Hellooooo! ^_^

*reads this page*

Egad! It seems like several of us MIA forum-goers are returning. I wonder what's bringing us all back here so suddenly?

Yeeeaaaah, I dunno why, but I stopped coming here for awhile... But I've decided to pop back in, at least for little while, and see what the news is. How's everybody doing? Have I missed anything over the past... 4 months?

I'm doing... okay. Schools fine. My grades are okay, though I'm not doing too great in my History classes. Its actually starting to get a bit discouraging. I've met a bunch of new friends recently, though, and we've been playing Dungeons and Dragons and other various RPGs and video games together. My girlfriend and I are still together, and she's one of the few things that keeps me in high spirits these days. My home life is... bleh. Lets just say I enjoy every second my on-campus living.

Bit of bad news, though. My grandmother is... well... fixin' to croak, to be blunt. Like... today, or tommorrow, depending on how resiliant she is. I actually hitched a ride home yesterday to see her one last time and say my final goodbyes, since everyone said she'd probably be deceased by the time I came home for the weekend. But, I suppose I'm not too upset about the whole thing. She's in terrible condition, with almost no lucid thought the majority of the time. If anything, I'm kinda happy her suffering will be over soon. :nope: I'm pretty concerned about my mom, though. She's not coping very well, I think... *sigh*

At any rate, I'm sure its not polite to barge in and start complaining to everyone, so I'll shut up now. So, what have I missed?

What do you find hard about History? Sorry it may seem trivial to ask a question about your History classes when you have other, more important things happening but I don't really have any advice about those things.

I dunno. I just do my best, and still screw up. I got a 69 on my American history test, even though I paid attention in class and actually studied for it for once. I get better grades on tests in other classes I don't even study for! D:

In my WWI course, I had to write a report. Well, I didn't do too well on it, since I was only given a week - during which I was very busy and stressed - and the article I was assigned to read and write about didn't have enough information on the specific subject I chose to discuss. I didn't realize this until a few hours of work, though... <_<

Then, when I brought it to class, everyone was asked what they thought about it. Apparently, there are some people in my WWI course with an attitude about it that rubs me the wrong way. Like they have a feeling of superiority since they're smart enough to be in there, and they have to show it... They didn't just rip me a new one because I didn't accomplish what I was supposed to do correctly, apparently. They went so far as to complain about my writing style and diction, which as a creative writing minor, I took personally. :(

Then I find out that my state is cutting the education budget. By like... a lot. They're firing a lot of teachers, and even reducing the funding for Special Education, of all things. And to make it worse, not only are they firing teachers, but I also discovered that there is already a surplus of History and English teachers, and its almost impossible for them to find a job in this state now... and I've been working towards becoming one or the other of those. So I've either got to go out of state to get a job, which I DO NOT WANT TO DO, or I can wing it and pray to God I find work after I graduate, or I can rethink my plans and maybe go into Psychology or something.

I've considered trying my hand at writing, but its difficult to actually find the time and concentration to sit and write. Plus, I've got too many ideas, and several diversions in the plot lines, so its hard to actually figure out how the stories should go. And, and its also incredibly hard to get published these days. Unless you write about vampires. Or smut. Or both. And none of my ideas currently or ever will have anything to do with either of those things. Yaaaay...

Overall, this whole week has left me feeling kinda discouraged...

What part of North Carolina are you moving to?

Damn, I guess I missed this. Well I moved to Charlette, got a small apartment in Uptown. Its nice, I hate going outside, but at least I'm keeping up with school for the most part this time around. :)

I had to write an essay today about my role model it was going to write about Lucario, but since it was a state test I wrote about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Graffin instead.

Hm. I'm feeling better after a nice evening...

A recently made friend basically kidnapped me, and dragged me off to a comic book store. He knew I liked 40K and RPGs, and he figured it would lift my spirits. Sure enough, it did. SO. MUCH. WARHAMMAAAAA!! O___O

So, I picked up three Chaos Terminators for my little bro, normally 15 bucks each, for 10 dollars altogether. ^_^

This friend is also working on being an English teacher. I didn't know this until I mentioned my History woes. He informs me that he's moving out of state, and actually going to Texas when he graduates. I asked what the system there is like, and he said that a starting salary for teachers is 35K. Starting. In Mississippi, you're lucky to get over 30K anywhere, starting or long-term. And he said they actually raise your salary the longer you work there. Which sounds nifty. Plus, the standard of living is about the same as Mississippi, and the weather is about the same, minus the humidity. Which is great!

So yeah. Nice deal on 40K, and out-of-state work may not be that bad of an idea after all. Overall, a decent evening...

