Hated it, the stupid collars and the annoying holograms were enough to where I didn't feel it was important enough to finish it.

I'm enjoying it as it's difficult in a different way from the more usual tougher enemies.

I liked it - great story, sense of danger and trepidation and some tricky puzzles as opposed to your average run 'n' gun.

I enjoyed it. It was totally different from anything else in the wasteland. Was it annoying at parts? Oh yeah it was. By the time I got to the vault, I had enough of speakers and holograms. All in all though, my money was well-spent. Now I want the NEXT one.

Not done with it yet, but I don't forsee me getting sick of the established gameplay elements. Great writing, interesting characters, terrifying enemies, and better survival horror than any Resident Evil game I've played.

Pretty intense, overall, and I thought it was well done. I spent a fair amount of time at half health or less, low on ammo. There was a point where I had no ammo left, and I was using melee (my melee skill was 16 at the time), and I had no doctor's bags, and every body part was crippled. And it seemed that the enemies were everywhere. I thought the game had kicked my @ss. It was challenging, and I like that. It felt like I was running one long marathon of a gauntlet. Like Vault 34, when you're underequipped, only a lot longer.

I thought it was good, and definitely more "fallout style" than Fallout 3's first DLC, Operation Anchorage.
I mean Anchorage was a simulation, with health and ammo stations as opposed to regular looting, and no (non glitch) way to bring your loot out. This served to detach the whole experience from the main game in a rather jarring way- nothing you ever did in the DLC mattered. It would have been a nice quest in the main game at about one quarter of its length. It was also lacking in story and dialogue which amounted to not much more than "Hoooah let's get those commies, remember Anchoraaaage!"

Dead Money, on the other hand, manages to be a self contained experience without being a completely detached simulation. You're expected (in the fallout fashion) to scavenge, explore, and craft from things you find to survive, as opposed to O:A where you blasted a linear path through digital chinese soldiers from one health/ammo station to the next. These things you take the time to gather can then be brought back to the main game, as well as codes for the vending machine in your new bunker which can continue to serve your needs after the game. This alone makes the DLC superior to Anchorage, where no matter what you did, you always got the same super powerful equipment every time- there was never any incentive to play things differently the next time, to go looking for something you may have forgotten on the first run.
There's also a good story to be found, for those who care to read the terminals and talk to all the characters. The excellent dialogue and the fantastic delivery of the voice actors really make it for me. You can find classic fallout themes like the pre-war world ruined by human nature- greed, jealousy and hatred. You can also see the failed attempts to begin again- the failure of the Madre's purpose echoes the uncompleted vision of the GECK.

The ghost people were a challenging enemy, and actually had some pretty neat AI tricks- I'd like to see more critters being crafty like them in future games.
I actually kind of liked the radios/speakers- there was only one particularly nasty one in the vault that I hated. The cloud was only annoying on hardcoe, which i turned off. I might try it again and just try to run through the DLC, as something that constantly removes my health while outside seems to necessitate such a play style.

What exactly was arcade about it? I get the SAW part but it didn't feel "arcad-ey" to me. No points for killing enemies, no instant health and ammo pickups (I'm looking at you O:A) and the levels aren't designed solely to try and get you to put another coin in a slot- that's what defines "arcade" to my mind.

Unless you were talking about Arcade Gannon. :teehee:

I don't consider it to be part of the main game cause it isn't.
It's an isolated story that is nothing else but an arcade game that plays out with the same gameplay mechanics and graphics as the game that supports it.
Don't really care that we had fallout elements in it, cause it felt nothing like Fallout.
Felt like some SAW inspired thing.
So, to me it was an arcade game that plays out with the same gameplay mechanics and graphics.
For me to actually call it DLC would be if the DLC had at least "something" to do with the main game.
(Father Elijah and Ulysses info does not count as they were just as isolated as the rest of the DLC, the only thing that added to the main game was the extra Veronica dialogue and the +5 level cap(Which I hate))

I really don't get where people keep getting this SAW thing from, you get an explosive collar and if you don't obey you die... so? I thought it was good, the end reward is mainly a huge stack of money but it's a casino, I wasn't expecting a weapon or anything. Of course the game-breaking Sierra Madre Vending Machine is a reward and it greatly sped up my Weapon Repiar Kit making, I can also finally use those 56 Fission Batteries for something! I liked it, I liked the characters, expecially Dean. The others I couldn't really take notice of, my character doesn't permit it but I could tell they were good even if I didn't exhaust every option. Christine reminded me of playing Fallout 1 and 2, the way all the movements are just text, I liked that; Dog/God was okay but I didn't really use him, I only had God selected and his smug, holier-than-thou, "Copper and other pre-war gold", pre-war is evil, blah-blah, "I wish I had a stealth boy" ([censored] hypocrit!) just ment I didn't use him much, mutie bastard. Elijah, I wished there were more options with him, like telling him I destroyed Hidden Valley or that I activated ARCHIMEDES II. Silly old fool.

