much were you already carrying that 300 pounds of capacity wasn't enough. Maybe you could trim down your inventory or make specific loot runs to where your short-term stashes are with fast travel and bring it all home.

Wait... what is his second idea exactly? I was thinking the idea was to add extra map markers. Maybe even ones that you could fast travel to. Is that not it?

Extra guns, ammo, pieces of armor, etc. Considerable weight there, and if you just wiped out a warehouse full of baddies, you couldn't necessarily carry it all without multiple trips back and forth, and if during your trips back and forth you happen upon more stuff to pick up, it would take that much longer to transport it all.

Or maybe they could just give us a little red wagon we could pull behind us that would hold several more hundred lbs' worth of stuff, lol

Boy, for a guy who's got a thing against scavenging, you certainly have a looter mindset.

My 2nd idea was indeed to be able to add more map markers (specifically for stashes) to the PipBoy map. Being able to fast-travel to them is a good idea too! But I also suggested including a list with each marker of all the loot left there. That way if I left something behind and end up looking for it later, I can just check each list rather than have to re-scour the wasteland looking for something I came across previously but forgot where it is. And I see no need (or logic, really) as someone else suggested in making the gamer write down their own list of what's in each stash; the computer could handle that easily.

I would, I have (like when I eliminated Fort Bannister), and I will in New Vegas too.

The computer could, yes. But you have to remember that this is coming out on consoles also. It's not very easy to type out a list of things on the console. And I doubt that they would add any feature to one version of the game that wouldn't be in the other.

I never said I was against loot. I just don't find it much fun to have to search through all kinds of extra containers and end up with mostly junk. Tracking what you've found and limiting some of the endless repetition is what I'm suggesting here. If it were an obvious given that only garbage was going to be found in crates and barrels, etc, with no exceptions, then fine, I could skip all of those and just loot wall safes, desks, lockers and corpses. But that didn't always seem to be the case.

Mass Effect came out for both the PC and consoles, and they were able to offer up a list of items found after each encounter. It's not much of a jump from that to save that list for later reference whilst checking the marker of a loot stash.

...It's a nuclear post-apocalypse. There is going to be an over abundance of junk and debris.

JUST USE FAST TRAVEL. Sure it took me five trips to carry home all my loot from The Pitt, but it was worth it.

That's fine, but not all players create characters with maximum strength, or use power armor for that matter either. The concept of stashing loot *really* isn't that far-fetched. And honestly, I'd love to see someone try to lug 300lbs worth of stuff for miles on end under the hot desert sun.

Sure. And that same junk and debris rarely ends up in barrels and crates in such a scenario because, frankly, it isn't worth the effort of storing that stuff in the first place. So why should my only reward for searching barrels and crates be to find useless junk?

I didn;t say that there couldn't be a list. I said that I doubt that you'd be able to type it yourself.

See, you've illustrated the exact point I'm trying to make. You use fast travel because otherwise hauling all that stuff back and forth in real time is, to you, boring and repetitive (or at least inconvenient). I find similar inconvenience in having an endless supply of crates and stuff to rummage through, with junk being the most likely reward. Just make a "fast search" mode, like your "fast travel" mode. It's 6 of one, half-dozen of the other.

That's fine! I never intended that players would type the list themselves. I envisioned that any marker classified as a "stash" would automatically list the content of that stash. You probably need a menu choice in the game to "create stash" and then drag all the items to it that you wanted stashed. Simple.

No it isn't. If you know only junk is there, why are you still searching? Moreover, there are often keys or surprises in some containers, that you should have to look for, to create fun.

Because I *don't* know its only junk in those containers until I actually search them. And I don't want to have to search through an endless supply of crates to find that one "surprise". The other Fallouts had a much better handle on the volume of searching one had to do. Bethesda just took their endless-supply-of-crap model from Oblivion and used it for Fallout. The same reason you don't want to have to manually walk back and forth between the same places when you're transporting loot or whatever is essentially the same reason I don't want to have to search every create I come across--it's boring, and repetitive. It's the same principle either way.

You don't have to search every crate. You potentially get a bonus when you do. All you want is for the game to hold your hand and give you things for no work at all. Take a hike.

I want to kill dudes but it's inconvenient having them shoot back and ruin my suit! It would be much more fun if they just sat there and let me shoot them! If you guys enjoy shooting guys and getting hurt while doing it that's fine for you, but I don't find it fun so I think the entire mechanics of the game should be changed to support my minority viewpoint!
