Massive bias towards NCR in the game

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:06 pm

Just saw this, Canyon Runner is a Legion NPC I encountered just today who is part of the shortest quest I've seen, he's just the "slavemaster" of Cottonwood Cove and you can pay him some caps to free some slaves, and when you pay him it starts the quest and you just walk into the quest, initiate dialogue and free the slaves and end the quest. I myself was wondering why he was named such, since his name is so different from other legionnaires and he seemed more... worked on than others? He sounded like he had a different voice actor than the average Legionnaire.

No spoiler but that quest is actually just a part of a somewhat longer side quest you can perform mid - late game.

The Enclave's overall mission was to help and to keep peace, they were just more brutal in doing it.
And the Brotherhood were more than happy to vaporize anyone who would stand against them, they have a long history of killing for their precious energy tech.
The Enclave is definitely leaning to the bad side and the BoS to the good side but Bethesda was smart and do what they always do and don't include a total "good" or "evil" faction, there's a reason why you don't recieve karma for killing one side or the other.

Did you get the CE?
In the card deck the entire... Clover(?) set, from Two to Ace are all Legion members, and Ulysses was on those cards.

Here's a picture of the entire clover set: http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8021/dsc02341v.jpg

It's not good quality but everyone there are Legion members.
Cato is a trader for the legion.
Siri on the other hand I have no idea who it is.
Neither do I know who the hell Canyon Runner is. Probably another cut character, I haven't found him.

Someone already mentioned Canyon Runner. Siri is a female slave in the Fort; she's in front of a "kitchen" near Caesar's tent. You get to talk to hear, advise her about herbs, and that's that.

I believe (in fact i'm almost sure) by the "good" side he was saying BoS, in which he's entirely right. At least in FO3 the Brotherhood is pretty badass, the NCR is super lame in NV.

Yeah, I was talking about the whole BoS vs. Enclave thing.

I felt there was a big bias for NCR in the game. I WANTED to help Mr. House, despite the fact that I didn't like him, but I would have been forced to kill the Brotherhood (which I was a member of), so I couldn't. I just couldn't bring myself to kill the Brotherhood for no reason other than Mr. House viewed them as competition. I wasn't about to help slavers (aka the Legion), and even if I wanted to, I couldn't since I was ambushed by them very early on and therefore vilified since pretty much day 1. The LAST thing I would want to do would be to run New Vegas by myself, and I had already pissed off everyone else by completing most of Mr. House's missions. NCR was my ONLY viable option, though I desperately wanted New Vegas to remain independent.

I have to admit I'm a bit confused. Why wouldn't there be bias for the NCR, at least in terms of places, people, etc... They've been running the area for years, so obviously they will have more territory, cities, and people under them. The Legion is a new player trying to get a foothold so obviously there won't be much opportunity from them, unless they had added the area on the other side of the river. For better or worse the majority of the missions are going to be pro-NCR.

My only problem was they way it plays out, you could almost do the majority of the quests, save it right before you have to pick a faction, and then just play all the different endings from there.

i also wish that there were a couple more places that showed the civilian side of the Legion controlled areas, and more quests that showed the legion in a positive light.
Are there Legion civilians? I don't know anything about their backstory other than what is brought up in the game, but from the game I got the impression that they were all fighters through and through.

Anyway mohamed612, you do get a lot more Legion quests once you've been to see Benny. But there aren't really any Legion sidequests like there are with the NCR. There's maybe two or three that I can think of lol. The NCR have hundreds.

And yeah I agree Bruiser, the lack of Legion activity does make sense in the context of the game since they're gearing up to invade. It would have been MUCH better if the game had started during the invasion. That way the map would be split in half so that 50% of it would be NCR territory and 50% of it would be Legion Territory. As opposed to the 99/1 split we have now.

But as I said, since the area is so pro-NCR there should be more sabotage and infiltration missions for Legion.
There doesn't need to be more Legion locations, outposts or towns, just more quests and NPC's at already existing places.

Let's see here....

23 side quests for the NCR
4 side quests for the Legion.

What's wrong with this picture?

You can actually drive some pro-NCR Mission into Con-NCR....like "The Lucky Old Sun" can be pro-NCR or pro-Follower. Just because you got the mission from NCR doesn't mean it would be pro-NCR.....

I would have been nice for a bit more Legion involvement there though. I can't think of any examples in NCR quests where you're able to subvert the mission in a way that directly favours the Legion, or even allows you to interact with the Legion.

Except maybe that interrogation subquest, that one covers the interaction part. I'm not sure if you can help the guy out though, I've never tried that.

