And my unrealistic hopes that they'd make another throwback game are officially dashed.
God dammit...

I get the feeling BioWare likes the amount of money Beth made more then the gameplay itself. What is happening, BioWare? Dragon Age: Origins made plenty of money!

Biggest gripe with DA 2 amongst fanbase was all the shortcuts Bioware/EA took. The main quest storyline all took place within that starter keep. Numerous dungeon instances were mirror images of one another.

What Dragon Age succeeds over Bethesda line is their party management system. Far easier to instruct your party where to go. Also their built in Party AI script which is customizable by the player is awesome. Bioware Dragon Age series weakness has always been world building, gonna be interesting to see if they can pull it off.

And? Fantasy gaming in general has always, ALWAYS ridden the coat talis of what came before, back all the way to the big daddy of them all, LOTR. There's very little that's actually new in fantasy RPGs. Never has been.

If DA3 gives us a game that's half as playable as Skyrim, I'm all for it.

I see Bioware as the polar opposite of Bethesda.

Bioware excels at writing and dialogue (although they're a shade of what they used to be), party development and management. But they make lousy game engines leading to lousy level design.

Bethesda has a superior game engine (when it works) and amazing level design. But they have gawd awful quest writers and don't get me started on the mobile knapsacks they call followers.

If the two studios can learn from each other, gamers win.

Thats what I think will happen. Skyrim will become the template that all rpgs will use...

Kind of like why all the fps games look pretty much the same ...

Oh, I see.

No, I still don't think so. Bethesda games take a long time to make; more time than a lot of gaming companies are willing to spend on a game, methinks.

That is true. But other companies will see the succes of SKyrim and try to imitate a lot of it and its mechanics. Sadly thats how the buiness works...
