Patch 1.02 does it even work?

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:24 am

This confuses me when you try to load a game it freezes? like an old save pre-patch or like loading a save when your already playing?

Oh sorry, I must've not been clear. See I had this save where I was at..umm..well I forgot but it's where you find a brain for Rex. Anyway, I had Rex and Cass with me, and when I try to fight enemies around me, my PS3 system would lock up and I'll have to restart. Even if I moved to another area...say the Sunset Factory, it'll still freeze if I fight. After the 1.02 patch, I thought I'll try questing again, still the same result. So what I did was turn off the music ( a guy on the forums suggested it.) and I had to send back Rex to Freeside :[, since having more then one companion freezes the game I'm gueesing. So far no more freezes, and the game is running somewhat smoothly, only freezing when I tried to load up a save from the pause menu, not the main menu.

I got another glitch/ bug, patch 1.02 is making things worse. Now, for some reason my companion dies, (in this case Boone). Guess the develloper or publisher don't care about many bugs and glitches in this game. Its too bad i am not good cursing in English.... Boyyy, would i like to vent my frustrations. Hopefully some hacker out there on the interwebs is also a big Fallout fan and has the same frustrations and good skills to make this clear. :homestar:

I downloaded the patch and played the game for about 40 minutes and the only thing I noticed was some lagging once and awhile. Doesn't bother me though.

Well i finally tried the new patch out today and the same crap keeps happening. I played for about an hour until the first freeze up. Reset my PS3 and tried again only to have it freeze up not more than 20 minutes later. After that it kept freezing up every 20 to 30 minutes. I give up and will trade in New Vegas before it destroys my PS3.

Simply put, after this patch, for me anyways, the game seems to freeze more often, but I can deal with that because I really enjoy the game. Slight graphic glitches and followers relocating themselves.... no problem for me. Before this patch my biggest complaint was when a few quests could not be completed. Now however, I have a bigger worry: I own one of the original (expensive) PS3's with backwards compatibility, and I take great care of all the electronics I own. I am not imagining this - my PS3 has never gotten so hot so quickly before. I have bought "Black Ops" (hours of online play with friends at a time) and "Gran Turismo 5" (hours of play) recently and I periodically put my hand on the system and check the temperature. With "Fallout New Vegas" it seems to work harder and get hotter, but no big deal. After 1.2 patch however, PS3 froze quickly after 20 or so minutes, so I shut it down and checked the temperature; VERY hot. Deleted patches and will only play with original 1.00 framework until next patch, and then hope for the best. Honestly, I hope I am wrong or it's just my system. Will be trying it on friend's system soon to verify. As long as my system keeps functioning, I will continue to play and enjoy this game with all of its flaws, glitches, bugs, and other imperfections, simply because it is that great of a game.

The way I see it everyone is entitled to do what ever the hell they want as long as its not harming other people, but I suggest you quit playing NV for the time being it will only harm your system. I mean its your business.if you want to risk it but I'm just saying I don't think its really worth playing at this present time. I for one have quit playing because NV corrupted my PS3 I wasn't able to get on PSN took probably a good 5 minutes to load each of my friends on my list and it was almost impossible to navigate through it. I went to the recovery menu and did #5 (don't remember what it is exactly) but it fixed everything for me. Kinda pissed me off when I had to reinstall all my games and lost all my saves, but eh my PS3 functions properly now.

froze on me within 5 minutes of playing, so i tried it again and teleported right away and it froze right away once i got to where i teleported to. So i uninstalled it and deleted everything and tried it again and froze on me same exact spot.

If you're seeing issues like this, you might need to revert back to an earlier save. Having an issue at the same point over and over is generally an indication of a save that's having issues. If you're not already, it's helpful to always make new saves files and not save over existing save files.

I hope that we doest mean WE in general, i played the game with my PS3 and asides with the crashes, the game is fine

Asides from the crashes, the game is fine?? Are you kidding me??? The crashes are the MAJOR issue with this game, No other game I have played on PS3 freezes requiring a dirty shutdown which is bad on the system - Your comment is baffling.. it is almost like saying aside from the killing, murder is fine...

well i think its rediculous that i need to start over when i already put 60 hours in with multiple saves screw it there are other games out there that work and are worth my time. My saves are at different points in the game and theyre all freezing up. I have 20 different saves because of experience with FO3. How about instead of me needing to fix saves Obsidian and Bethesda release a game that works, its not that much to ask.

These days it seems it is indeed to much to ask to have reliable and quality products with almost anything.I mean think about have you heard the music(pop, specifically) these days? Its terrible! Everything Is poor quality. Companies just put out crap and expect us to buy it. And we do because We can't get the products we want or need anywhere else...

It's ironic that the only reason I switched to console games is because I was tired of buggy PC games or new PC games with requirements that would force me to buy a new computer every two years. I was too naive.

