Obsidian Entertainment's next project: South Park RPG

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:39 am

I was surprised at the cover reveal over at GI. Not really surprised at a South Park game though

Maybe....just maybe they won't be trying to make a serious game.Yea I know it's a long-shot since South Park is so well known for its story and drama.

Deeper characters and a coherent premise would be enough. :P

I could maybe see this for something like the (old-school) Simpsons, but South Park...?

I can see it happening, a coherent premise isn't exactly South Park. Maybe something like the imagination Land episodes. Trust me I don't expect story of the year but I think it has potential.

I think they'll make jokes of Bioware romance scenes, and then Skyrim dragons flying backward, and Kenny took an arrow to the knee...

You know... knowing how Parker and Stone write their scripts... that's probably not too far off haha

Ok, my interest level has risen from "WTF?" to "Ooh!". Given I've loved the other three Obsidian games I've played (KotOR 2, New Vegas, Alpha Protocol), I'm getting rather hopeful about this.

Is it bad that I'm more excited for this than Mass Effect 3 or Kingdoms of Amalur?

THQ as the publisher worries me because they will milk the hell out of DLC's for the game. Should be an ambious/good title, it all depends on who the director is and what type of RPG will it be.

I'm hoping that the Coon and Friends will make an appearance.

I'll get it. I actually thought Alpha Protocol was pretty fun, bugs/gameplay issues aside, and I liked NV quite a bit.

I hope Manbearpig makes its way in the game.

I think they GI article said Trey Parker and Matt Stone were writing the scripts. So don't need to worry about that :)

Seems kinda odd that they would get Obsidian to do it since Trey and Matt are writing the dialogue/story.

"Obsidian developed a dynamic lip-syncing tool to accommodate changes to the script."

Sounds cool, but I'm sure the very nature of the mouths makes this possible. So it might not be necessarily ground-breaking.
