Patch 1.02 does it even work?

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 3:38 pm

Anyone have an idea that say if I would start a new game, would the freezes stop, i think that it is worth a try cause it could be the saved data being bad.

For a while - at least. The freezes are going to happen even if you only get 1 or 2. But for the time being, deleting the game data should help you especially if you've experienced constant freezes, glitches etc..

I've restarted a new game from scratch. Got rid of everything, then reinstalled the whole thing. I'm actually impress, everything seems better, I still got a few hiccups, once in a while, but really not that much.
So I'd way the patch worked out pretty fine. Of course, I'll know more after 40-50 hours or so, that's when things usually get critical.

It is sad to say that but I am very dissapointed. Most of the "fixes" are giving the player extra ammo weapons and armor. The developers thought it would be more fun to have extra loot in a game you cant play? I really wish I had half the loot but play the game with no problems at all. I ignored 3-4 quests that bugged and couldn't finish (including the main one "House always wins, I") but when I lost Arcade Gannon and cannot find him anywhere in the game (have waited for 14 days still nothing) I got really frustrated. How can some extra weapons and ammo help me on that?

I don't know, i dl it and it seems to be working fine for me, everything seemed to be loading fine, and no black screens coming out of the 38 or even out of the mormon camp, don't know if any of you experienced that one. I've just finished playing after about two and a half hour period, and i didn't seem to experience any problems. and to boot i purposfully kept overlaping only one save file and still no probs (y)

Sorry to say, but its only a matter of time before your game craps out on you.

Seems to be running smoother for me, reinstalled it and started up from my save. First time I've played it in almost a month, and it still gets a little hiccup now and then, but no where near as bad as it was when I couldn't even play it.

There is a certain amount of leeway that must given to a game of this size, but come on!! Okay, the game freezes, I get a little frustrated and restart it. How in the world are they going to let a bug slip by them that makes continuing the main quest impossible. I refuse to restart the game. I CANNOT GET INTO THE NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE!!!!!! No matter what I do the guard just stand there with his back to me. What a joke!! I WAS a huge Bethesda fan, however I am almost fed up. We should not have to being posting bugs/glitches on forums for Bethesda to work out now. They pay people to do that, now we're paying them to be game testers?! I hope they put out a patch that really ties up ALL lose ends.

What the heck?!
Before the patch I got like one freeze every 5-6 hours. I just got the new patch and in an half hour I got one freeze and one restart of my PS3.

Before the patch my PS3 never restarted by itself, it only froze. Now it restarted by itself after a black screen for 1-2 seconds.

This truly svckS!

Can't believe I even gave this game a second chance.

Why don't you just tell us that you CAN'T fix the freezing problem, instead of giving us fake hope?!?! Why don't you address this problem?! You don't even mention it!

That's just it though they will never address the freezing issue I emailed tech support about it and i got a message saying something about a reply in 48 hours its been about 2 months now and still no reply...

Also I suggest you quit playing NV so you don't brick your PS3 I'd say sell the damn thing and go buy a game that isn't going to mess up so much.

I installed the patch the other day, and I didn't have any problems with one of my smaller, newer saves. but I tried loading a file I was having severe difficulties(ie. freezing every 5 seconds) with before the 1.02 patch, and about 10 mins in it froze, with no return. I went to get some coffee, came back and tried to start it up again and it froze shortly after, again without unfreezing. my save was approximately 7 mb, and I just recently restored the file system, so I don't think it's corrupt.

I'm going to take my collectors edition game and guide to the pawnshop this week, see what I can get for it. it seems the word has spread about the issues with the game, cause I can't sell it in the classifieds, and Gamestop takes [censored] all for it. I've been waiting to hear from Bethesda's "next level of support" who was supposed to get back to me about 2 weeks ago. doubt I'll ever hear from them.

I think there is improvement with 1.02, after all. At least, the frequency of freezing has been reduced to a tolerable rate. A couple areas still seemed to have problems, though. Forlorn Hope was painful. I went in and out as quickly as I could to finish quests because freezing seemed to happen more frequently, there. Bittersprings was bad, too. Everything was fine until I tried talking to a refugee -- play immediately started stuttering and pausing. This was only solved by exiting the game completely and then reloading a save. Camp Golf was slow, too. I hope this isn't going to happen at every well-populated area. I didn't really have any problems in Vault 3 or 11.

Here's some 101 Tips to keeping things smooth.
#1: The patch can't fix freezing issues on old saves period the files are to clogged with corrupted data from before the patch. Restoring the file system from "Safe Mode"[google it] will clear away any corrupted data and help smooth things out for a while.
#2 Turn off autosave on travel, a common place for a freeze is when entering a new area, it will happen less often if autosave on travel is off and you don't risk corrupting your autosave by having ro restart.

#3 Do not overwrite save data, your game will run much smoother and for much longer if you simply save to a new file each time and delete the old ones later.

#4 A lot of random *)*$@* can happen in this game, that causes a hiccup a one in hundred hiccup that stops something form happening that was supposed to happen. If you follow step #3 its a simple matter to reload an earlier save. Just because it happened to you doesn't mean it happened to anyone else.[BTY anyone have the terminal outside the solar array at Nellis disappear?]

I was just at Nellis and got in just fine and the board isn't full of people screaming about it so this probably isn't a common bug, it very well could be some random hiccup that only your suffering from. Did you try reloading from an earlier save? you didn't by chance enter through the train tunnel and are attempting to enter the gate at the east side of the base,

Well, this doesn't sound promising at all. I choose the 360 version and thought I'd come here to see how the PS3 patch was working, not well is what I'm getting in general. Since the 360 patch addresses the same issues as the PS3 I guess its still gonna run poorly, very disappointing.

If you guys are sour about it and want to tell someone who matters, not some rep who has no stake or nothing to do with it, the lead designer is easily found on twitter, and he doesn't' have many followers so he'll probably see your plea/rant

Patch worked OK for me. Not great, I got a freeze after appx 2 hrs of gameplay during my Gods - No Masters mission.
I created a character with STR 9 and he could only lift 230 pounds, is this to be expected?

Playing on a PS3 I have only occasionally had the game freeze up on me. My problem has been with NPC's. Since the patch I have had a NCR Ranger generate anytime I enter a room or building and start attacking me. Worse once dead (for he is a paper tiger) he regenerates over and over and over there is no eliminating this guy. What is more perplexing is I am liked by the NCR. I have tried kicking out my companions (currently I have EDe and Veronica) taking off the beret I got from Boone, and not wearing any faction armour; all to no avail. Sadly right now with this glitch, the game is completely unplayable.

The only way its Obsidian's fault is because they willingly used a broken game engine. So yes, I think they have some blame they should take, but the Gamebyro engine is really at fault for this mess of a game. So indirectly Obsidian's fault, directly Gamebyro's fault. And Bethesda slapped their name on NV some how they got Fo3 to work pretty stably but Obsidian can't seem to get NV to do the same. Might be a little early to say that, but I doubt Obsidian will ever be able to fix NV's stability. I don't remember Fo3 ever playing this sloppy even on launch. Probably because Obsidian threw in features that this broken engine can't handle.

Guys...when you will finally realise that patches cannot fix the freezes then you will live a more relaxed/confortable life.

I managed to fixed my freezing issue to an extent..I had to tell Rex to go back to Freeside, because having to companions causes my game to crash when I'm in a fight anywhere. Also it only now freezes when I try to load a game, which I'm fine with, everything else is running smoothly, got to Vault 22 with no problems. =]

This confuses me when you try to load a game it freezes? like an old save pre-patch or like loading a save when your already playing?
