Non-Alcoholic Drinks.

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:00 pm

This subjects probably been raised hundereds of times before but why can't we get non-alcoholic drinks in the game ? Like water or milk ? Purely for immersion I like to eat at least once per day, but I'd prefer to drink a skinful of water than a bottle of wine or Nord mead.

Water seems meh since we do not know if it can be purified from impunities and milk is an excellent idea.
A simple mod could do it but I would prefer an update or DLC including it with other things.

I don't think the water in Skyrim would need purified. Think of all the running waterfalls, fresh, clean, ice cold water.

In truth and IRL you would be far more likely to drink mead/ale than water as it would have been far cleaner.
This, historically, is what would have been the case anyway.

But yeah for PC users there are decent mods. We use IMCN.

There was something about water in the Dawngaurd stuff dug up by some brainiacs from the latest update (1.6).

Something about taking it from shrines and placing it in shrines... so who knows, if you can carry it you may be able to drink it.

Well in the loading screen it says they use the cow for meat, milk and furs. I'd prefer water anyway a skinful, that perhaps you could refill at streams and other bodies of water.

In real life I'd obviously prefer milk, well actually soda, but milk over water.

And that's just a stereotype, I'm as much a Nord as anyone else, I prefer some cooked beef (sometimes raw beef) and wine, sick of Nord mead, drank it for ages, now I'd just like some water instead.

No.

First of all the ale and mead are made with water anyway.
Secondly given the climate of Skyrim and the major source for all it's waterways... I think the water would be pretty clean.

Now I'm not saying go take a drink from the ratway canol... but in the wilderness the water would be far, far purer than anything that comes out of your faucet today.

No.
The majority of populations during the time in which Skyrim is set, IRL, would have drunk beer. Certainly in settlements. External to settlements where fresh (FRESH) water was available they may well have drunk that, yes.

And yes beer is made from water, but relatively speaking the process of fermentation would have made it cleaner than most readily available sources of water within settlements, that were not on flowing waterways.

Like I said there's a huge amount of waterfalls in Skyrim with a very large volume of water passing through them, all clean, fresh water. Most are within range of local cities and towns so it's not far fetched to believe merchants would collect water to sell to the townsfolk.

Ale and mead are made out of water but the grains in making ale and mead are turned into a sugar form then yeast is added.
This creates the fermentation of turning these sugars into alchohol,no known germs can survive this brewing process.
This is why ale and mead were favored over water in history.

I would love to be able to have bottles and refill them with what ever drink/potion I like. If I want water, I go to the stream and refill the bottle, if I want milk I go to the farmer and ask if I can have some milk, and so on.

I also want animations for when you eat and drink.

^This. One of my hobbies is brewing (mostly mead).

It also doesn't matter how clean or free flowing (waterfalls included) the water looks, bacteria, protozoans (like Giardia), and parasitic worms (like Guinea Worm) are most likely present. I hate beer, but would drink it before I drank unboiled water.

Cheese?

Btw, funny thing is, real life Germanic and Scandinavian ancient cultures consisted mainly of milk-drinkers. According to Caesar, milk, cheese and meat were what they ate ;)
(Though before the invention of the fridge, the milk usually was made into some form of sourcream or yoghurt. Hard to keep milk fresh, you know.)

There's apples. Apple Juice. Plus, there's blood, and lot's of it. And with all the vampires and their covens or hideouts or whatever, where are their goblets filled with blood?

Edit: Pee. I want to drink pee, or be able to. And maybe, turn my pee into water like from that old movie I don't remember the name of.. Waterworld or something.