I'm playing football (American) again, after regretting my decision of quitting last year. We've just been doing some off season stuff right now. I had "Pride Day" today and it's every other Thursday where we have to be in the gym at 6 am and do a bunch of sprints and leg workouts. It's been....fun.

*Phew*

I just finished submitting my application for college. Unlike the last college I was going to go to, this one checks out in all areas. It's almost certain I'll be getting in, not because I think I'm Mr. Perfect or anything, but because they basically accept anyone, and 75% of the people they accept drop out. Students get a chance to learn, and the college makes money even if they drop out, so it's a good strategy.

Anyway, even though I've been decided for a while now, when it came time to select a major I hovered over which of two to pick for like 5 minutes until I chose the one I was going to go with anyway. I just kept imagining how different things would be if I took one major or the other. For those curious, I chose Animation and Visual Effects.

Oh, and the college is in California, in the San Fransisco area, and I'll be going there in June.

I just wanted to share a very stressful but somehow triumphant experience on Friday.

I was on work trip to Italy for review meeting in Friday, and we were with my colleague's car. Against all odds it was snowing like hell when we had to drive back north, and it took us 1 hour 17 mins for the first 12 kilometers! It was chaotic, slippery, wet, snowing like heck, the highways were one big traffic jam.

I am by no means a confident driver in winter conditions, and not very aggressive driver in any case. However, between the choice of forcing the other guy stop for a nap and having to drive all the way, I volunteered to drive fir a bit because it is fair to share the burden.

So... I had to drive this unfamiliar, huge vehicle with 230 horsepowers translating into uncannily vigorous powers of acceleration, in pit-black night with heavy sleet, among other things though infamous Alpine tunnel of St Gotthard that had that horrible blaze some years ago...

But, yea, I made it. And I was good enough as to let the other guy nap, as opposed to stay awake in horror. :)

Doesn't the game have a recording function?

Most don't and those are the ones that I want to record (i.e. not DF, my other games)

Well, things progress smoothly. I've gone thru my checklist of organizations and people to make note of my moving, so's as to have all my papers in order once it happens, so's I won't have to do battle with the bureaucrats once more. Now, all I gotta do is wait. And of course, do my homew?rk for school. PHP is causing me problems. I was in a bit of a state during the two days on the subject, and picking up afterwards is a tad hard. Moreso 'cos I don't know why any of the many parts of the whole thing aren't working, hopefully my teacher can shed some light on the subject. Think I got a pretty firm grasp of the other stuff, 'tho. Also managed to finish another page for the comic, feeling good about things, there's progress being made. Haven't really managed to get rid of my constant fatique and drowsiness, but I'm hoping to do something about that once I move. A weekend coma, perhaps.

Three more weeks...Plenty of time for things go awry, eh? ^_^

i know, right?! it's kinda weird coming back after being gone so long. thanks for remembering me! :)

'Allo there! Welcome back. Seeing an 'old face' as it were, stirs up memories and begs question about a whole lot of others gone from this place. :(

On that note, I already have three offers (out of the five I selected using the UCAS system). Yes, I want to study in the UK. They are reasonable offers, and I should be able to reach their score with little problems with some effort. If you're interested, I will be studying Astrophysics (and if that is not a stand-alone option, I will have Astrophysics and Physics).

Now I'm working on my Theory of Knowledge essay (I am in an International Baccalaureate school, of which ToK is a subject. It basically has to do with questioning knowledge). It is horrible and I have to hand it in on Thursday...

Ooh, I'm joining the Uni application club :P I applied to Durham, Sheffield, Warwick, York and Loughbrough to study Chemistry. I have had offers from Warwick and Loughbrough and I have an interview at Sheffield on Thursday :)

The bad news is the huge cuts in Government spending on University which means that places are going to be more competitive than last year and 20% more people have already applied. Apparently offers which have already been made could be upped, which would really screw everyone over :(

Apart from that slightly stressful cloud looming over me at the minute, I'm pretty happy :) Amongst the endless 18th Birthday Parties that I get to attend plus my gaming and TESF fixes I'm still managing to keep my studies going well, plus I apparently have a secret admirer at the minute which is always nice :D

But yeah, hope all you lurkers are okay too :)

 Always nice to see you again!

-------

Nothing much happening with me in life in general... which is nice, because if things aren't normal, they're usually going wrong. Two labs to write this week, but they shouldn't take up too much time (I hope). Weather forecasts predict a snow storm on Wednesday, so that might be interesting. In art class, we started building our towers out of pieces of balsa wood and hot glue. It's nice to have a no-brainer class. ^_^ Not a great use of my tuition money, but at least I know I don't like working with wire and with balsa wood. Time will only tell if I like clay or plaster... I think I'm more of a Play-Dough kind of person. At least I'm getting one of my distribution requirements out of the way.
