Mystery Meat identifed...

So http://www.examiner.com/nutrition-in-sacramento/meat-mixture-sold-by-taco-bell-tests-at-less-than-35-beef for their mislabeling their Seasoned Taco Filling as Seasoned Beef... which is about 35% beef and 65% filler and seasonings.

Too bad that "Where's the beef?" woman is dead.

I heard about that this morning on the radio. It's not surprising that it's not 100% meat, it's also not surprising that someone has decided to sue. Whether it's for money or publicity doesn't really matter to me, I just want to know what the heck I'm eating.

The issue is false advertising and what you are putting into your body. Would you eat it if they called it what it is, "Almost Meat" ? You should be aware of what you are putting into your body, granted, if you thought this was in anyway nutritionally valuable in the first place you were flat out lying to yourself the fact remains, it is not meat nor should it be called meat.

As long as it's not toxic, is cheap, and tastes good... then I really don't care what's in it.

And if it turns out to be toxic? And you have been eating it for 10+ years, then what?

It's the United States. Of COURSE somebody's suing somebody. We have the highest rates of suing and also psychiatrists, because we always want to blame someone else.

From the http://www.examiner.com/nutrition-in-sacramento/meat-mixture-sold-by-taco-bell-tests-at-less-than-35-beef:
The customer filing the lawsuit does not want any monetary damages. The individual asks the court to "order Taco Bell to be honest in its advertising," according to the Associated Press article in today's Sacramento Bee.

I'm glad this isn't done out of pure greed, makes me think our legal system is actually good for something. It's silly how much secrecy surrounds the food we eat - and I'm not even talking about just fast food. Hopefully this will lead to more honesty in what is actually in the things we consume.

I saw it on the news, but when I saw the title of the thread here, the only thing I could think is the hunters in Fallout 3 were selling that stuff.

Dude, for Taco Bell it's more like, "Wow! I didn't think there'd be that much!"

Or that it was Rat...

On a side note, I was horrified to discover that Jack in the Box's nacho meat was made by Purina.
