Most beautiful open world game ever? Who agrees

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:06 pm

While not an open-world game, I think LOTR- War in the North definitely gets a shot at the most beautiful game world ever created. Skyrim is nice too.

As an open-world game, yes, in my opinion, Skyrim is the most beautiful so far.

Possibly. Just Cause 2s landscapes were equally as vast, diverse and beautiful though, so I'm undecided.

Oooohhh... you got me there. How could I forget about Just Cause 2? Umm... yeah, that's an amazingly beautiful open-world game. If you haven't played it, I suggest you do (just throw story and dialogue completely out the window before you even start it up).

This one is on par with Red Dead Redemption's. I loved RDR's majestic vistas and epic landmarks. Skyrim is effin' sick too

Yeah, RDR was pretty damned amazing. I'm a native of the SW too, so it brought me back home and literally made me homesick. It's too bad that once I finished the game it totally lost all alure for me. But I freakin' loved that game while I played it. One of the best games of all time.

I live in the south west as well. I like the desert landscape, but its IMO, bland and lifeless. Good for some things, but beauty is a rarity. Unless we are talking Sedona. Amazing place id love to go camping sometime.

Hmmm... I disagree. You need to spend more time out in the desert (out of town), especially during thunderstorm season. The way the desert springs to life right after a thunderstorm is amazing... and the smells... there is nothing like the smell of mesquite right after a thunderstorm.

Ha ha I loved GTA4. I had so much fun screwing around in that game world once I had finished the main story. The Gay Tony expansion made it even more fun. Can't wait for GTA5.

Red Dead was amazing too. That world seemed really alive minus some of the scripted events that happened far too often. But the actual world was amazing.

But yea Skyrim is definitely one of the best.

I love GTA 4 too, but that's because I used to love going into the City on weekends when I lived in Conn. GTA 4 had a fantastic recreation of NYC... until you jumped in a helicopter and realized how crappy everything looks from the air (speaking specifically of the trees). But, yeah, I still play GTA 4 to this day. Very awesome recreation indeed. But it's Rockstar... they are just awesome at that.

my next game is going to be red dead. i'm going to compare it to skyrim and mass effect. gta4 was the worst game ever.

Mass Effect is linear so doesn't qualify with the thread.

I found Oblivion's gameworld a lot more beautiful personally.

Just Cause 2's gameworld is fairly stunning also - just a shame it's so lifeless.

Hmm. It's not the prettiest game ever, I know that. And I haven't played enough of the other "Open-World" games to make that call. I'll just say it's not the best looking game on record. But it's pretty cool.

Skyrim is easily one of the best looking games I've played. I'm a bit disappointed with how certain things look like enchanted items. They have a colored sheen just like Morrowind... reading lore books like The Armorers Challenge a blade Enchanted with fire would actually look like its on fire and have stuff like terrain effect it, it would of been fairly awesome if that kind of thing could actually work similar to that in game play.

Not "the" most beautiful but one of the most beautiful i would say. Can't wait to play the Dragon's Dogma demo.

Im not sure i can consider Dragon's Dogma and open world...til now...its a big map but not really explorable. But i need to see the final build to say something more certain.

Can I count Shadow of the Colossus as open world? If so, then it wins.
Skyrim is very pretty too.

I wouldn't say the most beautiful but it is sure my favorite and the most detailed for sure, it certainly has the best mountains and mist effects around them, no other game even comes close to that,

I guess I can agree that Skyrim looks great.
However, if you have the right mods, I dare say you can make Morrowind look more beautiful than skyrim, and that's just not graphics it's the different areas, and setting. But as I said you'll need mods.

Skyrim ranked 2nd in one of the best graphics game i ever played.
I didnt put 1st because there will be games in the future that will obviously make skyrim look like crap, but thats like 5 years from now.
Skyrim as a 2011/2012 game, is extremely beautiful in its vanilla form and even more with mods+ultra texture etc+enb

Sadly, skyrim still has its negative sides :(

Skyrim is so beautiful that sometimes it's virtually indistinguishable from a landscape photo taken in real life. I wonder how the Elder Scrolls VI will look on next-gen hardware... better than real life? :P
