New Vegas morality

Post » Fri May 06, 2011 10:07 am

I think he's trying to say that there won't be much or any sin in New Vegas because the FCC regulates and censors games and probably censored New Vegas, but they can't regulate what people do with mods. *cue evil laughter?*

(I don't think the FCC can do anything about censoring games though, isn't that the ESRB's job?)

I'd say there's plenty of sin in New Vegas, prostitution (same six and opposite), drug use, murder, cannibalism, greed, and the like.

Yeah, but they could say [censored] and [censored] and [censored] in 3 , and what I'm writing in being censored isn't it?

Er, yes, but you're not being censored by the FCC or the ESRB. You're being censored by whoever's hosting these forums. I'm...not sure what your point is.

:disguise: Most definitely. And you can't talk about sin in New Vegas without mentioned good 'ol Fisto, and the quest that involves him/her/it.

I find it hilarious that in Fallout 3 and I expect in this game you are rewarded 'good' karma for killing bad people. As if murder makes a difference depending on the morality of the person you kill.

Erm, is was only Australia (where the FCC, as part of the United States government, has no power) that objected to real world drugs, prompting Bethesda to change morphine to "med-ex" (which I actually think is the better name anyway). The U.S. was fine with it, as far as I know. Maybe Germany had a problem with it as well? I don't really know.

And yeah, it's best not mentioning that other topic, since it tends to get threads locked pretty quickly.

No idea about that, but mods will sure prolong the game if necessary.
These type of games are on the other hand as long as you make them though so don't worry about it too much ;)

Thats a fair point. I just contrast with the Legion because I've always lived in my own world. Building a huge walled off city would only be a bigger testament to this. The Strip is my ideal place to reside in a post war world.

maybe that's why I'm so attracted to the strip? Hmm deep thought there fellow House...follower

Someone help a brother out, I'm confused by the word "morality".

In all seriousness if Obsidian says that the game is going be be gray, then it probably is. Obsidian has proven time and time again that they can pull off convincing morally gray storylines and characters. Yeah the Caeser's Legion may seem evil at first, but keep in mind that New Vegas will be pushing the idea that even those low level Legion grunts you're killing are family men with wives and children; also aren't many of the Legion soldiers drafted tribals without any real choice but to fight for Caeser? There are evil people in the Legion, heck one of the Legion's co-founders was a twisted psychopath, but I'm sure the NCR has its own share of twisted psychopaths. Some of the soldiers may be depraved lunatics as well, to be fair towards the politicians.

Some posts have gone away. Let's try to stay on topic and not turn this into a discussion about politics and religion. Thanks.

You've taken the whole crucifixion thing out of proportion here, the world of Fallout is a cruel and unforgiving one. The people born into that world have seen killing, [censored] and stealing from the day they've born. There isn't too many ways to make a statement that shocks people in a world like that. Prison sentences with full upkeep would be like a winning in a lottery and quick death would be just a easy way out. People really have to be scared if you want to keep them in control. Democracy and modern justice just have no place in the world yet, there are too many people able and willing to exploit the system without any compassion to the fellow man.

The town of Nipton in NV is described as a town full of gamblers, thieves and prosttutes before CL came around with Vulpes Inculta. He gets the brilliant idea to put up a lottery, the greedy winners come in dancing and singing just to be crucified as the losers are adapted to the legion. If there was anyone that didn't attend to the lottery (which I really doubt) they were probably left alone as their greed didn't cloud their vision. There was a lesson to be learned there and it was set as an example to everyone else. Extreme times demand extreme measures.

I'm glad that the NCR has an eviler side than I thought. It seemed that they were shaping up to be the "good guys".