You forget that it has been long established both in-game and before it even came out that the NCR and the Legion are the two largest and most primary groups in the game. There NEEDS to be more Legion quests, and the abrupt size of the NCR quests (both side quest and main storyline) compared to the Legion ones only makes it worse.

I agree there should be more Legion Quest; however, the game ain't bias to NCR once you chop the Followers and Crimson Caravan off them, as well as how a portion of pro-NCR mission can end up con-NCR.

Just because you can do a quest in a way to spite the NCR. It's no longer a NCR side quest at all?

Let's phrase it a different way. There is a gross lack of content involving Caesar's Legion in New Vegas.

Eastcoast BOS and bad ass in the same sentence is not right.

Back on topic: NCR should have more of a foothold. Caesar's Legion is a new player not only on the block, but in the history. NCR has been around for more than 40 years. (since before 2242)

I don't think it's bias, I think its intentional. I think it's supposed to be like "Oh look, NCR....again." so that you get the idea that they are trying viciously to control Vegas as their own. Luckily for Mr. House, I drove them out of Vegas. :blush2:

Another reason is that the NCR's perspective is more than likely what is going to be considered canon. So maybe they made more of an effort with the NCR since they're intended to be the "victorious " faction.

Even though it hurts CL and House playthroughs.

But a huge number of NCR quests aren't about fighting the Legion, they're about dealing with raiders and keeping order in NCR controlled territory. You got to kill the fiends, you have to help them get their troops in shape, you have to get supplies to refugees, you have to investigate missing supplies, etc.

Caesar's Legion doesn't have those problems. Raiders are afraid of the Legion. Undisciplined troops are killed or made an example of. Refugees are made into slaves. Anyone stupid enough to steal from the Legion gets a vacation on the cross.

The lack of Legion quests shows that the Legion is ruthlessly efficient and don't need outside help as much as the NCR.

One thing too, some of the best vendors are NCR strictly, like the gal at the 188 trading post and the quartermaster at the Hooverdam, and the chick at the Mojave Outpost... a few others too that sell me my much needed ammo, so it's either wait until i've gotten to lvl 30 and gotten uber amounts of the kinds of ammo I want, or just strictly buy from the Gun Runners, which don't sell every thing, and only sell meager amounts of some types of ammo...

You're kind of screwed if you go legion, I mean everyone hates you except for maybe the Great Khans but lol they svck. Also, companions, Arcade Gannon and Boone won't even look your way or even acknowledge you, I think they are two of the best IMO

One plus though for a guns character.... plenty of NCR to kill for guns and things to sell for caps, plenty of spare ammo for your brush gun LOL.

Another thing I was thinking about... the NCR svckS, I mean, GOD you practically have to hand them the war on a silver platter and even then they still svck. all of their soldiers pee themselves whenever they see just one legionary, most of their soldiers are just newbie recruits that die in 2 seconds, all of their communications networks have problems, they are not disciplined, they give you nothing for the herculean labors you do for them... sheesh, at least house, yesman, and CL have something of a spine for pete's sake.

That's why i've yet to get my NCR trophies for the main quest, I refuse to work with a bunch of weak, whiny, worthless little dogs that are just good to be slayed by my super sledge. Only the Veterans put of something of a fight, even then, I got massacred by those dudes with the balistic fists... I mean like 3 hits dead.... I had to get clip after clip emptied into me by like 9 NCR dudes and still I was perfectly fine, in a Bounty Hunter's coat lol. I think there are like 4 CL sidequests and like 20 NCR ones, not counting all of the unmarked quests

Why would obsidian be biased towards the weakest, spinless faction in game?.... They're not even relatively good... they are just greedy and opportunistic. They are basically a huge army of scavengers, you see the legion and house make most of their stuff but the NCR just is good at bullying people and annexing their crap for their own.

Bottom line for me, personally, and you can disagree totally, I think the NCR is the weakest faction out of all of the major ones by far.

*Walks out of vault in F3*
*Heads to first town around*
*Is given option to nuke said town and receive money and a rather nice place to live because of it*

Sooo... bias towards?

Points down to the MQ line, forcing you to side with the "white knights" and save humanity by making pure water. No option what so ever to side with the "bad guys".

If the NCR was more competent then they wouldn't need you to do anything for them.

The reason why there are so many NCR quests is because they're so bloated and incompetent.

That's why there are fewer Legion quests. The Legion can take care of all the problems that the NCR has without outside help.

Out of curiousity, did anyone notice if I posted in this thread?

I'm pretty sure I did, but I've had some problems with my broadband connection, so don't know if the post stuck. I haven't received a message that my post got culled, so I'm a bit curious about it...

Thanks....
