Never played a warrior. Convince me

Why should others convince you you to do something you don't want to do?

It's not that I don't want to. I'm just hearing about other players experiences with a warrior. The little I have tried it, it's seemed a bit boring.

To me the game feels the same either way you go the only difference is instead of having spells do damage to people you have weapons do the damage. You just have to try different weapon and combat styles to fit what playstyle you like the most.

My preferred melee method is shield charging. Knock them over like bowling pins and hit them while they're down.

I find a warrior to be boring. Although I've never tried one.
Also known as a oxymoron ...

I'm trying to use a mace and shield knight, and my golly is it fun! Ignoring armor makes short work of most enemies, and the shield perks for mag resistance? I just wade through mages and warriors alike.

I don't really care if you play one or not. I enjoyed mine and was honestly surprised by that because I thought it would be boring. Up to you. Do what you like.

i love my orc warrior. he now has 100 in heavy armor and two handed after last night lol. i am just using orc armor though since they made it tougher to level smithing. even with that though i am a little over the cap. i happened to get an ebony battle axe so i was ecstatic lol. oh yeah, level 31 with 350 health and 150 stamina. don't use magic except the transmute spell and alchemy with him so the default magicka.

My personal preference? Some Light Armor, a Sword, and a Shield. I like to call it 'tactical' warrior. I just block, wait for a chance to counter the enemy, or use my shield bash if the enemy never lets up.

As a matter of fact, I once obtained Stormcloak Armor, a Hide Shield, and a Steel Sword... and from there on out I never once changed armors or weapons again. I defeated Alduin with the same equipment I entered Riverwood with for the first time.

Just like me :D
I had Heavy Imperial armor till the very end.

Warrior is a more open class than most.
You can make paladins, barbariens, Black Knights and many many more types of builds Do both find out what you like. sheild and one handed weapons lets you tank/block arrows and can defend better with magika/elemental. one handed lets you deal more damage.

I usually play battle mages, but my straight sword and shield warrior was probably the most fun gameplay-wise. A lot of it came down to bashing people in the face. And being an orc. Gods, I love that Berserk.

I plan on starting tomorrow. I'm playing a little FNV. I've decided to do a sword and shield based warrior though. Better against mages. I'm undecided between a nord or an Orc though.

On my male Nord/Orc I perfer Two-Handed. With enough stamina and a resist magica enchantment on you, you can just run through/around any spell that gets cast on you and easily 1-hit any unarmored mage you come accrossed. And when it comes melee enemies you can still use the block bash to knock them off balance. Archers do give me problems though. Still haven't figured out how to deal with them other than hide behind a rock and wait for them to get close.

I thought making a warrior would be extremely repetitive and boring but when I envisioned my character it just seemed wrong for my Nord to be anything but a warrior. My first complete playthrough was with a 2H Axe wielding warrior and I loved it. 2H warriors seem to kill just about everything in a few hits and with the long range it certainly compensates for the inability to block as well as the slow swings. My next character was a generic sword and board character and after about an hour or so the combat becomes so fluid.

If I'm not mistaken. Isn't there a perk to deflect arrows with a shield

Oh yea with a shield you can block arrows easily. I was talking about when I am wielding a 2-Handed weapon I cant seem to find a way any other way to take them out with the way I am playing other than dodging and using bariers to close the distance. I could use wirldwind sprint I guess but I normally do not keep it set as my shout. is there a shout that staggers all opponents?

Nah... my two words would be shield bash.

BAM! Can't do nuthin', can ya mage? MWAHAHA!! BAM!! BAM!! BAMBAMBAM!!!!!

Edit: If you're gonna try a melee warrior, really, the best thing IS shield bash. Alot of people are put off by warriors because they get owned by spellcasters (and shouting draugrs, and dragons, and giants, etc), but with proper use of shield bashing, such opponents are rendered ineffectual.

This so much. Sheild bash is awesome. The entire block perk tree is a must too.

Not as cricial as the speech perk... Even though persuasion really got the ball dropped in Skyrim.

Unlike the mage, a warrior never runs out of the ability to attack her enemy. Where as a mage would be fighting at drastically reduced effectiveness as soon as she depletes her manna pool.
Unlike the thief, a warrior can hold her ground and slug it out in honorable melee. Where as a thief needs the element of suprise and a get away plan in case she ends up fighting more than one mildly strong enemy in conventional combat.

A warrior has some major staying power and can absorb incredible abuse before she has to retreat, even without their blocking skills.

There are several subclasses of warriors too, two handed, one handed/w shield, melee+bow, each has their own strengths and advantages.

depends what you like

1h is faster, less damage, and shields

2h is slower, more damage (i mean significantly), and no shields (but you can still block, just not as effectively)
