My opinion on all the people who want Dawnguard to be someth

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:31 am

Yeah, the trailer doesnt confirm the Dovahkiin as having to be a vampire, it was just for a dramatic flare. For those like me who would never be a vampire or a werewolf Other than when you dont have a choice) Dawnguard is mainly about new weapons and armor and possibly finally a faction like the Vigils of Stendarr. That is all I want really.

Still there's no denying that the makers of TES have made plans for the PC with their DLC before. Take the Shivering Isles for instance. The Champion of Cyrodil is meant to take on the mantle of the Mad God and become the next Sheogorath. Its even referenced in Skyrim. Just because you didn't buy The Shivering Isles or didn't play through to the end doesn't mean that the devs have a hand in the fate of the PC. Ultimately they have the control and can rewrite (at least in lore) what became of your character.
So, what I meant was that this time the devs seem to be bent on making the dovahkiin a vampire the same way they meant for him to become the Mad God in the last add-on.

a few quests that feature a few people that are werewolves (but is really about revenge) does not a werewolf quest-line make and 5 (just a wild guess, but it might be right) quests that you dont even need to use magic in does not a mage quest-line make. besdes, werewolves are underpowered and mages are so horribly nerfed in ths game that it is insulting to the lore writers

The quest-line for the mages college is not a mage quest-line? Excuse me?
Granted, Bethesda dropped the ball when they made it possible for you to become master of the college with only 100 magicka and having never cast a single spell in your life, but still the intent is still for a mage quest-line. End of argument.

My only problem with a "Vampire" DLC is that they'll have to do the Nerevarine thing of .. oh he went to Akavir.. to make sure he dont show up to help when things go bad...
Huh? The whole "Neverarine went to Akavir" thing was just a rumor to help explain why he's not around anymore. I don't see what that has to do with Dawnguard any more than vanilla Skyrim.

If sombody said that they would like spells in the DLC, they probably did not mean JUST spells.

What they were asking for was "more mage content." Pretty general if you ask me.
That's a misquote though. The author of the thread was actually asking "what do mages get from Dawnguard? Nothin'?"
Honestly, a new mage faction seems unreasonable, and new items, spells, etc. seems pretty vanilla.
So, what does he expect to get from it? Realistically.

No? You didn't get an option in Shivering Isles. The trailer for the DLC outright states that you have a choice. I fully expect a second trailer will be released soon that focuses more on the Dawnguard.

Enough about the Neverarine. If he doesn't make an appearance I'll be even more thrilled. If he's not even mentioned I'll be the most thrilled I could possibly be with this add-on.
Its just a lame thing they put into lore to make your character seem more powerful and make you the player go "Squee!"
In my view, the PC is the PC. He's just a normal guy like any NPC except his controls are in your hands. YOU are what make him special. He's nothing. He's not a god. He's not Super Man or Spider-man or Mr. Incredible... No more than the product of circumstance.
Turning the PC into a god, like I said, is just something game developers to do give you the illusion of being super-powered, but then you die and you reload your last save and guess what? You're not invincible. You're not a god. You're just a mortal who thinks he's a god, but in reality you're the poor sod sitting on the couch with a controller in his hands playing a game where he thinks he's a god.
Enough.

First, I wasn't talking about you.
Second, I'm not some entitled brat. I don't think vampires deserve content any more or less than others. Additionally I don't think anyone SHOULDN'T get more content.
Third, I'm actually on the same page as you. I think people should stop asking for what they're never going to get. Its not that werewolves had their DLC and now its over, and its not that vampires should have DLC. The only thing I'm saying is Dawnguard is Dawnguard. Its a vampire add-on. That's just the way it is.

There are a lot of people who seem to want a lot of different things out of Dawnguard, but its not the next Elder Scrolls game, its just a Skyrim add-on. There will be new content. There won't be enough new content for everyone. Get over it.

I understand there won't be enough content for everyone.

I have been on the forum long enough to know that bethesda could include a gold brick with every copy of the game and people would still complain it was lacking.

whatever I have said I mean to get one point across: the people who want werewolf content have every right to want it. It doesn't mean they will get it in this DLC, it doesn't mean they will ever get it, but they have that right.

I think the problem may be the wording, I think most here are simply excitedly writing statements that they want it to be in dawnguard. (I will come out and say it, I want dawnguard to be about werewolves  I have seen the trailer now though and I am perfectly happy with it as it is.)

