Missing tha Freaky Deaky

I was always dissapointed that the worlds were so non-post apocalyptic. I already felt this with fallout 3 and with new vegas it got even worse. ( yes yes the bombs whatever ). The worlds feel more like cute playgrounds than post apocalyptic ruins. I guess I should go back to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

What feel do you mean, then? Personal feeling of being responsible? The feel of world being harsh and nasty? The game not responding to the action in any significant way doesn't help in that account either (not to mention the quite asinine use of the nuke - not as plot device of sorts, but as subject for laughs and momentary feeling being a badass and eyecandy) - the way the game interacts with the players choices is a major factor in creating a feel to the game, and more precisely to an RPG. But if what you said floats your boat, good for you too. :tops:

It was probably Three Dog reminding me on the radio of the good/bad things I'd done, and thinking to myself "yeah I'm amazing" or "yeah I'm a bastard". I tend to play with the radio on most of the time and in NV, as mentioned before, the news broadcasts don't feel like I've affected the world around me. That's obviously just me though, and things I take notice of in the game. *shrug*

fallout has never been a post-apocalypse simulator. in fact, it's always been a western in a post-apocalyptic setting.
so yeah, if it's that survival thing you're after you should go back to stalker.

Wild Wasteland isn't wild at all, its Missing!

I expected alot of the freaky deaky / funny stuff to come out of this perk, and so far only a broken star-cap quest is found after 200+ hours of playthrough.

Have to agree with the op, Wild Wasteland was a dud.

it's just not true. you hear as much about your deeds in the radio as in fallout 3. the difference is, that you aren't mentioned namely.
i think you just miss a bit of fame, huh? ;)

i think some people are mixing up funny and freaky lol

but i will admit i forgot about that kid at tha 188 in NV with tha contraption on his noggin...that kid was awesome weird

and characters like that guy in novac talking about commies are gonna go to tha moon and paint it pink hahahaha yes indeed he was funny.....funny...but not really freaky

and being havent mentioned them..or have gone off on a tangent about story content...which wasnt tha idea here lol....but its ok...good for people to open lines of communication than to complain about post hijacking...i dont care talk away its awesome :D nice to see some people can tell tha difference between points made to open up conversation and have a discussion and not just seeing it as a complaint...especially being its not one

anyway being no one really mentioned them....what about harold and tha oasis ordeal? tha little lamp light kids? or tranquility lane?

Most of the kids (those under 25 now) were in grade school when those games came out. A large part of our members haven't been inculcated in the canon of Fallout (myself included—and I've been gaming since 1980.

But, I'm 20 and I played Fallout and Fallout 2 with a fine comb, Beat 1, Horrigan is a near impossible bastard to kill. I played tactics, then got bored of it and ditched it. :sadvaultboy:

That is simply not true. I got hurt in quite a few car explosions in New Vegas, some over by Nellis, and once by an old semi truck in the New Vegas ruins in a gunfight with Fiends.

Maybe I'm remembering wrongly, as it's been a while since I played FO3, but I'm sure there were aspects of the conversations you have with the slaves/slavers where they get huge chunks of history completely ass-backwards as there aren't many books around and most of the history is passed down by word of mouth.

Oh, and I never said I thought blowing up megaton was funny. But for me the ability to detonate a nuclear bomb in the first settlement you discover was amazing for deciding your characters morality so early in the game. Sure, powdergangers/goodsprings is similar, but going back to my comments in GNR you always felt that if you destroyed megaton the whole world would never let you forget it - it was forever a stain on your character. In NV, it's all a bit meh. You can help the convicts take over goodsprings and it gets mentioned on the radio, but does anyone else really care? No. Nobody know's you did it. It's just not important. Blowing up megaton (or not) felt important, a major decision that affected the feel of the whole game.

Problem is it isn't impactful because the morality system in FO3 is nearly useless and without real consequences or impact on the story. You can go pure evil and you still end up helping the BOS one way or the other.