Anywhoo, in a 4-5 hours span I only had to use the front touch power switch twice due to New Vegas freezing. Though there were a few more times in the same span where I preemptively quit to the main menu, quit the game, and started it, again. I did this as soon as I noticed the game start to stutter or pause. After doing this the game would be okay for the next while -- enough to get me past the point I had the most recent stuttering, at least.

One thing I find that helps is that when entering a new area I don't do *anything* (ie. don't even touch the controller) until all my companions show up, which sometimes can take a very long time, or not at all in Gannon's case, and to a lesser extent Rex. I found that if I moved off before my companions appeared the game would stutter and freeze. On the other hand, in the hotel in Westside neither of my companions followed me in and the game was smooth as silk while inside the building. I'd try playing without companions at all except that they're handy for carrying loot.

Speaking of companions, post-1.02 I've noticed that occasionally they get stuck, as if I'd told them to "wait", despite being set to follow. At least with 1.02 the local area map shows where they are, because sometimes I didn't notice until I was about to leave the area. When this happens I start a conversation with them and exit, and this seemed to reset them to follow me properly.

Overall, 1.02 has been an improvement, for me. If the game stays like this at least I should be able to complete the game. Though I'm dreading any big battles/sequences -- in G.I. Blues where Pacer is pinned down by gunfire the game was stuttering something fierce, and I don't even think of that sequence as being particularly big.

It's better but not perfect. I can go about 4 hours without getting a black screen or it freezing up on me. The mission "The House Always Wins II" is messed up and can not be done if Cassear is been killed. I also noticed some real funky lagging and jumpy graphics at the Gomorrah, esp. whenever going up or down stairs.

Sony recently updated their offical SDK on 12/05

Slim PS3 support is mandatory from here on out and 'phat' PS3 is optional

If you have a 'legacy' PS3 then do NOT expect any official support - all launch models and all PS2-capable models are no longer officially supported by Sony. If you have such a PS3, do not expect ANY software to work with it. You MUST buy a new slim PS3

Again with this? You're information is false and I've seen you post this on at least 3 other threads. Quit being ignorant and go find a better use of your time.

Dear Bethesda,
I am writing a polite letter to you through this forum.
Even though I am very upset and TBH angry, I am going to restrain my desire to rant and rage and attempt politeness, even though I am so angry I keep hitting the wrong keys on my laptop.
Here goes.
I have experienced the state that your brilliant but buggy games release in before. I am an unfortunate owner of the broken Oblivion GotY Ps3 game and the bugged Fallout 3 Goty Ps3 so my desire to play more Fallout was tempered with the knowledge that I should not buy it day1 (as I really wanted to) but to wait until the mass beta testing by your customers (sorry sarcasm and anger creeping in) (must resist) had resulted in a playable game.
With the release of your "COMPREHENSIVE" 1.02 patch I thought it would be safe to take the plunge and spend my hard earned money of which I do not have very much on Fallout New Vegas on my new slim PS3.
Got the fresh 1.02 patch, Installed the game, turned off the autosave, turned off the cinematic kill cam etc, did everything to help the game run smoothly.
In my 3 hours of initial game play spread over 2 days I have experienced:
Approximately TEN hard lock up crashes of my PS3 and the most amateurish glitches and bugs that I have ever experienced in a video game since the ZXSpectum days thats 30 years of gaming.
Scorpions buried upright in the ground
People sitting on invisible chairs
Powder gangers buried in solid rock with their heads sticking out
Scorpions ETC not attacking me
Characters stuck on bits of scenery
Save game lag
Lag is getting worse when entering doors.
All in the first 3 hours of a freshly patched 1.02 play through on a new slim.
At this stage I really dont want to know how glitched the actual quest are!
This must change. Most of the reviews , such as Edge's 6/10 reflect the appalling state that this ambitious game was released in.
You must stop releasing broken software, especially when it is broken to this degree. It is really ethically wrong. You must re balance your respect for your customers against the bank balances of your share holders. You must invest in comprehensive Beta testing by paid Beta testers before publishing.
i am also not very happy that you have members of your team or rather Obsidion working on money spinning DLC, when it should be all hands on deck to fix this mess.
I reluctantly will be attempting to ask my Game shop if I can exchange this game for something good that works basically tomorrow as I dont even know if you are ever going to get this game in a fit state or if Obsidion will be moving on to something else.
I knew of Obsidions dire reputation for bug ridden software, times this with Bethesdas unhappy record for releasing and/or publishing buggy games way too early to meet deadlines and the gamebryo engine and its just a recipe for all out disaster!
I cannot even imagine what state the pre patch original release was in, Feel so sorry for all those people who bought this game who dont even have the internet to get patches, that dont even seem to work in my case.
TL;DR
Thought it would be safe to buy and play Fallout New Vegas after news of the comprehensive patch, Sadly I could not have been more wrong. The software is still very very badly broken
