parents won't let me play.

I personally think that the world would be a less annoying place if people didn't talk about video games and instead talked about cool stuff like cars or something

It seems like every conversation has some mention of COD nowadays

This. I've played T and higher games when I was a pre-teen *gasp* and I'm pretty alright now. Nothing wrong with kids seeing nudity, violence, "advlt" language or whatever, it exists.

OP, I hope you settle it out, since I don't know how to help you. Unlike in other things, my parents are pretty ok with whichever games I play. I wish you well!

I find that the rating has more to do with the intended audience of the game rather than the appropriate minimum age someone could play. A lot like speed limits, I find most of the time, people actually go above the speed limit slightly because that is what the natural flow of traffic is.

Also, I first realized this when I got Rise of Nations for my 10th birthday. My dad was tentative about me playing a T rated game a 10, but after he saw what it was he didn't care. He made the comment that he thought it was rated T because he didn't think a little kid would be able to understand the mechanics rather than the actual violence being too inappropriate

People do take video games to seriously though. If they end up getting themselves killed or arrested I call it cleaning the gene pool.

Yeah, but there is nothing really screams mature, it should have gotten a T rating. Part of the problem is that all games are rated M, games that would have been rated T in the last console generation are now rated M for some reason.

If morrowind was released today, I'm sure it would have gotten an M rating, for example

Decapitation, blood, gore, mostly naked zombies(what got Oblivion it's rating btw). Nudity isn't the only thing.

Oh yeah, and skooma(drugs) could also get it a M rating.

Don't get me started on COD I have heard 5 year olds saying they would [censored], and screaming and cursing into the mic. Personally I think they should start pumping kids up with Amphetamines at a early age. Imagine a world were children were quiet no longer little brat, who [censored] and moan about everything that happens.

Because people weren't sheltered idiots in 1994. Or whenever Arena came out.

That would [censored] up...

well, everything.

It seems to me it's like everything else. In some States if there's a dusting of snow they cancel school. Why? Because of the slight chance something could happen. They'd rather be safe than get sued. Same with the weather forecasters. Oh it's going to be SNOW, get your supplies.. and it's a centimeter of snow. Games are the same way, parents who are okay with it aren't going to be mad if they say sixual content and there really isn't any. Parents that have a problem, will be mad if they don't say anything and there's just a slight hint of it. Better to be safe than sorry.

That only happens in places like Oregon, where people are so damned stupid about snow they put chains on their tires for a quarter inch. I swear to God I've never seen more snow stupid drivers than in Portland.

Where I come from, we don't put chains on the tires until the side roads get closed because of too much snow. And even then, tire chains, drop it into low range. God I love having a 4x4.

I'm fine with tech talk just as long as there is no mention of a MOAB or "noob tubes"

I liked it better when COD wasn't as popular and other games took center stage

This has more to do with the culture you are in, I mean, there have been greek tablets complaining about spoiled little brats who wouldn't listen to your parents. If you ever here someone who is middle aged telling you that this generation of kids think they can step all over their parents, I always think to myself "That's [censored], you just weren't aware of your rebellion because you see things differently as a kid"

Concerta and Ritalin are actually not going to make kids who don't have ADHD or ADD shut up. I take Concerta for my ADHD and it can make even someone with ADHD just walk through life with no enthusiasm.

The first Halo was rated M despite it really being more T rated from what I have heard. I know the Super Smash Bros games should be rated E10+. Is a freaking fat man farting and Pikachu beating up Mewtwo deserving of a T rating?!

Halo is essentially Robots vs. Purple Dinosaurs (that's what a child will likely register it as) and Call of Duty is paintball where people bleed money, kind of like that CS:For Kids mod for Counterstrike.

I'm talking about for myself at this point. All I'm saying is, sometimes you have to make an honest judge of your parents, perhaps it is a wrong judgement, perhaps you will feel differently when you are older, but you do have to decide for yourself.

You really have no right to do what you want when you're a child in the US.

it doesn't matter if his parents are morally wrong OMG THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END BECAUSE HE CANT PLAY A GAME or not, if they say no, and he does it anyways, his parents can punish him for it. He's expected to obey them. No judge on this planet is going to do anything to his parents because they didn't let him play games.

I knew kids that tried to do things they were told not to anyways and we sent those to boot camp.

Yeah, well you know how ratings are these days. They give Call of Duty and Halo the M rating.

The amount of violence.

Well, the thing is, there are either states with no snow at all, or states with a lot of snow. The states with a lot of snow, the people are prepared for it and have bought all the necessary equipment for getting around in the snow, so they rarely have a snow day, only if it is a massive blizzard or something. Whereas the states that get no snow or snow rarely are not prepared, because its cheaper to close down everything once or twice a year than it is to prepare for something like this
