ALTHOUGH this is basically a different company, I think in NV when you buy your own house (which I don't doubt that you can) you should be given ways to upgrade it like in Oblivion. When you bought the Skingrad house, it was useless, with no tables or boxes or anything, no beds and stands. You bought these papers pretty much across the street, and they automatically were placed in your house. Spend 25k on a house, then 25k upgrading it. In Fallout 3 you had a simple house that you could ONLY change the theme (which was basically useless) and add about five items like the Nuka Cola machine, or the Chemistry lab. I want it in NV where you might have to do a quest to get your house, but it's not mandatory. The thing I would really like would be getting the house with basically NOTHING in it except a bed and a toilet or something. Then, you can upgrade it, maybe giving you a better bed (+health maybe after sleeping a couple of hours?) and a better sink giving you less thirst. You would basically buy stands, bookcases, and safes as you please. An extreme bonus, though I doubt it will happen, is if you can change the way everything is set up. By that, I mean you can change where a table or chair is placed, or change the position of the bed or something along those lines. We don't need it, though it might be cool.
Renting a bed for the night or the week in a flop house is one thing, but I never looked kindly on the notion of buying a house in Fallout; and never will. It goes entirely against the spirit of the series IMO.
In FO1 the Vault dweller approached his actions with the intention of returning home (like a guy climbing down a manhole after his keys expects to not get comfortable while he's down there walking in sewage). In FO2 it was the same. The Chosen one expected to return to Arroyo a hero. In FO3 the LW should only be concerned with reaching their dad ~not wasting time on a house.
For those that play PC's that dislike the dad or choose to ignore the main point of the game (the MQ), a house should be a real endeavor to obtain, and the only quicksale properties should IMO be sold by someone who thinks they have a gullible nutcase that's willing to pay them actual money for something they could simply just move into anyway (IE. not someplace safe, or that you won't loose your stuff in).
BATHROOM:
Basically added in hardcoe mode. You have to use the toilet every six hours (for balance) or something. If you eat, it increases the amount. Though it may seem TOO hardcoe (I guess?), I'm only thinking of this because of the toilets and how you DRANK OUT OF THEM. When I first played FO:3 I was thinking, "Hmph, maybe I can go to the bathroom?" BUT NO. MY SICK [censored] OF A CHARACTER DRANK DIRTY, IRRADIATED TOILET WATER. WHAT THE HELL? I would have puked IRL.
Some of the Build Engine games allowed this, and had reasons for it built in; it was funny, and beneficial ~then it became a corny cliche. In Fallout (any) I think it adds nothing of note, and would further complicate the game with a useless feature. *If they did this, though (which they wont), I'd want it to copy Postal 2 and work generally the same way.
