NO online elements ?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:00 pm

I love the story , love the single player mode , but i have often thought it would be great to have an online world that is part game / part social networking medium . an online wastland where you can shoot it out with others online . im just suprised that no online elements whatsoever are in this . ill probably purchase ... but theirs a whole line of games coming out then that do have online that are must haves for me . so i probably wont get it at release ... nice to see 3 wasnt the last after all .

Fallout is a single player franchise. Tacking on multiplayer just lowers the quality of the game.

It got leaked during the Interplay/Bethesda court case that Bethesda was working on an MMO in the style of WOW. Personally, I hate the [censored] out of this idea, and hope they stick to what they know. Clearly it isn't a Fallout MMO, as the title points out, also because Interplay is developing the Fallout MMO, but I also hope it isn't an Elder Scrolls MMO.

Ideally its supposed to invoke a tremendous feeling of isolation amidst the desolation and remains of the world. That can't really happen when playing online with buddies.

If you want to shoot at buddies in a wasteland get borderlands, its great for online play. but not all games need online to make them good, multiplayer is used to hide the fact that its single player isnt that good (CoD)

I'll just put in my gun and point it at the OP.

There will be no multiplayer or any online elements (Besides Steam functionality) in New Vegas.

However, there is a thread for the discussion of multiplayer in future Fallout titles http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/976152-fallout-multiplayer-discussion-thread/.

Multiplayer is NOT required for a game to be good. Obsidian is well aware of this, as is Bethesda.

The Fallout series does NOT need any sort of online. The vast open-world game is best for single player.Anyway if you want some sort of game where you shoot your bodies, there are tons of other online games with that or you could wait for Rage as it's been said by the devs that it'll have online.

Fallout is much more of a single player experience having you develop a character with a background and choosing his/her moral decisions all while shaping the world around you for better or worse, Tacking on multiplayer just isn't Fallout at all. :tops:

There's already plans for a Fallout MMORPG, go talk about it on the Interplay forums, we don't care. Don't ruin our New Vegas experience by trying to add some B.S. multiplayer using an engine not designed for it and a game that has no need for it.

Honestly, even though it was going to happen sometime, I never really expected to see a thread about online in New Vegas. Now that I have, I strongly disagree with online for any Fallout game that will ever be created or is currently being created.

Yao Guai? Tough. Floaters? Frustrating. Sticky? Makes me commit suicide. The LAST thing I want is walking around trying to buy something merchants for some 13 year old moron to go 'LOLOLOLOL I BETAR DAN YU [censored]. I KIL YU WIT MAI FATMAN CUZ IT EXPLODE AND DAT MEN IT CUL'

It's best left to its current 'online elements' aka DLC packs.

Multiplayer just wouldn't work in a Fallout game.

This is, of course, disregarding the fact that I registered on the V13 site. :whistling:

Co-op would be best, I think online is a little too far and would ruin the Fallout vibe although it would be great for role playing but i'm sure it won't happen in the next Fallout game.

I think if they took the Fable 3 approach and made it campaign co-op that wouldn't be so bad. It would be just the same as having a follower who could do more and react better. Online play like CoD. Not so much.