What they really want to know is if something for werewolves will be included, you can say this is just about vampires but you cannot be sure can you?

If bethesda is not planning on making any DLC later that has anything to do with werewolves, this would be the best place to put it. It fits the whole dark theme.

what proof could you have that they did not stick a werewolf perk tree in there to make werewolf players happy because they know they are not going to make any DLC that relates any closer to werewolves than this?

... lol my reasoning comes with a whole lot of "ifs"
but hopefully you get the point. We know the DLC is for the vampire players, but there is no reason for bethesda to not include a little update for us just because "it doesn't fit with vampires"

YOU had a choice. The devs retconned that choice when they made Skyrim.
I wouldn't be surprised if in TES VI: Breaking Dawn the sun is blotted out because the vampire lords succeeded and the lore mentions how the dovahkiin turned vampire lord had a hand in doing it.

True enough. But at this point, we don't know the extent of what content will be present in Skyrim. Vampires vs. Dawnguard looks like the main event, but a $20 DLC is bound to have a number of sideshows as well. That said, I'm personally quite excited to have my character join the Dawnguard, explore that cool castle and whatever other new areas will be present, and use a crossbow as a secondary weapon. But I hope that the content is enough to justify the price.

Personally, I would be surprised, but not because they defined a canon version. I think that is common industry practice. But I would be surprised if they made such a large change to the world as blotting out the sun. Personally, I think that the vampire victory will be smaller scale, though I do not know what.

Oh absolutely. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not trying to put anyone down or make little of their claims, but honestly let's be real...the focus of this add-on is vampires. I'm sure its not JUST vampires...there will be plenty of other content as well...but when everyone starts asking for specific content simply because that content isn't in the add-on all it is is mass stupidity and it makes me sick.
I want people to realize that the add-on is (mostly) finished. You'll get new content. It might not be specifically the new content you're asking for, but too bad so sad game over.

I understand people wanting more content for themselves. Hell I'm guilty of that. Now that I've seen the trailer I'm really hyped for all the new vampire content, but I'm not disappointed there isn't...say...more Thieves Guild content or something like that. Werewolves have their place in Skyrim. Mages too. Some more than others. The add-on is an add-on. It gives us a little more content--just a LITTLE more. It is not a complete game.

Today I've seen a pure mage wanting more mage stuffs from the new add-on. Honestly the only new mage stuff I can think that they can give us is more spells, which is pretty lame if you ask me.

I've also seen countless people who want new werewolf content "Vampires are getting new content. Why not werewolves? Its only fair."

Well, I've got news for anyone who wants more than a "vampire-only" add-on. You already have all that stuff.
Vampires don't have ANYTHING in Skyrim. You can become a vampire or you can cure yourself of the disease, and sure it gives you some pretty neat powers, but that's about it. There is no vampire faction. There are no vampire-related quests. Its not story-related in any way. In a way its almost on par with an Easter egg since assuming you DON'T know about vampirism you could easily cure disease and be done with sanguinare vampiris before it runs its unholy course...not to mention it was damn hard for me to find a vampire nest without consulting my guidebook and harder still to catch it because of my Argonian blood.

Werewolves have a faction. The Companions ARE werewolves and they're also the Fighter's Guild of Skyrim (need I remind you how HUGE the three Guilds are canonically?) There's a whole bunch of quests for them and they're all about being a werewolf, killing things in werewolf form, and generally doing werewolf things. You even get armor (granted you can't wear it in beast form, but at least you get a transformation)

Mages have the College. Again, BIG. Its a guild. It has a bunch of quests. You do mage stuff. There are spells and staves and robes and lots of mage items. Playing a mage comprises a whole THIRD of ALL the skills available in-game. Including all those skills, perks, spells, items, and quests that's a lot more content than you get from lycanthropy and vampirism COMBINED.

Are you starting to get the picture? Vampires are lacking content. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have no faction, no quests (except for The Cure), no items, nothing. The only thing vampires have going for them is the powers you get from it...oh and dreading that moment when you exit fast travel only to discover you're now a blood-starved (stage four) vampire and all the local NPCs are now hostile to you.

This add-on corrects the lack of vampire content. Now we get a questline, a faction, a cool transformation, and hopefully some new powers or items or...or...something!
Everyone who wants more of the content they already have is just being greedy xP

Can't agree enough, great post!

