Missing tha Freaky Deaky

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:26 pm

i miss al tha off tha wall stuff from FO3...nothing in NV seems to feel like tha side intresting stuff in FO3...like...

gary...gary!!! ahhh gary....weirdo clone vault

holy salad fork!!! that thing is big!!! behemoths

nastier looking super mutants...or os there some reason they r smoother looking in NV?

many many areas..buildings or tunnels/sewers...filled with danger...ghouls and whatever...NV feels like a big top area and rinky dink caves and one basic sewer

creepy side stuff like Dunwich building...that was awesome...its like there is less horror...and thats what i loved about FO3 it was a variety of game types

brain dead and dull radio....i think many have posted on that but let me add...black mountain was tha fun radio...but it covers less area :(

foulmouthed rotten kids!!!!! omg i miss lamplight

a huge honkin aircraft carrier city...that was a trip

not tied to main story faction chinese....i loved thier presense in FO3

freaky flashes....like in dunwich but also in that one vault where ya saw dad and stuff

lack of trash....i miss that in FO3....trippin over junk all tha time and worring tha ghouls around tha corner heard me

crazy bat$4!+ people....like whats her face shop lady in megaton and that nuttjob with a nuka quest...there r nutty people in NV but not really like them...oh ya and that republic of dave guy

heavy armored bad dudes that made sense for thier protection of armor....tha enclave or tha brotherhood depending on your taste on who to shoot at...or both....in NV i dont get goons in skirts being armored...even if i shoot them in thier BARE LEGS

a slave compund you could do something about and not wreck tha game....paradise falls...going a killing ceasar and tha legion if ya hate slavery feels like a game wrecker....i dont mean is more of a chore or difficult to do...that fine....it feels like ya mess tha game up if ya do that

running into people & weirdos ramdomly in tha wastes that arent quest or story related...like tha cracked out guy who fell dead or uncle leo....or omg nm there was alot and NV seems to leave that aspect out

oasis and herold...thatw as was just extra neato stuff like dunwich...NV doesnt seem to have anything like that

i also miss baby carrage traps and tha fact FO3 seemed to have alot more traps

more in depth caves....was more in FO3 like ant caves....tha ones in NV are small and not many of them....despite there being several mounts these animals are at....you cant go in them..there is even a molerat mound you cant enter

more weird happenings like alien stuff....in location and random happening (tha gun that fell from tha sky)....new vegas has one and ONLY if ya get a trait for it...that really didnt turn out to be very entertaining...especially since some of tha locations REPLACED other stuff....sad no fun

no weird simulations....pint sized slasher was genious...

now DONT get me wrong....i DONT want tha same repeated stuff...but..

NV just seems to be lacking tha odd and interesting personality that FO3 had...i hope some DLC makes it more fun....and uses those HUGE unused ammounts of empty map space

but its sad to think to need hope for DLC to bring interesting weirdness when FO3 had it before DLC

this game is like a capitol one credit card ad...romans get em!!!! rofl and war or not it has a general lack of feeling...story being all tied up and lots of plots intercepting is good...if the story meat is good but it really isnt its kinda dull

and vegas....why elvis...i guess its fine...but why leave out people like DON RICKLES!!!!!...or is he tha evil gnome item you find? ROFL

a big one for me is tha general lack of creepy sub areas like sewers and buildings that are bigger and full of ghouls and such.....wander tha wasteland survival semi RPG game then sneak into a building and suddenly its terror and horror

as a request to tha devs....please add lots of conetent like that

heck just make one fallout game and keep expanding it....with options to never end and maby change characters....just keep adding stuff

so glad for tha PC version with mods....can extend tha game for your money for a long time....add things or change/fix things...cause first time i played on a consol....it was fun and then it ended....then i got tha PC person and HOLY WOW it went ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON.....thinking back makes me think of a consol version as a big ripoff

small things...i do appreciate in NV we can grab tha big spoon finally and wear ball cap with glasses xD....but still annoyed i have to wait for a mod to pick up red balls and whatever else is in tha game but non useable like pick axes

oh last side note....the come fly with me ghouls and what they was up to that was good....and yes i realize there are bat$4!+ characters like lily and tabitha and rhonda but it still feels like less

Fallout 1 and 2 didn't have a lot of "freaky deaky" stuff excluding the easter egg encounters.

I think FONV is by far a better game in terms of story, main quest and stuff having consequences, factions etc - but I agree with a fair amount of what you say about the variety and number of traps, and the little things that added flavour in FO3, more terminals with pre-war backstory (some amusing and pointless and some of it poignant), and yes the larger number of people who were obviously psychologically affected by the struggle for survival (wittering on about the spring catalogue or whatever).

Have you taken the "Wild Wasteland" trait? That might spice up your game a bit.

