Unlike the mage, a warrior never runs out of the ability to attack her enemy. Where as a mage would be fighting at drastically reduced effectiveness as soon as she depletes her manna pool.
Unlike the thief, a warrior can hold her ground and slug it out in honorable melee. Where as a thief needs the element of suprise and a get away plan in case she ends up fighting more than one mildly strong enemy in conventional combat.
A warrior has some major staying power and can absorb incredible abuse before she has to retreat, even without their blocking skills.
There are several subclasses of warriors too, two handed, one handed/w shield, melee+bow, each has their own strengths and advantages.