The thing is I'm not saying there WON'T be werewolf content or mage content or any specific kind of content. Even I don't know that for sure. And I'm not saying Dawnguard is a "vampire-only" add-on. I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff for everybody.

I just find it really annoying when people ask for things at the last minute. Again, let's be real, this is only an add-on. Its not a complete game. You already have the complete game. Asking for more content to be stuffed into an add-on at the last minute is not only unreasonable, its unintelligible.

If the content is there, its there. If its not, its not. Don't be disappointed if there isn't new werewolf content and don't be disappointed if there's no new mage stuff either. Don't be disappointed if the whole thing is Skyrim vanilla + vampires vs. Dawnguard (crossbows, demon mounts, capes, and nothing else). Its just an add-on.

I bought Shivering Isles and watched my little brother play through it for hours. I was too busy trolling around Cyrodil and pretending like I gave a skeever's tail about the main quest to bother with the expansion. He loved it and there was certainly a great amount of content. Granted I got it for about five bucks on discount but it was worth a $20 price tag hands down.

For some reason I always liked exploring random caves and wind up ignoring the main quest, but I always make a point of doing my favorite guild quests (Dark Brotherhood for life). When add-ons come out I'm kinda just "meh"

Bloodmoon was about werewolves. It wasn't JUST werewolves. I'm sure they added plenty of cool new armors and stuff.
Same with Shivering Isles. Added some cool new armors and stuff, a new area to explore, and a new quest-line all about the Mad God himself.
The only thing we know for certain about new content is that its new. We don't know for certain what exactly will be in it. What I'm really trying to drive home and get through people's thick heads here is that this add-on happens to focus on vampires. Asking for more mage content or werewolf content is like asking for Shivering Isles to expand more on the other Deadric Princes BESIDES Sheogorath.
Its a story about Sheogorath. The other guys are not involved. Sorry.
There will of course be new spells, armors, weapons, and generally new "stuff" for everyone to enjoy, but the story is about this, not that.
Same thing with Dawnguard. The story is about vampires. Vampires will be getting the best stuff. Everyone else will be getting vanillas like crossbows, new mounts, and capes.

Making a new thread to replace this one titled "Dawnguard is about vampires"

here's the first post:

"There will undoubtedly be new content that everyone can enjoy, however the focus of the story this time around (just like Bloodmoon was about werewolves--not vampires--and Shivering Isles was about the Mad God--not the other deadric princes) is on the conflict between vampires and the Dawnguard.

Vampires will probably be getting the best stuff (at least a cool transformation judging from the trailer) and everyone else will be getting vanilla content like new armors, weapons, spells, crossbows, and capes.

Stop asking for additions at the last minute."

So what do you all think? Did I get my point across better this time?
I would say roughly 75% of the content will this whole vampire vs. Dawnguard conflict, and the remaining 25% will be a handful of other stuff--random general things like armor, weapons, spells, crossbows, and capes.
Its like everyone asking for more of this or more of that is clamoring for that 25% to be all about what I want, like children shouting "gimme gimme gimme!!" cuz somebody just cracked open a pinata....
Its annoying. That's all I meant.

They aren't asking for things last minute. A lot of us have been voicing our desires for DLC for quite a while now. It's understandable if our first taste of DLC is something that doesn't include the things we personally wanted most. You can argue it will be in the next expansion, but it might not.

It's the same with bug fixes in the patches. I'm continually disappointed that they haven't fixed some bugs pertaining to the Thieves' Guild. You might not care about these fixes, but I do, and it is bothersome that every time there's a new patch, I see that what I was looking for wasn't included and I have to email Bethesda and pm Gstaff to voice my complaints, then sit around waiting months for a new patch only to see that nothing came from it once again.

There's nothing wrong with wanting things that have yet to be advertised. If nothing else, it gives them an idea of what they should include in future add-ons.

As of right now, I'm not expecting anything for mages, warriors, thieves, or werewolves. I'm expecting stuff for vampires and that's about it. However, I do want things included for everything because then it will be more fun.

I agree with you, people who are asking for content to be added at this point, its not gonna happen.
If werewolf content is not already in, it's not going to be.

I was arguing for the sake of people hoping and speculating whether werewolf content was already in, just not the focus of the DLC.

I will be slightly disappointed if Dawnguard doesn't have any new werewolf content, but hey its just a small hope - nothing that's gonna keep me from buying it.