And none of it mattered anyway since you were an invincible Demigod. Even on the rare occasion that you got into a tight spot, it was no problem because you have 75 stimpacks by level 10 (that INSTANTLY restore your health and fix damaged limbs).

FO3 was a fun game but even on the "very hard" setting, it was maybe a little more difficult than Backyard Baseball.

yep, almost got killed by one near sunset hq.
but there aren't any big parking sites cluttered with cars, so no mega-booms here.

I've played over 100 hours and have not seen one exploding car. So I would argue that it simply IS true that exploding cars are no where near as prominent. As far as them not being in the game at all, I was just taking the OP at his word when he complained about it. I hadn't thought about it either way.

Thanks for the heads up that there is some exploding vehicles in the game so now I know to avoid them. Cars that have been sitting for 200+ years blowing up is stupid to me and the limb damage would piss me off. :D

OH. Prominence? No, but they ARE in the game, but most of the cars you encounter are detonated, or crushed and so on.

Edit- The whole point of the explosions is that if the car has been intact for 200 years and is a NUCLEAR car, it will be unstable as all hell. That might be why that one undetonated Chryslus is sitting on the south end of The Strip.

This is absolutely correct, there are exploding vehicles in plenty of places. What I have found did change however, is how Easy it is to destroy them - it takes either more damage or a more precise shot to get the reactor going. In Fallout3 even a silenced .22 shot to the bumper would sometimes get the car smoking. I find even a hit from the Gobe will often not get a car in New Vegas smoking. I think this difference is what people are perceiving most of all, as NPCs just can't make them go boom quite as easily as they could in Fo3, so the chances of getting caught in an explosion are less in FNV.

Yeah New Vegas seems a far more tame place for the most part. I assume because the populations are higher (meaning less antisocial weirdos hanging out in the middle of no where) and far less militray installations and technology (an area the aliens wouldn't take interest in).

I did get assaulted by a gang of old ladies with rolling pins in Freeside once, that was pretty weird.

Again thanks for the heads up. Glad I haven't encountered this stupidity like I did around every flippin corner in FO3.

nastier looking super mutants...or os there some reason they r smoother looking in NV?

Super mutants in NV are basically a different species. They are leftovers from the Master's army instead of mutations from some vault experiment. So they look like Fallout 1 & 2 supermutants instead of the capital wasteland supermutants.

foulmouthed rotten kids!!!!! omg i miss lamplight

OMG I hated lamplight. Little invincible kids insult you and your only options are basically say "thank you may I have another" or "come on, I'm not THAT ugly and stupid "

If you aren't allowed to kill them at least let me insult them back.

oasis and herold...thatw as was just extra neato stuff like dunwich...NV doesnt seem to have anything like that

Harold was a throwback to earlier Fallouts, they gave us Marcus in NV.

There's just so much selectivity in this that it's somewhat annoying to read. If it's something weird in Fallout 3, it's "freaky deaky," whether it's silly or just abnormal. If it's weird in New Vegas, then it's "simply funny." As if a bunch of cannibal raiders setting up a casino and playing at high society isn't freakier than a cave full of kids. Or the fact that the principle antagonist (depending on your allegiance) is the Roman Legion.

because its missing tha option for both

Why would there be an option for both? The idea is that you're going to find something silly here if you have the Wild Wasteland Trait. If you don't have the Trait then they need to put something there instead or else whatever that thing is will just be an empty space. It wouldn't make sense to have both.

Anyway, this whole topic is going to be a bunch of opinion. To me there's just as much weirdness in NV as FO3, so I don't get the argument. The only thing I can think of is that some people are picking up on the fact that the look, feel, and tone in NV are slightly different than those in FO3 and are a little thrown by it. That's fine, but I can't agree with the argument that NV is somehow lacking weird and silly things compared to FO3. I would agree that NV contains fewer implausible things than FO3, but to me that's not the same thing and is an improvement.
