New Playable Races: Good Or Bad Idea # 2

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:15 pm

It would be hard to integrate races in, while keeping them functionally different enough for gameplay purposes.

Sload can teleport at will, and have issues using tools. That right there is already starting to affect gameplay. Do you deviate from lore, one of the biggest things about this series, or do you sacrifice gameplay value to stay true to it?

I think Snow Elves, and a few beast races could be fit in with some work.

Snow Elves could be spellswords, but more emphasis on the magic aspect, or lightweight spellsword style.

It'd be tricky to do without making everything else feel moot.

At the very least I think it'd be cool to meet some sort of Ambassador from one of the Akavari races in the next game, even if it is just a quick thing where you're walking into a castle and the ambassador is walking out surrounded by guards.

Bethesda needs to ramp it up and do a full out war between Akivir and Tamriel.

I say we wait until the hardware and games are good enough so that we can have both a region in tamriel AND part of akavir, if not more.

until then it won't work very well.

A sload is basically Jabba the Hut. There is no way they can be implemented. All races are humanoid and must fit in armor.

The Tang'Mo I think would fill a warrior beast class, probably utilizing light armor.

If they add acrobatics in Elder Scrolls 6 I think Tang Moa should get the biggest boost from all the races, if they too are added.
For next gen-consoles I woulld love to go to Tamrial (all of it) and Akavrik.

It would be great to see new Races, in fact there is no bad side. Other then conflicting stories maybe, but this is Bethesda were talking about here they can make a talking banana make sense while keeping it coherent with the overall world's story.

I would love to see Snow Elves or the Dwemmer make an appearance as playable races.

Other races I want to see:
Tang Mo
Tsaesci
Kothringi
Imga

I think this is a great concept. I believe it was used for a Morriwind mod? It seems to be a very accurate depiction of the Tang'Mo.

I was just throwing it out there.

I know its Morrowind, but it seams bland and stale. Needs to be furryer like Khajiit!

The wikia says the Tang Moa resemble these monkeys, just also throwing it out.

As a playable race, that would be waaaaay to overpowered.
I actually played a Dremora race mod in Oblivion. Had a great time. Ver'um'eziel deffinately was a beast.

Mage- Snow Elf
Well, with the Dawnguard add on, I'd say it wouldn't be asking too much to see a larger colony of Snow Elves living in seclusion, and to see them represented as a playable race. Their stat bonuses would probably be +10 Destruction and +5 One Handed, Conjuration, Alchemy, Sneak, and Archery. They would have a natural 50% Frost resistance and their ability would be something relating to that "Snow Elf magic", maybe a temporary increase to how much damage Destruction spells do.

I'd like to see a Falmer playable race other than a mod but, since I've been playing Falmer, Ice Elf and Snow Elf mods in Morrowind and Oblivion I'm more than a little concerned that it would not meet my expectations. The Falmer mod I'm currently playing in Morrowind based my interpetaion of the Snow Prince is built like this
Abilities: Cole's Frost Blood: Resist Frost 75%
Weakness to fire 50%
Cole House Legacy: Magicka multiplier bonus10
Weakness to normal weapons
Warwyrd Ability = fortify attack

Powers: Cole's Guardian (Summon Frost Atronach)
Falmer Touch (paralyze & frost damage)

Spell: Snowflower: Frost damage on target; area = 5, duration = 2, magnitude = 1-25

Skill Bonus: Spear 15
Illusion 10
Alteration 5
Mysticism 5
Marksman 5
Speechcraft 5

Base Attributes: Male Female
Strength 50 35
Intelligence 45 45
Willpower 40 45
Agility 40 40
Speed 30 30
Endurance 35 40
Personality 40 40
Luck 30 35

I really, really don't want to see new races implemented until we've fully explored all (or at least most) of the current ones.

Random race with no base in lore? No thank you.
Race that happens to match with lore like the Akavir? Hell yeah. I would totally go for that. Imagine an Elder scrolls in the Akavir continent where you have to kick the crap out the Tsaesci and resurrect the akaviri race.

I'm trying to imagine the dialogue in the beginning of the game if you were a Snow Elf

Hadvar: "A Snow Elf? I didn't know there were any of you left. Captain, what should we do? He's not on the list."
Captain: "Forget the list, he goes to the block."
Hadvar: "Really? Do you really want to contribute to the extinction of the Snow Elves? He could be the last one for all we know! ...Fine, by your orders, captain. I'm sorry, I'll make sure your remains are returned to... uh... never mind."

lol

it wouldn't make much sense would it? :P

though to be fair, its very unlikely they add new playable races into this game, unless they make it a reward choice or something for the end of a DLC.

I sure I read somewhere that there are giant turtles in the seas off Summerset Isles because I think it says in Maormer lore that they sailed to Pyandonea on the back of them. Not sure about dinosaurs being there though but it is possible. Especially as it is an island separated from Tamriel so its wildlife is probably a lot different. Pyandonea is I think supposed to be tropical paradise.

Thras of the Sloads (also in the ocean off Summerset Isles) apparently has underwater cities.

Well, they don't have to be official dinosaurs. Although it would be amazing to see pterodactyls, triceratops or brachiosaurus. But alot of the lizards from the pre- mesozoic period might fit in. I also thought massive tree house cities, where you need to swing to get anywhere would be incredible. In terms of playable characters I have alot of friends that Love exploring and don't really like fighting much. So it might be cool if you could actually start running you own shops/farms/stools maybe even have your own work force that help you, trading partners and deals. That way you can use your speech and barter skills from the other side of the table for a change.

Oh yeah, Falmer.

Blind throughout the whole game.

Sounds like a sixy time.

Still trying to get over Orcs being added in TES III to be honest.

10 races. That's actually quite a bit really.

It used to be in TES games that races meant something. That being a Nord actually made you a better fighter, especially at the beginning of the game. Now a Breton female can out-smack a husky male Orc any day. Kind of makes me sick really. With them all being so vanilla anymore I don't see the point of adding any more to be honest. You're just basically changing the skin.

I used to love my role-plays where I would play things like a female Altmer warrior and struggle to stay alive. Now it doesn't mean anything.

Skyrim's set has it more as in if your a Nord you start off with better warrior classes. Ita=s harder for a Nord to be a mage, but possible thats the thing of it.

hopefully in a Winterhold city rebuild where Winterhold becomes a bit more vibrant again. That way they can kill two birds with one stone. I hate dlc buildings and things popping up in the wilderness (unless it is off the map like in Dawnguard). I like to see the main cities grow. I wish building like Battlehorn Castle in Oblivion were placed in Kvatch as part of a rebuild.

Bad, unless it can somehow fit in with the lore.
i don't remember vamp lords fitting in the lore :P

i think TES could use some fresh faces, the same races in every game in every part of the land is getting old. i have a feeling that they might add snow elves someday but i won't be a fan because they look like albino altmer...

we need a new race to play as that looks different from the rest...definitely no more elves or men
