We need enemies as fearsome as deathclaws are to fallout.

I agree about Skyrim needing a big bad monster. Nothing is really dangerous in the high levels. And Deathclaws were scary.

However, I think a large part of the issue is the armor/resist system in Skyrim. In FNV the best defense you could get would only block a small portion of a High DMG attack. Even with a DT (using power armor) of 40 you are still taking a ton of DMG on a 200 DMG attack. In skyrim it is very easy to reduce that 200 DMG attack to a pathetic 30 pts. And with blocking you can almost completely negate the entire attack. The armor/resist cap needs to be lower in Skyrim.

The Troll at High Hrothgar when you're level 5.

But yeah, we could use some beastly Daedra or something. Some new beasts from Oblivion in some futre DLC would be cool.

Reading that description of how Deathclaws work, the first thing I thought was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwFyr0IAyqM. They could always bring those back!

I totally agree with the original post though. beastlier enemies. Maybe they'll bring back Daedroth and give them a reskin to look a little more like Deathclaws. And new physical mechanics. I think Deathclaw like creatures would fit well into TES.

Random werewolf encounters in the wild would have been nice. And maybe a random chance for high level undead to spawn around exterior burial sites, like corrupted shades. CORRUPTED SHADES ARE THE SECOND SCARIEST BADDIES I'VE EVER SEEN IN A GAME EVER and yet they're sorely underused in Skyrim. Crying shame.

The only high-level deadra you encounter in the wild are at Mehrunes Dagon's shrine. That's kind of lame. They need to be more spread out. My very first encounter with a deadra in Skyrim was a flame atronauch in a dungeon. Just manifested out of nowhere in an antechamber before the "boss room" as a miniboss. Was one of my favorite TES moments ever. Too bad that experience has yet to repeat itself.

There aren't many mages in Skyrim so where would they come from?

I'm still disappointed that the skeletons are so pathetically weak. Dragons should have been a touch more fearsome. Other than that it's not too bad really. The biggest issue with the game, in this regard, is that our characters become overpowered way too easily.

Sadly that's the norm for EVERY game now. Every sequel to an epic series (that started on PC, ahem) has gotten progressively easier since the companies started targeeting the young console crowd. Make it easy, streamline the mechanics, and the kiddies feel UBER POWERFUL and become money machines. Ain't ever going back to the golden age my friend. I weep.

Every time i see a volakhir master vampire i know that i wont stand a chance, and my only option is to run. I have a clear memory of this one time where i was chased out of a dungeon by a high-level vampire, casting spells like bloody machine gun. I barley made it out. Besides, all you needed to do to beat deathclaws was to cripple their legs.

We certainly need more fearsome enemies. Dragons is awesome at being fearsome until you reach higher levels. Ancient dragons are awesome even when you have a pretty high level, although they aren't really tough. I think the higher level draugrs and Dragon priests were pretty difficult when I first met them, but then again, a high level player can defeat them easily.

I think Bethesda should focus on making the dragons more fearsome for high level players. I mean, in the beginning of the game, every dragon fight felt amazing, but now I encounter them too often, and they don't feel special any more. I think bethesda should make even the more simple dragons more difficult as you level up, and I think they should add more different kind of dragons that look and feel different. For example, I want a dragon that is gigantic compared to the other dragons, that would certainly bring back the challenge of the dragons.

Ever since I started to avoid enchanting altogether and bump up the difficulty to Expert, certain enemies do put me on the edge of my seat. If I'm not careful and stumble upon a few bears, a troll, some ice wraiths, or a few spiders in the wilderness and don't have health potions I'm SOL. Then again, my current character relies on not being seen first, or hopefully at all. I'm also trying to avoid using overpowered perks, so I can't just sneak my way through every situation. It makes the game more interesting, and some enemies are, for the most part, fearsome.

I think level scaling is an issue here. Fallout 3 deathclaws weren't that big a deal because aprt from not having DT in F3 unless you went to Old Olney (and the ones there were spread out) you weren't going to encounter them until you were already strong enough to take them on. In New Vegas they were in a number of set places in packs and they were waaaaaay more powerful than you until you had the kit and perks. And kit had limitations - the AM rife was slow to fire and the brush gun had a big reload time which meant it could all go very wrong very fast in you messed up. With the speed and ferocity of deathclaws it made battles with them potentially very intense unless you found a camping spot.

Secondly, deathclaws were very fast, very aggressive and their DT negated weaker weapons, but they weren't total bullet sponges. Cazadores didn't have a lot of health but were very fast and had powerful attacks. At higher levels you could easily kill them, but if you made a mistake they could be a real problem (and followers could very easily die fighting them) I really hope Beth don't feel the need for damage sponges in the DLC and try to be more intelligent using things like speed, agility and deadly attacks. I think creatures like ice wraiths are interesting - they're not particularly strong, but I find they can be difficult to hit what with all that weaving about. I think Beth need to build on their toning down of level scaling to incorporate a few 'danger zones' outdoors and think creatively about enemies that are threatening in ways that go beyond a gazillion health (I'm thinking of you albino radscorpions) - please Beth don't go down that road in Skyrim DLC).

Hence why I don't run at them with a combat knife while in the midist of yelling Leroy Jenkins.

done it, and won. lost a crap load of chems (and, strangely enough, got an addiction to turbo  ). anyway, i would like at least something made to actually kill the player, maybe my first wisp mother was a bit hard but it was nothing compared to a death claw

My main point here is that deathclaws were always a threat, they were difficult to sneak around, impossible to avoid and kill you in one/two hits with the very best armor.

I suggest adding a higher level (35+) version of the bear and sabre cat, with a few even stronger 'alpha male' and 'mother' versions. Maybe they could look more rugged, with a few scars, deal twice the damage, twice the speed and ignore let's say 50% of your armor.
Have locations where these high level beasts exist when you're level one, like deathclaws did in fallout. Upgrading the wolves wouldn't be the worst idea as well.

But the main point would be put the animals in packs, no enemy is that much of a challenge on its own. You might run into two sabre cats together or two/three bears randomly, but it's rare in game. I'd like to see packs of sabres and packs of upgraded wolves, that can get to the places you can, so you cannot hide.

Instead of bears and saber cats and mundane animals, why not add more Udyrfrykte trolls, and make them more powerful?
