Massive bias towards NCR in the game

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:36 pm

Out of curiousity, did anyone notice if I posted in this thread?

I'm pretty sure I did, but I've had some problems with my broadband connection, so don't know if the post stuck. I haven't received a message that my post got culled, so I'm a bit curious about it...

Thanks....

This forum eats post occasionally.... at least Australian ones.

It would have been a better set up if you were allowed to help the legion systematically take territory from the NCR, creating friendly quest-giving settlements every time.

NCR isn't incompetent, they're overbloated. They're too large for now. Legion can control its troops well enough. And I wouldn't say the troops are incompetent wusses, just green. Some of the NCO's (non-commisioned officers like sergeants) will kill you hard. And the rangers are to be feared. I kind of miss how they were anti-slaver in FO2, but times change.

I remember in FO2 hearing how im the past NC Rangers actually have had bounties on them. But back on topic. Rangers could definitely be of huge aid.

I have only glanced through the parts of the Guide about Caesars portion and there does seem to be quite a number of quests for that faction. Not as many as the NCR. However if you look at Map Resources, not as much area is given to the Legion, so it kind of makes sense that there would be less to do. Plus, the NCR is somewhat established, where the Legion are kind of the Interlopers, in this game.

I actually look forward to siding with the Legion on a future play through. However if you focus on the NCR or don't work for the Legion, they really have little to do in the game, compared to what interactions you have with the NCR as you try to ignore them.

My real issue is that chosing legion cuts you off from so much important content.

Half the trading areas on the map become hostile, you lose access to the Mojave Outpost, to the Crimson Caravans, ect. You lose access to 2 companions at the least in the course of their quest chain, including the best in the game quite early on.

The only practical way to get very far in a legion playthrough is to play through half the game first and then go to the legion you can't follow the quest chain naturally.

Yup, in agreeing to help the legion there are so any cons and not enough pros. And seriously, why did they cut the legion companion?

I just don't find the NCR all that interesting.

Having a Legion companion would tempt me into a CL playthrough. As it is, I'd just lose the possibility of having certain companions.

Don't forget Arcade, He leaves if you side with CL.

Leaving you with fou- Maybe three companions (Rex, ED-E, And Lily..) because VERONICA MIGHT leave.

I really hope they have a big DLC that fleshes out the Legion.

Indeed. If they don't plan on that they shouldn't bother with any major DLCs. The story's already told.

Technically you can keep him by your side by selling him to the Legion, or tell him to fight as Remnant.

Well, doesn't the game take place in NCR territory? Therefore, after the NCR pushed the Legion back, it's not surprising you don't see very many Legion outposts. Definitely not surprising you don't see any Legion towns or cities.

However, I was surprised you can't do more quests for the Legion.

Fully agree.
Legion has way too little to do in this game.
I don't care if it's on the west side of the river, it would mean even more stuff to do really.
Infiltration quests, sabotage quests, putting high ranking NCR members on court marshal by framing them.
Tons of stuff could have been done for the Legion even if they only have 3 major camps.
But instead we have the game always poking us in the head and whispering to our ears to help the NCR.

And not only isn't there enough sidequests but also NPC's to talk to.
There's like, what? A dozen named Legion NPC's?

And then we have Ulysses, the only Legion companion, cut.
The only true legion companion we were suppose to get was cut from the game.

I really hope they have a big DLC that fleshes out the Legion.

Whats worst is that the BoS almost has as many quests than the Legion...

Fallout 3 was the same way, huge bias to the "Good" side.

At least in Fallout 3 I can end up with Evil Karma. In New Vegas I am having a hard time getting to Neutral.

True. You need to ignore ghouls and Fiends, or kill and steal everyone and everything you meet.

Not just Legion, but Mr. House too could have used some side quests. Since victor has gone through all the trouble of following you around, he could as well have given you a quest or two for every region you reach. The way it is now, siding with Mr. House is weird because you did many quests for NCR but none for House.

Hopefully, Obsidian adds quests for other two sides in DLC's... hell, add those quests and enable some minor factions to become supreme in Vegas and I would buy GOTY edition.

What I think really missing is starting your own gang once you have met Yesman. With all the "spare" companions and characterful NPCs around Vegas I am pretty sure a "Player Gang" is feasible.

Yeah I noticed this bias myself. The Legion despite being almost a parody of the glory of Rome they are the most interesting thing I've seen in fallout in ages.
And they have what four quests attached to them? This game just plain seems unfinished never mind the bugs. Its well written but it seems like they released
half a game. More Legion stuff definitely needs to be released in DLC.

I wish they'd have a totally ruthless villian like they had in Suikoden 2 with Luca Blight that would have taken over Caesar with footage of them going into towns and slaughtering civilians and children.. they could have even made it so that the player was destined to be the leader of the nation who wipes out the enemy.. would have made it interesting.
