parents won't let me play.

Post » Mon Jul 16, 2012 9:59 am

My parents won't let me play skyrim for some reason. I've respected their decisions up until now, but it's not them I'm mad at. It's Gamestop. You should have heard what they said about, all to make sure I couldn't't play it. Nudity, [censored], six, for a few examples. Now, my mom won't negotiate it, or even tolerate it's mention without uninstalling Morrowind and breaking my oblivion in half. What do I do now???

This is an M rated game, right? You should be 17.

He doesn't need to be 17. He should be mature enough to understand the content. I was playing M games since I was 13.

I would argue that many other games rated the same (and lower) offer much more violent experiences in a much more real-like world.

If she is threatening of uninstalling morrowind and breaking oblivion, you better shut up about it. Honestly, there is no six in the game whatsoever. My mom originally wouldn't let me play oblivion, but then I told her to just watch me play for ten minutes and then she what she thinks. After she saw me play she said she didn't care if I played or not, but then again, she wasn't threatening me with anything. If I were you, I would just be happy with what I have.

Yeah, but there is nothing really screams mature, it should have gotten a T rating. Part of the problem is that all games are rated M, games that would have been rated T in the last console generation are now rated M for some reason.

If morrowind was released today, I'm sure it would have gotten an M rating, for example

Its not nice. Why dont you show them the game, so they can watch and learn what you play ? Perhaps they understand.
I played Doom when I was 9 years old, my father bought it to me in one diskette haha.

Well if you can't respect your parent's wishes, then you obviously aren't mature enough to play Skyrim.

This is called "parenting". If you are not old enough to buy the content yourself, then its at the discretion of your parent or gaurdian. While your parent has been mis-informed about the game (there is no six, or nudity) they have still decided that until you are old enough in their eyes you wont be playing it. svcks for you I know but thats life. When you are a parent in later life you will do similar things with your child gaming choices.

find a job, move out, get your own house and computer and games, play the damn game, but you can't because of stupid child labor laws, so if you have to blame someone, blame the government. they be all up in my business

Well, you're parents aren't perfect, I was at a young age when I realised my dad was a conniving and malicious SOB, and my mom is such a terrible judge of character to a debilitating fault. And I have good reasons for this, not just anger that they won't give me a game

These threads about parents not letting you play specific M rated games never garners much sympathy and rightfully so. They are your parents and there's nothing we can do to change their mind on the matter.

And there is no nudity in this game, and definitely no six. The back of the game case only says sixual Themes and that's even really a stretch. The most nudity you see is character's wearing like burlap underwear. You can see worse at a public beach.

They won't let you play it, so find a different game rated T. Get some older games for the PS2 or something. If you can't play the game currently, then don't bother them until you can talk about it in a less stressful situation.

This is complex family issues, it has absolutely nothing to do with video games.

It seems to me it's like everything else. In some States if there's a dusting of snow they cancel school. Why? Because of the slight chance something could happen. They'd rather be safe than get sued. Same with the weather forecasters. Oh it's going to be SNOW, get your supplies.. and it's a centimeter of snow. Games are the same way, parents who are okay with it aren't going to be mad if they say sixual content and there really isn't any. Parents that have a problem, will be mad if they don't say anything and there's just a slight hint of it. Better to be safe than sorry.

I find the problem with this is that 95% of all games are rated M, as opposed to the last generation of consoles where there were many more T rated games
