Marine Fatally Shot

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:25 am

We'll never know if it was fueled by race or not, because he'll say it wasn't until his death bed. Obviously the booze was a big factor, as a sober cop wouldn't put 13 shots in anybody if they were unarmed. Still, the race card fits awfully well in this situation. And having grown up in New Jersey and seeing local news from NYC I've seen enough stories about bad cops to not think for a second it wasn't fueled by race. I admit I'm jumping to conclusions but booze-fueled racism sounds like a good reason why he used such a large number of bullets.

Let's wait until we find out the race of the cop then. Also, I've seen studies that claim that people (including but not limited to cops) that haven't been in a shooting before, tend to keep pulling the trigger until the gun is empty. Then they look surprised that the noise has stopped.

Could it possibly be that because when it does happen it's more publicized than crimes committed by those who are not cops?

Yup

Yup a point there too , shootings happen all the time . Not trying to downsize the event of the crime.

Yeah....this particular cop was scum.

But I have to agree with the one poster....jumping to conclusions and throwing around "racist-hate crime" is something that annoys the hell out of me. Why must people presume things based on nothing.

Not to mention it's Baltimore so there's a good chance the cop was black too.

Guys, this is serious. I don't see why Peace Bullet would put a picture of a Lucario in this instance.

At this point I don't see anything that would point towards race as a factor

It could have been race but it seems a lot more like poor judgment, alcohol, and firearms make for just as deadly a mix

Of course everyone will go on believing it was a crime that was fueled by race whether or not it was a factor.

Because the world isn't a place full of peace and love, and because hate crimes by cops happen too often for comfort? I'll admit I'm wrong when we find out the guys race. And I know that even if he was white he may not be racist, and Yasgur had a point about first time shooters. But people presume incidents like this are hate crimes because they far too often are.

Is there any way we could keep from dragging this very public matter through the streets of the internet.

Yeah...another thing that bugs me is generalizations. Like taking one incident to claim "cops are scum". There's scum in all fields in all circles....but the majority of people are not. The majority of cops are not.

Incident should be viewed individually.

Well people who "presume" need to stop presuming. It's not an objective thought process.

Agreed

the majority of the cops I know (I've known several people who have become police and one of my friends dad was an officer) are fairly nice people. They aren't crooked they go about their job just like anyone else and then they take more abuse by people who just think they're a bunch of racist-donut-eating pigs

Keep that in mind next time you have to call the police because something is happening where you need a police officer

Yes, my partner is a police officer and we love each other very much. She never carries her gun when off-duty, never mind drinking alcohol.

I've been drunk plenty of times, but I have never wanted to shoot anyone.
It's easy to get pissed off, sure. Maybe you wanna throw some knuckles, or talk a lot of smack. Spit, drool, get red-faced.
You don't shoot anyone unless you have some serious issues, or you're a murderer. This guy had a murderer in him before this incident, I guarantee it. It makes me wonder how this guy was when he was on duty. How many victims are out there, of his unlawful rage? Cops are supposed to be highly trained, professional, and highly disciplined. This guy was none of the above, so why was he on the force? I am sick and tired of incompetent police brutality with no real consequences.
To me, it was one of two things: jealousy or racism. Maybe he thought the girl he was with was giving him googly eyes, and he had to put an end to it.
There's no reason to lose good soldiers over crap like this.

No thanks. Presuming is a part of the learning process. I've seen and heard about a lot of bad/racist cops in my life and it's taught me not to trust cops. To jjleon_2, cops have never been there when I needed them, often coming far too late when me or my family has needed them. Most cops are good, yes, and are trying to protect you, but presuming is exactly why I'm not going to end up like the poor guy the topic is about. Sadly he was an off-duty cop and the guy likely didn't know he was a cop so he couldn't have known to get the [censored] away from him.

Do I sound weird for not trusting cops? I suppose so. But I have my reasons, and will continue to presume all I like.

I'm not too sure what you're trying to say here, doesn't fit in the context of what he said. Unless I'm missing something.

Anyway, it's a well known fact that guns + alcohol + guy with gun feeling threatened, never turns out well.

In a lot of US cities, NYC is one of them...I think...somebody correct me if I'm wrong...cops are required to carry when they're off duty. In other words, they're never really off duty. But the thought of drinking and being armed scares me.

Not to me, but then again I'm black, and the vast majority of us just plain don't trust cops anyway.

@Yasgur- From what I remember an actual cop telling us back in grade school, police officers here don't carry weapons while on duty. Of course, the laws could've changed since then.
