I made a pure mage....

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:13 am

I have been seeingg posts about destruction magic and how it is useless and I have always favored that school of magic over all others (besides restoration) so I made an Altmer pure mage who uses only destruction magic. I only focused on leveling up magic and I encahnted all of my items to boost my magicka so I now have about 528 magicka (I am level 21 now). I kill dragons in a few firebolts, I killed Morkei with like 6 fireballs, and I can just obliterate anything while barely losing magicka. Honestly I dont know why you guys are saying its incredibly weak. Damage also depends on what enemy you are fighting and their resistances.

I ONLY focused on upgrading magicka and I have enchantments that boost my magicka. So for those talking about running out of " mana" or "ammo", I do not have that problem.

You're only level 21, that explains it. Try being pure Destruction at level 40.

You use swords as well to supplement the horrid destruction, there you have it.

In this game you pretty much have to have some other skill for destruction to be viable and that is insane considering destruction is the damaging magic school.

Yes but its difficult to rely on it alone. You do some distance damage while you are away great, then you get the big boost in damage with the sword. I play a spell sword too for roleplaying reasons. I am just saying you have to use another skill for it to be useful and it should not be that way.

Destruction may be a powerful tool, but you cannot do the type of damage you are saying unless your on Novice or something. You can faceroll anything with destruction, you just have to stunlock them with spam impact. The spells that are able to do anything more than shave HP cost massive amounts of magicka. If you use so little magicka like you claim, you have rather high enchanting or got really lucky on drops for reduced magicka cost.

We need spell creation and the old spells back for more customization.

I have difficulty relying on it for damage it's much easier to just summon 2 dremora lords and have a fight last a few seconds instead of spamming firebolt I mean I don't even have enough magicka to spam that many spells

From what I've heard, you tend ot max out your damage for destruction in the last twenties (when you have the best spell and the perks)....but the trouble is, thats not the end of the level scaling.....from that point on your continue ot fight stronger enemies andi t actually becomes bad to level up more.

Thats the problem with destruction....there is not +destruction damage enchantments unlike weapon skills....so you specificly capped at a ceratin level.

another problem is spells do not scale to level a level 1 will do the same damage as a level 100 and how other skills have perks to increase damage by 100% I think the reduce cost perks should also include increase damage by 25% in the perk

which basically mean unlike weapons, there are only 3 worthwhile destruction spells at top level...the three master spells.......preventing you from playing your way.

It's great if, and only if, my character has room to maneuver.

The split second you put him in an enclosed space with an enemy he gets torn to pieces. Duel wielding frostbite in those situations should be all good, but it isn't because DPS is too little. Likewise runes don't do enough damage. At the moment, frost magic doesn't actually appear to have any slow effect whatsoever.

We should have spell creation to fix this, we should also not have to have magic reductions and impact for destruction to stay viable and useful.

Destruction is as viable as any style for 70% of the game, the only letdow nis that it is the only damage style that caps, where all the others can be improved much higher.
