Non-Alcoholic Drinks.

Also, why not just make it so that drinking water from the wild has a chance of making us sick? Fallout has a similar mechanic based on radiation sickness. This could just give you a chance of getting sick. I think that woild solve everyone's issues with this matter on both sides

Yes I think it would. I wouldn't have a problem with the possibility of disease from drinking water. That would settle it really.

Yes because medieval Earth was populated by 10 different races. With a completely different ecosystem. I mean it's very slightly similar to medieval Earth, based on it, but it's important to remember it's not.

You are ignoring the rule of thumb. Assume things are like Earth unless stated otherwise.

I believe I mentioned that. Aside from magical elements, Skyrim is much like medieval earth, and so it is not unreasonable to presume it operates under the same scientific laws (fireballs excluded, of course). To say that Nirn is not earth and is in fact whatever you want it to be is a lazy cop-out argument.

Are you suggesting Medieval Earth did not have an entirely different ecosystem ?

There were no;

Sabre Cats
Mammoths
Giants
Horkers
Nirnroot
Nightshade

etc. etc. etc.

We know the people of Skyrim are aware of the benefits of refridgeration, a dunmer merchant in Riften uses Ice Wraith Teeth to keep her food crisp and fresh (which they had no clue of in Medieval Earth, meat was kept by things like salt), so you have no idea wether or not they know the benefits of boiling water, or using a spell to cleanse water.

See the first quote. If you start throwing fantasy world logic about then you might as well not bother discussing it.

It IS a fantasy world though.. So obviously I would be using FANTASY WORLD LOGIC.. Unbelievable.

The fact is the only people who could definitively prove something like this are Bethesda devs. THEY make the rules for their FANTASY world. They have never once stated water is not consumed in Skyrim due to disease or anything of the sort, otherwise I've completely missed it. And in fact many in-game books written by them mention characters drinking water. Which would suggest, nay prove, that people drink water on Nirn.

Aside from magic, trolls, elves and other magical elements, Skyrim is basically medieval Earth.

I'm sorry but as a lore-freak I have to intercede here: Skyrim, Tamriel, Nirn, Mundus, and Aurbis are not basically medieval earth. Even if you try comparing timelines, it doesn't match up. For example, the history of human civilization is around 5,500 years going back to ancient Sumer. Civilization on Nirn goes back tens of thousands of years, and has all sorts of steampunk (dwemer) and magical (altmer) technology to make things even more complicated. Also, in those thousands of years people have learned to boil water to make it drinkable. Alchemists have been boiling and purifying water since the time of the aldmer / old ehlnofey, I'm sure the knowledge has eventually trickled down to commoners at some point in the past ten thousand years.

Nirn is an anologue of Earth.
It's perfectly reasonable to assume that certain fundamental principles apply to both systems.

This thread is going nowhere because as soon as you use the "fantasy world" defence there is no way to discuss any point any further.
We might as well just lock the thread now, to be honest.

No you misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not saying that anything is possible in this world, i'm saying its PROVEN that water is purified all the time here. Please read my whole post :]

Water seems meh since we do not know if it can be purified from impunities and milk is an excellent idea.
A simple mod could do it but I would prefer an update or DLC including it with other things.

you want DLC that adds milk?

are you serious?

When I'm hiking / camping in the mountains I drink unboiled water from wells and streams because I can't carry all the water I need with me, that would be waaaay too heavy - and I never had any parasitic worms or sicknesses due to bad water. But like I said, in the mountains - at 8000+ feet the water has very little bacteria and parasites in it and is safe to drink.
And lets not forget snow, snow was the only source of water for months for the people that crash landed in the Andes mountain