I loved the look of the Madre Casino, reminded me of the only game better than Fallout, BioShock; gave me real good nostalgic memories of my favourite from, of spoilt glory and what-not. Shame I can't [censored] go back there! I mean why? Let us go back, find a way! But it was good, loved that song that Vera sings "Begin Again". It was playing in the Madre Lobby and the damn Ghost People wouldn't stop coming, anyone's who reads the New Manhattan thread should know I like have my last stand type battles and that's what it felt like. I was
at the top of the stairs, Holorifle in hand, the creepy sad music was playing and I seriously thought I was [censored].

Dead Money is definately a win as far as I'm concern, should anyone in the company read this, DO NOT PULL THIS STUNT WITH THE BIG EMPTY DLC, I WANT TO GO BACK THERE!

Well don't get me wrong I absolutely love this arcade game, I really do.
It was almost as good as operation anchorage. (I love O:A the most.)
But it's whole survival horror feel it got going didn't exactly rub my sweet spot so to speak.

I dunno what it is with O:A but I just love it.
I see why others hate it and I often agree with them... Yet... There's something about O:A that makes me love it.

I didn't like it. I have like 4 characters that would benefit from the loot but I could only bring myself to play through it once, I was so bored. Perhaps I'm just Fallouted-out? I'm waiting for Skyrim.

I'm just giving you a hard time :). For all the things I disliked, I did really enjoy the story, getting to play through a very historical event in the fallout universe was cool.

Now, back to the topic at hand. Sorry OP.

I liked Dead Money in general. Earlier in its release many people didn't like it, but I try things out for myself. It definitely gave me a good twelve hours of great horror atmosphere and play my first run of it. Dodging holograms in the suites and the countless ghost people fights were just entertaining, as was fighting for my life through the hazards the entire expansion.
By far my favorite part was the introduction of new objects and items into the game. I've started a new character just for this DLC, in fact.
Christine was easily my favorite companion, and her character work and back story was fairly thorough. I wished there was more to do for her afterwords, but I get that it's not possible. God's sinister voice and his demeanor toward the PC was also quite impressive.
So, a thumbs-up for Dead Money.

I thought it was OK there was a lot to do and helped keep the game fresh, however it is a little annoying that you cannot return to Sierra Madre but I'm sure many of you would agree that you would'nt really want to. I hope the next DLC is slightly better though. I think one DLC will be based at area 51 because it is in nevada near Nellis AFB, but I hope there is cool weapons and armor but no aliens..... no-one wants another mothership zeta!

I kinds liked Mothership Zeta. Lol. I just downloaded this today, and so far it isn't too bad. It does seem to me to have more of a horror/survival feel than the main game does, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I just HATE not having my weapons with me. It annoys me that I need to scrounge for this and that and use weapons I don't like to use(melee and unarmed). If the reward is only caps, well, that svcks 'cause I don't need them, but it is still a pretty good story so far. I also despise the utter lack of healing stuff around. I could use a stimpack, lol.

Not part of the game does not equal arcade game. Despite the fact that it's very obviously "part of the game" in the same way that other quests in the main game don't have anything to do with the main story, even if it wasn't "part of the main game" it still wouldn't make it "arcade".
Your definition of DLC is a bit weird too. DLC=Down-Loadable Content, obviously, so any content that you can download in relation to a game even is by definition DLC.
I also think that you misjudge the story as being detached from the main one. Certainly, the DLC looks completely separate from the main game, but what you are missing is that it will have a lot to do with the other DLCs.

You see, it's very obvious from Dead Money that it is setting up a story arc with the future DLCs. This story arc, while separate from the main story, will consist of the collective of DLCs released for it. Consider it an expansion by installments. Together, each DLC will tell a different part of this new storyline. So while Dead Money seems detached now, it will not seem so later when one can see two coherent storylines- that of the original game and the DLC storyline.

Well don't get me wrong I absolutely love this arcade game, I really do.

What, exactly is your definition of "arcade" game? Am I missing something here? I've already given my definition, and DM ain't it.
To simplify, HOW is Dead Money "arcade"?