I'll agree that WW was lackluster and should of just been put into the game regularly.

Mirelurks in the desrt? Uh........no.

I don't miss most of those things from Fallout 3......because I already played (and beat) fallout 3 four times.

Ready for a change of pace (not to mention an actual challenge) and FONV provides that.

You don't want "freaky deaky." Heck, you complain about a lack of constant ghouls. That's not "freaky deaky," that's "I want Fallout 3."

How about schizophrenic Nightkin? One of whom is a crossdresser. She has a robot best friend. They go on adventures.

well to start....the ONE thing u mentioned isnt tha sum total....so no it is NOT "i want FO3" you point is negated by the many other things i mentioned not just tha ONE you mentioned

next....i mentioned those characters and said how i dont think they cover it

for this it seems ya scanned over or stopped reading after a bit....and didnt understand you points wouldnt fit well with thier lack of fitting to tha other information i mentioned

next....i didnt say constant ghouls....thats just your pooly done interpritation....and again it is ONLY ONE thing and my point is a lack of many things not just that ONE thing

next again....im pretty sure there was alot more (i.e. all the stuff i mentioned) to FO3 than "constant ghouls" so "constant ghouls" isnt fitting to "i want FO3" being "i want FO3" could incluse alot more than "constant ghouls"

and your comments only seem like you have some grudge against people complaining that NV isnt like FO3 and you just blindly attack....exampled by you trying to make a poitn based one ONE THING wich in no way covers my point

these are just theory based on obsevation....maby i am misinderstanding you.....but im pretty sure "constant ghouls" does not fit "i want FO3" and it is certainly not what im saying and with my other examples of other things that are NOT "constant ghouls" there is no way i could be saying i want FO3 and constant ghouls....being thats is negated by tha fact i mention many other things

no need to get worked up by my half asleep ramblings and simple opinions....i was just mentioning not complaing....and absoltly not saying "i want FO3"

so to say another way just in case.....there is no way by your logic that "i want FO3" is "constant ghouls" can be right being i said many other things and wanting FO3 would consist of more than only wanting "constant ghouls" bieng FO3 was alot more than ghouls and certainly NOT "constant ghouls"

I'm kind of getting a "I want another Fallout 3" sentiment from the OP as well.

I definitely wouldn't agree that there is less (appropriate) weirdness in NV. Black Mountain Radio alone made me laugh more than just about all of the silly additions to FO3 put together. Places like the Dunwich building were neat, but I didn't feel like it belonged in a Fallout game. Of course, that's just an opinion...it just didn't feel right to me.

Anyway, maybe some people are just missing things...? I mean, the first time I went to Freeside I was

I would somewhat agree with the OP that FO3 had much of what NV seems to be lacking...for me mainly the expansivness (not map size btw) of the game and all the weird and scary moments that came with it. It did seem to me that FO3 did have alot more of all that the OP has stated...however, you must understand that FO3 was in production for many more years than NV was. While some may state that they did not need to reinvent the wheel just add quests and a few things here and there....you may be right, but please just keep in mind its a different company with alot less time to great a masterpiece than beth had.

I hear this all the time. Ya it's a decent story. The consequences part isn't even that amazing since we don't know how much is going to really be affected once we can continue the game. The story was far from amazing but not bad either. I honestly don't see how amazing it is. And sad to say this said, it was the best thing NV had to offer. :(

Are you talking about the overall story or the detail in the writing? To me, FO3's story felt artificially epic and a little cliche. I'm not saying NV's over-arching story is anything all that new, but it (to me) felt less forced and more believable. When people talk about the "story" and the "writing," though, I think it's important to make a distinction between the over-arching plot (which could be represented with a time line or outline) and the detailed writing (all of the little conversations, quests, and background info). Just doing a comparison of the overall plot doesn't raise too much of a distinction between the two games, but IMO the depth to all of the conversations, quests, people, and places in NV was much more convincing, detailed, fleshed-out, and thoughtful than it was in FO3 by a pretty wide margin.

The depth was there because there were a hundred times as many npcs you could talk to. If F3 had that many the game would have lost the post apoc feel they needed. And yes I know you are one of those "if it wasn't like the originals it isn't fallout" types but making the world feel freshly deserted and bombed was what revived the series. I wouldn't call the quests deeper anyway since Obsidian added so many simple quests of one or two objectives while F3 only had a few quests which all took hours to complete.

So they really aren't comparable.

let me explain further.....side element....i dont want FO3.....but i miss the SUM TOTAL of many of its side elements....not just one or two parts...or i wouldnt have listed the longer list

i also enjoyed black mountain radio ALOT...enough that i mentioned why does tha good radio only reach so far and tha dull ones reach all over...but i didnt say NV had NO odd side elements.....i said it seems to have much less than FO3

and again weird waste perk...crazy grannies....neat....but that perk does not cover what seems to be missing.....every part of that perk is less than all tha odd stuff in FO3....plus tha fact it REPLACES stuff and is not just an add....seems wrong to me....get tha perk get tha weird but lose some of the normal....i didnt like that aspect very much

now also i would like to add what happened to exploding vehicles? again this isnt a cry for FO3....i just dont understand why it was a factor when you had to run for cover in FO3 cause it might get shot and explode and hurt you but now its not.....its like they shaved off a bunch of stuff from tha game type.....its like loot a container....you can loot a container in tha FO game series.....if it was taken out in FO4 that would be weird and im sure people would think it was wrong.....and not be a cry for previous versions of tha game.....why dont vehicles explode anymore? the vehicles are there.....we have guns and such

No, I mean that settlements are aware of each other, have stories that interact, people can tell you about themselves, members of factions can tell you about their history and how they feel about other factions, places have a history and an explanation for existing rather than being theme park rides, and I could go on and on. There was just a lot more thought put into just about every aspect of the setting and characters.

I also disagree that the game world has to be devoid of people to be post-apocalyptic. This is a stereotype, not a rule. It's 200+ years after the war.

And yes I know you are one of those "if it wasn't like the originals it isn't fallout" types but making the world feel freshly deserted and bombed was what revived the series.

No, what revived the series is that Titus (the company that bought Interplay) finally decided to sell it. Bethesda wasn't the only company interested in buying, so the role of "reviver of the series" came down to an auction.

Trying to invalidate my opinion by trying to pigeon-hole me as some kind of FO1/2 purist is a good try, but it doesn't really work. I really liked some of what Bethesda did in FO3. I just feel like if their goal was to adhere to the plot tenets and aesthetic of the originals (which is what they stated they were doing), they made some missteps. I'm 100% open to things being added and changed if they make sense and fit in with the already-established setting.

I wouldn't call the quests deeper anyway since Obsidian added so many simple quests of one or two objectives while F3 only had a few quests which all took hours to complete.

So they really aren't comparable.

They are comparable, though. The number and size of the quests doesn't say anything about the depth of those quests, their settings, or the characters and factions involved. I just felt that most of the places, factions, and characters in FO3 were only detailed to the point that they had to be, and very little was connected to anything else. Within the microcosm of each quest or location there was some depth, but the game world didn't hang together as a big picture. Very seldom did FO3 paint as detailed a picture as NV does. Again, I'm not saying that FO3 was bad, but the world, people, and factions were nowhere near as detailed.

It seems like the designers of FO3 put more time into added stuff all over the place for the player to find and less time on the intangibles that add a certain kind of depth to the world and Obsidian's priorities were shifted the other direction. Some players are going to find one approach more appealing than the other, and that's fine. Saying they're not comparable is like someone complaining that there aren't enough random places to find in NV and me saying, "yeah, but NV has more bigger places with more going on so they're not comparable."

snip

What can I say? I disagree. NV has been making me laugh a lot more than FO3 did. YMMV, though...there's no right or wrong.

plus tha fact it REPLACES stuff and is not just an add....seems wrong to me....get tha perk get tha weird but lose some of the normal....i didnt like that aspect very much

Some people hated the crazy stuff in FO3, so they made it an option in NV. I don't see how that could be a bad thing.

now also i would like to add what happened to exploding vehicles? again this isnt a cry for FO3....i just dont understand why it was a factor when you had to run for cover in FO3 cause it might get shot and explode and hurt you but now its not.....its like they shaved off a bunch of stuff from tha game type.....its like loot a container....you can loot a container in tha FO game series.....if it was taken out in FO4 that would be weird and im sure people would think it was wrong.....and not be a cry for previous versions of tha game.....why dont vehicles explode anymore? the vehicles are there.....we have guns and such

IMO they shouldn't have exploded in FO3. Any nuclear material would have been scavenged a loooooooong time ago. Besides, why would they have designed those fuel cells to be so volatile in the first place? As much as I liked FO3, that was one of the aspects I really hated. IMO good riddance.

Yeah, still haven't made it all the way through New Vegas but I'm probs around 3/4 the way, using the Wild Wasteland perk and I've only seen a hand full of crazy situations.

New Vegas has a few good ones and plenty of great characters but would of appreciated they went all out when you've got Wild Wasteland active like it suggests. Maybe it'll take a few plays, the Vault has a fair list of supposed strange encounters and I doubt I've had anywhere near whats listed on The Vault wiki.

nastier looking super mutants...or os there some reason they r smoother looking in NV?

The West Coast super mutants are from a different source than the East Coast ones. The western ones were made at the Mariposa Base by the Master or The Enclave (The Enclave ones tending to be stupider). The D.C. mutants came from Vault 87, and they were made with an eniterly different strain of FEV.
